Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Upon hearing Liu Zi’s achievements, everyone in the room laughed together.

As the only sergeant singled out by He Jie to be kicked back to the recruit camp, Liu Zi’s reputation had spread throughout the Corps.

In the history of the Corps, he was the only one demoted to the bottom.

But jokes aside, no one thought Liu Zi was incompetent.

Being a fellow soldier of the mongoose batch, Liu Zi was nearly scrubbed out because of awakening the ”Gatherer” ability, but he stubbornly refused to join the service crew. Seeing that he kept up with training in all aspects, He Jie didn’t say anything. Later, Liu Zi awakened a few skills, and his abilities became peculiarly strange, often using mutant plants to concoct small pills, causing his face to turn green and then purple.

There were several episodes of him up and down, collapsing and fainting due to exhaustion.

When He Jie and Mountain Goat brought some people over to visit, they were knocked out by the faint toxins in the air as soon as they entered.

It scared the soldiers so much that they almost went crazy, rushing in to rescue.

In the end, seven people were knocked out, before one genius recalled the need for gas masks.

Fortunately, the medicine was potent but the effect dissipated quickly.

The people were dragged out and recovered after a while.

Liu Zi thoroughly solidified his title as the King of Poison, eventually becoming a qualified medical soldier, though no one dared to consume his concoctions.

However, the effectiveness of Liu Zi’s poison in killing enemies was undeniable.

Initially, the Corps had fewer officers than soldiers, built upon real bloody battles and solid merits. Liu Zi’s promotion to sergeant at a young age was uncontested by everyone.

Throughout the Corps, except for a few, no one dared claim they could withstand his poison.

”So it’s Liu Zi, Bomb, Xiao Hong, and Big Goose, a pure combat squad. What’s the last one filling in? Mechanics or melee?”

Lu Xiao asked.

The standard squad in the Armed Corps must cover various functions, with pure ”melee squads” or ”controller squads” appearing only under special circumstances.

Just then, the knocking sound echoed, as an instructor walked in, saying, ”Captain Lu, someone’s sent food to your wife.”

Saying so, he moved a box of cans in and placed it on the table.

The group gathered around.

”Oh wow!”

”Nice stuff, Lu!”

”Heh heh heh...”

They glanced at Lu Xiao’s dark expression, then at Miao Qi sitting in the chair, each gloating.

Miao Qi wore gray-green pants below, quite normal.

But her upper body only had a tube top.

The remaining vast expanse of snow-white skin was exposed, her fiery figure swaying in the morning almost caused a riot among single soldiers in the camp.

Catching the canned bayberry tossed by teammates, Lu Xiao frowned, ”Who delivered it, inside the vehicle or outside?”

”From the service crew, last name Guo.”

The instructor replied casually.

”Is it him?”

Lu Xiao happened to meet Miao Qi’s gaze, as she opened a can and cheerfully said, ”It has to be our Captain Lu to have such face.”

Lu Xiao rolled his eyes, ”You start eating without knowing what the event was?”

Miao Qi shrugged her smooth shoulders, ”Anyway, they’re not asking me for anything, Captain Lu can handle this little thing, right?”

Looking at the woman’s mischievous blinking, Lu Xiao was instantly speechless.

Reaching the entrance, he indeed saw Old Guo’s figure lingering at the door.

Though still skinny, his complexion was rosy, lacking the bitter look he once had.

Seeing Lu Xiao, Old Guo hurried up.

”Captain Lu...”

”If there’s something to say, say it, busy inside, recall the train regulations before you speak.”

Lu Xiao warned mildly.

Even though Old Guo often sent cans to Miao Qi, every time the value returned exceeded those few cans, so naturally he didn’t feel guilty.

Old Guo skillfully handed in a cigarette, pleasingly smiling, ”My eldest girl is being assessed today too, wanted to ask Captain Lu to say something, get her in a better squad...”

