Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Shen Mubai looked at the identification result and pushed his glasses up, ”Huo Bro, the results are out, but I haven’t notified the Qin Family yet.”

Hearing this, Huo Jinnan put out the cigarette between his fingers, his voice very low, ”So you’re saying, Fang Tong is indeed Qin Yan’s granddaughter?”

Shen Mubai took off his glasses and looked downward at the lenses, ”How did you guess, Huo Bro?”

”Observe words and expressions.”

Huo Jinnan spoke four words, took a drag of his cigarette, furrowed his eyebrows in thought for a moment, and glanced at Qin Shaojin, ”Do you think she could be your uncle’s daughter?”

Qin Shaojin sat there, pressing the bridge of his nose, never having imagined that Fang Tong was part of the Qin Family!

After pondering for a long time, he said, ”Who knows about these things, let my grandmother take them one by one to Shen Mubai for a paternity test. Anyway, it’s unlikely to be my fourth uncle.”

Huo Jinnan took a drag of his cigarette and put his phone to his ear, ”Mubai, do a paternity test for Wen Ru and Fang Tong.”

Shen Mubai cleaned his lenses and put them back on, ”Huo Bro, don’t we need to do it for Qin Moting?”

Huo Jinnan flicked the ash from his cigarette, not looking at Qin Shaojin on the side, ”That’s for the Qin Family to deal with; I just need to confirm she isn’t Wen Ru’s daughter.”

”...”

Qin Shaojin pressed the bridge of his nose, having another son-in-law like this was a headache for the Qin Family too!

Huo Jinnan hung up the phone and looked at Qin Shaojin, ”Your grandfather said—”

”Isn’t that our Qin Family’s affair?”

Qin Shaojin stood up to leave, the man’s cold voice reaching his ears.

”You don’t want the foster care fee anymore?”

”...”

Qin Shaojin turned back to look at Huo Jinnan.

Huo Jinnan sat there, his gaze deep and enigmatic, ”The leader has always had the ability to freeload.”

Qin Shaojin stood there, lit a cigarette, and bit it between his lips, ”Having kids is the Huo Family’s business, not the Qin Family’s business.”

Huo Jinnan gestured to Qin Shaojin to sit beside him, ”Your fourth uncle and your grandmother might not see it that way.”

”You win!”

Qin Shaojin sat down, regaining his composure, ”My grandfather said it was my fourth uncle who agreed to the arranged marriage.”

Huo Jinnan was silent.

Qin Shaojin licked his lips, ”My grandfather asked my fourth uncle about that day, twenty-three years ago, where he went and why he suddenly changed his mind.”

Huo Jinnan frowned, ”Twenty-three years ago, was it April 20th?”

Qin Shaojin pondered for a moment then looked at Huo Jinnan, ”That, my grandfather probably can’t remember, it’s not like it was a special day.”

Twenty-three years ago, the day of April 20th?

After a pause, he looked at Huo Jinnan, ”I’ll ask my fourth uncle, he might remember.”

Huo Jinnan flicked off the ash, ”I’ve asked him, he remembers, but doesn’t recall anything special happening.”

”It’s a bit inconceivable,” said Qin Shaojin, his clean, beautiful fingers stroking his jawline for a while, looking at Huo Jinnan, ”The only possibility I can think of is hypnosis.”

Hypnosis?

Huo Jinnan had actually thought of it too, but he had Huo Bei investigate, and they found nothing.

Qin Shaojin looked at Huo Jinnan, ”I know a famous criminal psychology expert abroad, and I’ve consulted him about this issue. He says that human memory is like a reel of tape, a continuous, unbroken record of imagery. It faithfully and without omission records everything, good or bad. But when recalling those traumatic memories of the past, one experiences pain and depression among other negative emotions. People do not wish to recall those bad times, do not want those bad memories to disturb them again, so they use hypnosis to erase those unpleasant memories.”

Huo Jinnan sat there, silent, his long, neat fingers twirling the cigarette between them.
