Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Qin Moting looked at Wen Ru with an indifferent voice, ”Sorry, nobody saw anything.”

Wen Ru couldn’t believe how cold he was as she broke down crying uncontrollably, ”What a coincidence, there was hardly any traffic nearby, yet my mother was hit by a car near your house...”

Qin Moting looked at the tear-streaked face of Wen Ru, somewhat at a loss, ”How is she now?”

Wen Ru wiped away her tears, looked at Qin Moting, and laughed derisively, ”Haven’t you read the newspapers? They say my mother committed suicide by jumping from a building due to the grief of my father’s death.”

Qin Moting furrowed his brows, so the commotion in the newspapers these past few days had been about her family?

”I sympathize with your ordeal, but the child in your belly really isn’t mine.”

Wen Ru stared at Qin Moting in disbelief, ”You... what did you say?”

”The child in your belly has nothing to do with me, please don’t say such things anymore.”

”...”

”Since it was a suicide by jumping off a building, your mother’s death also has nothing to do with my family.” Qin Moting looked at the heartbroken Wen Ru, wanting to say something else, but eventually, he did not speak, ”...”

Wen Ru stared at Qin Moting, ”You... can you say that again?”

”...”

Qin Moting clenched the umbrella in his hand and handed it to Wen Ru, ”It’s about to rain, you should head back early.”

Wen Ru pushed the umbrella away, ”I never intended to make you take responsibility!”

Watching her turn and run off, Qin Moting wanted to remind her to be careful of the child in her belly, and to chase after her to give her the umbrella. He hesitated, but in the end, he did not and turned to enter the building.

Back in his dormitory, he stood on the balcony, watching Wen Ru running desperately in the rain-soaked ground.

Usually, he loathed girls who didn’t respect themselves, yet somehow, he couldn’t bring himself to dislike the girl in front of him.

Who was she?

Why would she claim the child in her belly was his?

Lost in thought, a call from Huo Jinyun came in.

He glanced at the phone Huo Jinyun had given to him, having heard it was bought overseas through a connection.

After staring at it for a while, he answered the call, his voice neither warm nor cold, ”What’s up?”

——”Moting, did someone just say Wen Ru went looking for you?”

”Wen Ru?”

Qin Moting saw Wen Ru fall on the rainy ground, his brow tightening, so her name was Wen Ru!

——”Qin Moting, are you listening to me?”

When he heard Huo Jinyun raise her voice suddenly, Qin Moting came back to his senses, not liking the tone, he said, ”Don’t talk to me in that tone again.”

On the other end, Huo Jinyun’s voice softened, ”Moting, Wen Ru is the daughter of that brazen old woman who insisted her daughter’s child was yours at my place that day.”

”She has already passed away, don’t speak ill of the dead, Huo Jinyun, you are a lady of high breeding, not someone who—”

Qin Moting couldn’t find the right word in time and swallowed the rest of his sentence; he didn’t know why, but hearing her speak in that manner made him feel an inexplicable anger.

——”Qin Moting, what am I? What were you going to say I am?”

Hearing Huo Jinyun’s aggressive tone, Qin Moting hung up the phone, picked up his umbrella, and left the dorm.

Stepping out of the dormitory building, he quickened his pace to the spot where the girl had fallen, but she was no longer there. After standing for a few seconds, he stepped out of the school gate, and saw Wen Ru at the bus stop, just boarding the bus.

The distance was too far for him to catch up, so he walked back to the dormitory, using the umbrella in his hand.

...

Thinking back to that day, if he had chased after her, would today be different?

Wen Ru looked at Qin Moting, never uttering a sound. What she had been through—couldn’t he understand?
