Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 333: Chapter 183: You’d Be a Fool to Listen to Me

Lawrence Winters heard the good news, quickly went to the bathroom to wash up, and changed into the clothes Gabrielle Winters had brought for her.

After getting ready, Kenneth Osborne made sure she ate breakfast before heading off with the lunchbox for Joyce Shaw’s room.

Kenneth Osborne knew that Joyce Shaw’s room was next door, but he didn’t follow her, just gave Lawrence Winters the chance to have a private chat with Joyce Shaw.

Lawrence Winters wandered down the corridor for a while and found Joyce Shaw’s room.

Inside the room, besides her, there was an old grandma.

Just by looking at her, Lawrence Winters knew this must be Joyce’s grandma.

She quickly and politely said, ”Are you Grandma Shaw? I’m Joyce’s friend, Lawrence Winters.”

Grandma Shaw chatted with Joyce Shaw for a bit, gathering all the recent updates about her.

Seeing it’s Lawrence Winters, she smiled and said, ”You are Lawrence? Thank you for taking care of our little Joyce and saving her life. Otherwise, the Shaw Family would have lost its last descendant.”

Lawrence Winters knew she was referring to the child in Joyce Shaw’s belly and quickly said, ”Grandma Shaw, you’re too kind. I just lent a small hand. Joyce is truly amazing, and I really admire her.”

Saying this, Lawrence Winters placed the lunchbox her mom had prepared on the small table and said, ”Joyce, have you had breakfast? My mom made this nutritious breakfast herself, it’s really delicious!”

Her own breakfast, she could tell, had been made by the old Daoist, but Kenneth’s was not.

So Lawrence Winters surmised that Joyce Shaw’s breakfast was also made by her mom, not the old Daoist.

Joyce Shaw smiled and said, ”Thanks to both you and Lawrence’s mom, I’ve had breakfast but I’m hungry again. I can eat some more.”

Grandma Shaw smiled warmly and said, ”Go ahead and eat more. I’ll go check with the doctor if there’s anything to be mindful of. You two go ahead and chat.”

As Grandma Shaw walked out, Lawrence Winters, still a bit concerned, said, ”Would you like me to escort you somewhere?”

”No need, I’ll take care of the old lady myself.” A plain-looking young woman appeared out of nowhere and took over assisting Grandma Shaw.

Lawrence Winters was startled and quickly drew back her hand.

Grandma Shaw smiled and said, ”This is someone Mr. Johnson arranged to help me. She takes great care of me.”

Lawrence Winters understood that with Francis Johnson’s help, things would naturally be perfectly tended to, without any oversight.

She smiled and nodded, ”Thank you very much for taking care of Grandma Shaw.”

”It’s my job,” the girl said with a restrained smile and left with Grandma Shaw, looking just like any ordinary grandmother-granddaughter pair, disappearing into the crowd without standing out.

This is precisely what makes it so precious.

Lawrence Winters was moved and returned to the room, saying to Joyce Shaw, ”I heard you’re pregnant? But didn’t you say your period just ended?”

Joyce Shaw nodded, then shook her head and said, ”Indeed I had a period a few days ago, but it wasn’t much. The doctor said early pregnancy can have such occurrences.”

Lawrence Winters opened her eyes wide in surprise and said, ”Is that true?!”

”Didn’t you know? You even told me ’early pregnancy loss’ with such specialized terms. Do you not believe it yourself?” Joyce Shaw opened the lunchbox and took out small bowls containing purple rice, lotus seed and red date yam porridge, clear-braised sea cucumber, and a small bowl of ’soda steak’.

Looking at that steaming bowl of soda steak, Lawrence Winters swallowed and said, ”I have no experience, I just repeat what the books say.”

Saying this, her eyes were stuck on the soda steak, unable to shift away.

This was her favorite childhood dish.

The fresh, seventy-percent lean rib meat is minced, mixed with minced ginger to remove the fishy smell, then seasoned with fresh soy sauce, and an egg is added, stirring it all together.

Once mixed, water is added to cover the meat paste, and it’s steamed until cooked.

The resulting meat is called soda steak, as tender as tofu but with the texture of minced meat.

Once in the mouth, a roll of the tongue can swallow it all, leaving a rich aroma that lingers in the mouth for a long time.

Plus, it’s easy to digest, particularly suitable for patients and children.

This dish doesn’t require much skill to prepare, purely relying on the freshness of the ingredients and the strength of mixing, a truly homey, loving dish.

Though her mom complained about Joyce Shaw ”burdening” her, she prepared a painstakingly made soda steak, and Lawrence Winters knew her mom was a soft-hearted person.

Joyce Shaw had never tasted soda steak before and looked at it curiously.

Lawrence Winters quickly pointed to the soda steak and said, ”This is particularly tasty, nutritious, easily digestible, very nourishing, you should try it... It takes a lot of effort to make.”