Lu Xiao was surprised, ”Aren’t your two kids underage?”

Old Guo sighed, ”The eldest is fourteen this year, a ’Defender,’ decent talent, gritted my teeth and let her join this year’s assessment.”

Lu Xiao glanced at him, scolding, ”Generous, aren’t you? There’s a mortality rate, I can’t ensure she survives the full course; if lacking ability, won’t she be eliminated to City Guard Army?”

Old Guo’s lips moved, managing a smile, ”That’s why you’re here...”

Recalling the little girl frequently bringing food along with her brother, Lu Xiao felt compassionate, looking at this old rogue further incensed him, couldn’t help but kick him, ”You old dog!”

Old Guo wasn’t angry, took a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, shoved it into Lu Xiao’s hand.

Lu Xiao impatiently waved his hand, ”Alright, go back.”

Old Guo smiled accompaniedly, retreated several steps, bowing at every step.

...

Back in the lounge, Lu Xiao found the little girl’s records on the computer.

Name: Guo Suxu

Gender: Female

Age: 14

Category: ”Defender”

Skills: ”Combat Factor” ”Swordsmanship Mastery”

Career Path Analysis: Suitable for melee combat profession, ”Bone Blade Hunter” ”Vanguard” ”Sword Warrior.”

Quickly having a second skill, truly as Old Guo said, this girl’s talent was good.

”What did Old Guo say?”

Miao Qi lounged in the chair, savoring the sweet bayberries and asked.

”The fifth person was found.”

Lu Xiao answered non-directly.

Miao Qi was taken aback, ”Who?”

”Guo Suxu.”

”Hmm?”

Lu Xiao didn’t answer her, grabbed the cigarettes on the table, ”I’m heading out for a bit.”

Finished, carrying the five-member group’s files to the sixth-floor conference room.

If not disciplining recruits, He Jie usually appeared there, overseeing the entire recruit camp.

Reaching the entrance, Lu Xiao surprisingly quieted his footsteps.

Opening the door, indeed found the train conductor seated centrally on the sofa, legs crossed, a strange little girl standing behind, with Dean Zhou and He Jie sitting beside.

Su Huan smiled slyly, ”You seem to have some good news to share.”

Lu Xiao raised the files in hand, ”Scores are out, but grouping eight thousand will likely last till month’s end, I only brought several drafts.”

”Just come, bringing stuff, seriously...”

He Jie naturally accepted the cigarettes from Lu Xiao’s other hand.

Despite the train conductor’s presence, didn’t rush to light it.

Su Huan skimmed through the files without comment on the five-member group, placed them aside, casually discussed future allocation plans for the recruits.

And specific arrangements for sweeping through Zhijin one month later.

Time swirled, over five hours passed, when Su Huan emerged from the recruit camp, it was nearly dawn.

Thin night light revealed hints of clear brightness, cold wind laden with sand whizzing through buildings.

Dark clusters of cups crowded the corners of buildings, covering over a dozen children underneath, the youngest already nestled in the center fast asleep, leaving only a few older ones, resistively holding their eyelids, staring at the recruit camp’s entrance sentry.

A lamp hung there, with a sentinel awake all night.

Suddenly, he spotted black hair akin to gemstones.

It was the terrifying man who took Han sister away!

The child widened eyes looking back, indeed saw the timid Su Han.

Quickly waking nearby companions, whispered, ”Han sister is out!”

Children stirred awake instantly, one after another followed, even the youngest with lingering sleepiness remained silent in complaint, pursed lips, staggered forward.

Su Huan let them follow for several blocks, suddenly halted, raised the hand, feeling gravel striking upon.

”Weren’t you planning to establish a school?”

Beside him, Zhou Qing, who stayed vigil overnight, nearly forgot his initial purpose, delayed hearing this sentence.

A night of prepared speech tangled on his lips, melted into a simple ”Yes.”

”Then go do it.”

Su Huan proceeded forward without a backward glance.
