Armed Train in the Apocalypse

The dense surrounding steam provided an excellent condition for the spread of thunder and lightning. The usual two-meter light ball instantly expanded to five meters. With a thunderous crash, a special mushroom soared into the sky, collided with a giant umbrella mushroom nearby, and then bounced back.

A long, mournful gurgling sound was broken intermittently, like the sound effects in a video game.

As the shimmering mist dissipated, everyone could see what it was.

A mushroom over half a meter tall lay on the fungus carpet, its flesh-colored cap blown open with a white and tender stalk scorched and yellowed, looking quite dead.

Lin Jin muttered, ”A living mushroom?”

Su Huan finally showed a hint of a smile, ”Dead, bring it for soup.”

The mushroom on the fungus carpet suddenly sprang back, arched its body, and bounced off the ground, fleeing desperately into the depths of the mushroom forest. It appeared comical, but its hopping speed was extraordinarily fast, each jump covering three to four meters, and in places with a thick fungus carpet, it could even leap five or six meters.

Thunder flashed under Su Huan’s feet, and he was already at the mushroom’s landing point. In his right hand, Thunder Liquid gathered into a one-meter-long sword, placed flat under the mushroom.

If it landed, the tender mushroom would be half-cooked by the electric light.

”Guggle!”

In its pitch-black eyes was reflected a resolute mushroom, which adjusted its posture in mid-air, landing on the sword with its thickest cap, uttering a struggling cry, then without any pause, it bounced off into the distance.

Su Huan was not surprised at all; during the thunderstorm, he had discovered that while the mushroom took damage, the paralyzing effect of the lightning did not work on it.

”Conductor...”

Lin Jin’s raised gun barrel was pressed down by Su Huan’s single hand, revealing a glimmer of insight in his slightly closed eyes, ”This is a mushroom that can understand human speech.”

Lin Jin seemed thoughtful, ”Then I’ll go retrieve it.”

”You?”

”Xiaoba can’t perform well here, you guard the train.”

With a wicked smile, Su Huan watched the panicking mushroom, his long sword extending from one meter to five meters, then to over forty meters with a breath. With a casual swing, the nearby giant umbrella mushroom was cut in half, its severed section charred black.

The situation was urgent, and Lin Jin agreed.

With quick orders, Su Huan led Yu Yue and others in pursuit.

If it weren’t for the complexity of the Spore Zone and the inconvenience of communication, he wouldn’t have wanted even Yu Yue to accompany him.

Quickly, a bizarre scene unfolded in the mushroom forest—a long-haired man stripped to the waist, wielding a forty-meter-long thunder light sword, chased a mushroom with no way out. The mushroom’s fearful gurgling and Su Huan’s cackling echoed in the forest, sending chills down anyone’s spine.

Occasionally, one or two giant umbrella mushrooms collapsed with a crash.

Twenty or so soldiers wearing power armor hurried behind, even with mechanical assistance added to their armor, leaving them breathless.

Seeing Su Huan let the mushroom go time and again, Xiaoma couldn’t help but ask in the built-in communication, ”Why are we chasing a mushroom here instead of supporting Sister Miao?”

Lu Xiao slapped the back of his helmet and said harshly, ”You know nothing!”

Looking at the captain’s bloodshot eyes, Xiaoma felt unconvinced but kept quiet.

”The conductor surely knows!”

Lu Xiao insisted.

Su Huan, running at the forefront, occasionally emitted his killing intent to stimulate the mushroom ahead, his Thunder Blade swinging aimlessly, but there was no hint of laughter in his eyes, only extreme coldness.

The train was dragging a Cultivation Pod, uncertain when it would manage to crawl through the mushroom forest, yet he hadn’t even pinpointed Miao Qi’s exact location.

The more time he wasted, the higher Miao Qi’s chances of dying grew.

And the mushroom was fleeing northeast; at this moment, he could only gamble, betting that Miao Qi and the mutant beast’s mysterious disappearance were related to these intelligent mushrooms.

If Miao Qi didn’t hold on until he arrived, or if she hadn’t even made it to the mushroom forest and instead died in some unknown corner.

Then, it’s just bad luck for her.

...

Four kilometers northeast of the train.

Beneath a giant umbrella mushroom, a small battle was underway. On one side was a five-meter-long spine dog, with intimidating bone barbs on its back, and on the other were flesh-colored mushrooms ranging from half a meter to one meter two in size.

This was a mismatched battle; the spine dog’s casual bite could tear a mushroom into threads, and with a single press of its paw, four or five mushrooms would be crushed into mushroom patties.

But there were thousands of flesh-colored mushrooms. Everywhere the eye could see, each fungus carpet and giant umbrella mushroom were crowded with flesh-colored mushrooms. They emitted angry gurgling sounds, jumping from the highest point onto the spine dog below. Even though they would be pierced by the barbs on its back, they still advanced ceaselessly, sacrificing their lives.

The spine dog had lost a hind leg, its body covered in gunshot wounds and tiny shrapnel cuts from grenades. As more mushrooms were shredded, not only did the situation not improve, but it became increasingly dire.

Occasionally, it would scratch a giant umbrella mushroom or thrash around wildly like a drunken stray dog unable to find its way home, its struggle increasingly feeble.

On the other side, a group of mushrooms hopped forward uniformly, causing the fungus carpet to tremble.

Across the fungus carpet, a woman sat on a mushroom, her arm severed. She ignored the steadily advancing army of mushrooms, calmly tying her wounded arm with a tourniquet.

When she finished her tasks, the mushrooms were three meters in front of her. Though still energetically hopping and uttering ferocious gurgling, their advance covered less than a centimeter each time.
