Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Wen Ru paused there, looking up at Huo Jinnan. Did he know everything already?

A blush spread across her entire face in an instant.

Huo Jinnan flicked away the cigarette ash. ”Those photos and videos, I’ve already dealt with them. They will never see the light of day again.”

Wen Ru lay there, silent.

She had never imagined that one day she would be stripped bare in front of her son-in-law, a feeling both embarrassing and humiliating!

After a long while, she finally spoke. ”The things you know, I hope Huanhuan never finds out about them.”

Huo Jinnan looked at Wen Ru with an intense gaze, ”Hmm.”

Wen Ru turned her head to the other side. ”My mother was killed by Huo Jinyun’s car, and my father’s death might not be unrelated to her—”

She paused, then continued, ”Perhaps, it’s also related to your father.”

Huo Jinnan was silent; he had only just guessed as much.

Wen Ru took a deep breath and turned back to look at Huo Jinnan. ”Your father is your father, you are you, Xiaoqin is Xiaoqin. I will not forgive him on account of you.”

Huo Jinnan’s voice was low, ”I understand.”

Wen Ru looked away. ”You wouldn’t understand.”

Huo Jinnan stubbed out his cigarette and stood there, turning to look out of the window. ”Mom, then let me tell you how my older brother died.”

Wen Ru looked at his back.

Huo Jinnan spoke slowly, ”Seven years ago, during a military drill, my brother’s fighter jet malfunctioned and he died!”

Wen Ru listened quietly.

Huo Jinnan paused for a while, ”When the jet crashed, a red mushroom cloud burst into the sky. It wasn’t just my brother, but also my brothers-in-arms. Eleven lives were lost in an instant.”

Wen Ru couldn’t imagine that scene, but she could feel the thick emotion in his voice, and that intense feeling!

She remembered Xiaoqin had mentioned that he had been in the military before retiring. She had never understood the blood of soldiers, but during that period, after watching a special report on an earthquake, she suddenly understood!

Huo Jinnan turned back, looking at Wen Ru, ”Later, the accident investigation results came out, determining that someone tampered with the plane after the safety inspection. It took me full two months to gather all the evidence, which I handed over to my father. He had promised to handle it according to military regulations—”

As he stopped, Wen Ru took a deep breath, ”What happened then?”

Huo Jinnan lit a cigarette and took a drag, his gaze dropping to the sparks at the end, his voice growing lower and lower as if he was sinking into deep sorrow. ”Then, all the evidence was destroyed, completely. By the time I found out, it had been dismissed as a sudden accident! I reported it to the higher-ups, but in the end, I was the one who received punishment.”

Wen Ru looked at Huo Jinnan, ”Who was it that tampered with the plane?”

”Gu Jizhou.”

Huo Jinnan squeezed out the three words from between his thin lips, his mind drifting to those comrades of bygone days.

Wen Ru watched him, unsure of how to offer comfort. ”It’s been a long time now.”

Huo Jinnan flicked away more ash, looked up, and met Wen Ru’s eyes, ”Yes, a long time, yet it all comes back so vividly every time I think of it.”

Wen Ru asked softly, ”Is that why you retired?”

Huo Jinnan nodded, ”What was the point of staying in such a place?”

Wen Ru suddenly understood some words Xiaoqin had once told her and laughed coldly inside. He really was Huo Jinyun’s son.

Huo Jinnan looked at Wen Ru, ”Later, she tried everything she could to bring Yunqing and me together, and after failing, that accident happened five years ago.”

Wen Ru realized what he meant. It was on that night that Xiaowei was born, ”And then the child was taken away, claiming that Huanhuan’s child was gone?”
