Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 328: Chapter 180: What Is Love in This World? (Second Update, for Your Beloved Xuan’er Alliance Hierarch+)

The madwoman shook her head, seeming like she wanted to let go.

Lawrence Winters darted forward, pressing down on her shoulders and arms.

”Madwoman! Calm down!” Lawrence suddenly didn’t want to use the coaxing tone he’d had earlier.

Joyce Shaw was no longer with us, she needed to face reality.

The madwoman had been crying all day, her tears had dried up, all she felt was tired, extremely tired, unbearably tired.

She looked down at the earth beneath her, the ten-story building, the people and objects on the ground looked like toys.

The wind blew gently across her face, giving her the illusion that as long as she let go, all her troubles would fly away.

What a temptation this was...

Lawrence held her tightly from behind, shouting in her ear, ”I know you love him! But is the meaning of your life just for a man?! He’s gone, so you won’t live?!”

”Have you forgotten your dad and mom?”

”Did they raise you to die or live for a man?!”

”I know Joyce treated you well, maybe so well that no one may ever replace him, but your life isn’t only for love and marriage!”

”How long were you with him? How many years did your parents raise you? - Madwoman, don’t let me look down on you!”

”You received the best education, you have your own skills, your own career! You’re a person too! - Shouldn’t you be a good person before being a woman?”

Lawrence felt frustrated, ”So I still don’t understand what’s so good about love!”

”Making someone want to live or die for another!”

The old Daoist was completely stunned listening to Lawrence.

Such words were expected from a seventy or eighty-year-old man, but for a barely twenty-year-old girl like Lawrence to think this way—what a mindset!

The old Daoist couldn’t help but correct her saying, ”That’s called asking what love in the world is, making life and death worth pledging! - What makes someone want to live or die for another! Listen to yourself, you’ve lost all charm in your words! Where’s your cultural depth?!”

Lawrence looked back at him, saying, ”I know that poem, ”Touching Fish” by Yuan Haowen.”

With that, she hummed the song softly.

”What is love in the world, making life and death worth pledging?

As south and north, paired birds fly, how oft does old wings face cold and heat.

Joy and sorrow, parting pain, amidst there’s enamored boy and girl.

The gentleman should speak: vast clouds afar, thousand hills twilight snow, whose shadow does one pursue?”

The distant melody floated in the night, originally tender and loving lyrics and tune, sung without emotion like a southern ballad turned into a ballad by a brave swordsman, alongside the ancient road beyond the pavilion.

Only farewells, no emotions.

The madwoman became enraged by Lawrence’s attitude, glaring back and saying, ”You’ve never loved anyone! So you don’t understand what love means?! Only when you’ve loved can you understand this feeling of life worse than death!”

”Even if I love like you, I wouldn’t belittle my own life.” Lawrence truly couldn’t understand the thought process of these women; is love really that good?

Even as she decided to be with Kenneth Osborne, she never thought about binding her life to him...

The old Daoist saw the madwoman almost enraged to death by Lawrence, afraid that she would accidentally fall and really drop off the building.

If she fell from his protégé’s hand, it would be on her shoulders.

They valued causality and merit in their line, this kind of sin was too great to create.

In a moment of panic, the old Daoist had a flash of insight and shouted, ”You can’t end your life! If you die, what about the child in your belly?!”

The madwoman froze.

Lawrence took the hint and also shouted, ”Yes, yes! Joyce is gone, but the child in your womb is his only bloodline. If you choose not to live, are you also taking away this child’s chance to live?!”

”Child? How do you know? I don’t even know...” muttered the madwoman, ”My period just ended not long ago...”

The old Daoist: ”!!!”

What the heck! He was just spouting nonsense and hit a real snag...

The slap of this realization, his face hurt!

But he didn’t understand medicine. If reading faces could tell pregnancy, then he wouldn’t be just a Great Heavenly Master but a living god!

Lawrence glanced sideways, knowing the old Daoist was full of nonsense.

But at this moment, the madwoman ”had to” be pregnant!

Lawrence gritted her teeth, saying, ”Really, he’s my master’s master, his fortune telling is the most accurate, more so than me and my uncle! If he says you’re pregnant, then you’re surely pregnant! — If not, let him pay you ten thousand dollars!”

The old Daoist immediately protested, ”Ten thousand is too much... a thousand... if you’re not pregnant, I’ll lose a thousand...”

Lawrence glared at him, then turned to continue consoling the madwoman, ”My master’s master never speaks false words, heaven’s thunder is witness.”

As soon as she finished speaking, a thunderclap really sounded in the night sky.

The old Daoist shivered all over, not daring to speak nonsense anymore, ducking aside murmuring the Tao Te Ching.

The madwoman looked up at the sky then back at Lawrence, hesitantly saying, ”But my period really just ended...”

Lawrence racked her brain, using all her knowledge of reproductive health, saying, ”That doesn’t prove there’s no pregnancy... I remember reading somewhere that in early pregnancy, some have slight bleeding, this is normal, it’s often mistaken for a period. Those who don’t take care might unknowingly lose the early pregnancy...”

”Impossible! Stop lying to me! I know you just don’t want me to die! But I really can’t live anymore!” The madwoman was completely unresponsive, struggling wildly, drawn by an impulse to rush downward.

Lawrence panicked, placing one hand on the balcony, flipping over to stand on the outer edge, standing alongside the madwoman, then gripping the balcony rail with one hand and the madwoman’s waist with the other, using all her strength to lift her, throwing her back inside the balcony.

Yet the madwoman still struggled wildly, lifting her long leg to kick Lawrence squarely in the chest.

The force of the kick was so strong that Lawrence’s fingers involuntarily loosened, and her whole body fell like a butterfly, kicked off the ten-story building!

”Lawrence!”

”My little protégé!”

The madwoman and the old Daoist simultaneously cried out.

The madwoman felt guilt beyond words, immediately attempting to leap down.

The old Daoist hurriedly grabbed her, yelling, ”You are truly mad! If you go die, then isn’t her sacrifice wasted?!”

...

At this time Kenneth Osborne arrived, coordinating with the firefighters and police, alongside Nick Zeller, to inflate the air cushion.

Just as the inflation finished, he heard people around suddenly exclaim, ”She jumped! She jumped!”

Kenneth suddenly felt a painful feeling in his chest, almost unable to breathe.

He looked up, just in time to see a slender woman falling from the sky, crashing fiercely into the cushion they just inflated!
