Armed Train in the Apocalypse

A dozen soldiers lay on hospital beds, and several medical staff on the train quickly recorded various data with the researchers.

”... It should be a respiratory infection, there are spores left in the nasal cavity here.”

”No, there’s fungal growth on the skin surface, contact with spores will also cause infection.”

”The inhibitor is working, the growth rate of the spores has slowed down.”

”Take another blood test.”

”...”

Su Huan’s gaze was slightly dazed, ”So, does this mean they’re growing mushrooms inside their bodies?”

Director Xu sighed, ”The inhibitor can only temporarily suppress growth, but to eradicate it, we need to develop a corresponding drug. This is our mistake. We originally predicted dozens of possible emergencies in the Spore Zone, but didn’t expect the spores to spread this far, and without any warning surroundings.”

Su Huan raised his hand, interrupting Director Xu’s self-blame, walked to the window, and looked outside. A seemingly dead Scavenger suddenly twitched, then rapidly inflated like a balloon under the grave stares of everyone, his thin body became bloated instantly, and in the silence, the man suddenly sat up.

Looking at the face alone, he was a very thin man, with high cheekbones due to long-term malnutrition, lean and thin.

But the rapid swelling of his mouth and body made his whole person appear particularly twisted, the withered skin cracked with small openings, but there was no blood, showing an eerie gray desolation.

The man’s eyelids began to tremble frantically, and the next moment, two clusters of white hyphae shot out, reached aimlessly around, and then merged with the hyphae extending from his mouth and nose, enveloping his entire face.

”Don’t let it grow, otherwise the infection will spread again!”

Director Xu said solemnly.

”I need some hyphae to develop a corresponding drug.”

Wan Xing, who had been busy at the bedside for half a day, suddenly spoke up.

Su Huan squinted, ”How much do you need?”

”Just a small bunch.”

”Give me a container.”

Soon, someone brought over what was needed. Su Huan took the container, exuding intense heat, sealed the entire train layer by layer with Thunder Liquid after opening the door, then tore off some hyphae from the corpse’s face, stuffed it into the container, and suppressed its activity with electricity before returning to the train.

”Burn the rest.”

Two mechanical arms immediately extended out, spraying flames at the corpse on the ground. The hyphae immediately twisted under the flames, retracting back, but the fuel on the train had been added many times by Yu Jing, Vice President Deng and others.

The man’s belly was soon burned through, a large batch of hyphae gushed out trying to escape, but stood no chance of evading the nimble mechanical arms, screaming silently in agony in the flames, struggling painfully before turning to ash.

”How long until the drug is ready?”

Su Huan handed the container to Wan Xing.

The latter pushed up the glasses on his nose, pupils reflecting various virtual data, furrowing his brow tightly, ”I can’t give you any guarantees.”

Su Huan glanced at the woman on the bed, and shadows fell over his drooping eyelids.

”As soon as possible.”

”Hmm.”

Wan Xing took the collected hyphae and the blood of Yu Yue and others and returned.

Su Huan stood aside, closing his eyes. If the spores were accidentally blown over by the wind, then he, on the top of the train, should also have been infected.

At the moment he used ”Inner Vision”, he realized his guess was correct.

His lungs indeed had a large number of spores, only they were advancing slowly through an energy circuit, but stubbornly absorbing energy despite the resistance from Pan Energy. If left unchecked, within three to five days, these hyphae would take root and sprout in his lungs.

”Heh heh.”

Su Huan’s lips curved slightly, as if he thought of something amusing.

Opening his eyes, faint thunder light flickered in his pitch-black pupils.

Opposite him, Lin Xia paused in his busy work, and timidly asked, ”Do you need my help?”

Su Huan walked over to his workbench, glanced at the surgical instruments on top, and finally focused on the green sterilization cloth, ”Lift it up.”

Lin Xia was a bit confused, but still followed Su Huan’s words and raised the sterilization cloth, which hung down, more than two meters long.

Su Huan was somewhat picky, ”Raise it higher.”

The strange scene caught the attention of most, while Director Xu and the others discussed ways to eliminate the spores, they also kept an eye on Su Huan’s situation.

Only when Lin Xia opened the entire cloth, beyond arm’s width, did Su Huan nod and said faintly, ”Hold it steady.”

He looked at his palm, then removed his coat, pointed at his chest, searched for the gaps between ribs, eyed with a smile of madness and determination, ”Think you can hide inside and not get killed?”

Then amidst a multitude of puzzled glances, covered in electric light, he stabbed directly into his chest!

With a squelch, a stream of scarlet, scalding blood splattered on the sterilization cloth.

A three-foot length of electrical light shot through his strong chest, penetrating through!

Lin Xia, who was holding the sterilization cloth, eyelids twitched violently, nearly dropping it altogether.

He had seen plenty of gore over the past year, more bloody scenes than he could count, but such a person as the train conductor, so ruthless to open up himself, was absolutely unprecedented.

The sharp pain twisted Su Huan’s handsome face slightly, but the electric glow in his hand remained as steady as iron casting!

The stubborn spores in his lungs were exterminated en masse by the terrifying current.

His skin had extremely high resistance to electricity, though his internal organs were just a bit stronger than an ordinary Tier Two Evolver.

Under the effect of high temperature, his internal organs became scorched and charred, smoke along with blood spurted out, the whole carriage suddenly filled with a rich coppery, roasted meat aroma.
