Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 369: Chapter 201: Secret Techniques Passed Only Within the Sect

Lawrence had just fastened his seatbelt and was quite surprised by Kenneth’s question, ”Kenneth? Why are you asking this?”

She had known Kenneth for over a decade, and Kenneth had never asked her anything about her dad.

Not only had he never asked, he also avoided the topic cautiously, as if he feared stepping on her ”landmine.”

Lawrence had noticed long ago but never thought it was a bad thing, which is why she was puzzled by Kenneth’s question now.

Kenneth was at a loss for words for a moment before he said curiously, ”We’ve known each other for so many years. You grew up without a dad. Haven’t you ever asked Auntie Gabrielle about it?”

Gabrielle had divorced and returned home with a three-year-old daughter and had been the subject of much gossip among the older ladies.

But she and Nick Zeller had protected Lawrence well, so she rarely faced that kind of behind-the-back sniping.

Later, when she grew up and started school, she was excellent in her studies, well-behaved, cute, and often took medical leave, everyone just got used to it, and nobody brought up that embarrassing topic anymore.

And Lawrence herself?

If others didn’t mention it, had she never thought about it herself?

Kenneth was very curious.

Lawrence seriously thought about it, then shook her head and, equally puzzled, said, ”It seems I really haven’t... From what I can remember, I don’t think I ever dwelled on that question.”

”Why do you think that is?” Kenneth’s gaze quickly scanned her face.

Ever since Lawrence lost weight, her face had become even more beautiful, with a rosy peach-colored complexion, and her eyes, darker than most, were like obsidian pools that could make anyone feel fluttery just from a glance...

Lawrence was oblivious to this and rested her chin on her hand, thinking for a while, then suddenly laughed, ”Oh my! I just realized!”

”I think I considered my Uncle Nick as my dad! So I never felt like anything was missing in my life!” She sat up straight, clasped her hands together, and laughed with pure delight, ”Uncle Nick is the best!”

Kenneth: ”...”

But thinking about the dynamic between Nick Zeller and Lawrence, he understood and nodded, smiling, ”Looks like it. I think your Uncle Nick also treated you like his own daughter.”

Because when he started dating Lawrence, Nick Zeller’s jealousy was like a jar of aged vinegar, souring the air for miles around.

At first, he was a bit uncomfortable, but now that he understood how Nick felt, it was probably similar to a father watching the little daughter he cherished being taken away by a ”wolf.”

Lawrence nodded vigorously and honestly said, ”Yeah, yeah! I feel the same way! — It’s fortunate that when my Uncle became an apprentice, the Grandmaster wouldn’t allow him to marry and have kids! Otherwise, I might have been really jealous!”

”Oh my! Should I actually be grateful to the Grandmaster?! Without him, I wouldn’t have had such a wonderful childhood and adolescence!”

She had followed Nick Zeller everywhere since she was little, and that bond surpassed most typical father-daughter relationships.

Kenneth laughed, ”That’s true. Now that the old Immortal lives with you, you should show him lots of filial respect.”

”Kenneth, I’m his little disciple, he likes me without needing my filial respect. But you, you need to work harder.” Lawrence glanced at him sideways, ”By the way, how are your cooking lessons coming along? Still only making fried rice? Though it’s really delicious!”

She licked her lips, feeling a bit hungry.

Kenneth laughed and said, ”I’m learning. The old Immortal said once my fried rice passes, he’ll teach me more.”

Actually, Kenneth didn’t like doing housework, including cooking.

At home, his sister cooked while chores were handled by his sister, mom, and dad together.

As the only boy in the family, Kenneth didn’t need to do chores, but he learned what he needed to.

During four years of college and graduate school, he took care of himself.

Now, being with Lawrence, he didn’t find cooking troublesome at all; instead, he found it thoroughly enjoyable.

”Go Kenneth!” Lawrence smiled and encouraged him, ”But you don’t have to learn everything. Kenneth, you’re destined for great things, and in the future, whatever you want to eat, you can just hire a good chef.”

After all, not everyone can come up with ten billion right off the bat!

Lawrence thought about it and felt a sense of pride as if she had earned that money herself.

You protect the world’s wealth, I protect you... awesome.

She smiled gleefully to herself.

Kenneth nodded, ”Thanks for your blessing, Little Heavenly Master. If fortune comes, we won’t forget each other.”
