Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 459: Chapter 293: Kangaroo

The bungalow is enclosed by four houses, similar to a courtyard.

And that Pan Energy feedback is in the last house, with no signs of damage to the doors and windows. It’s unclear how that thing got in.

’Could it open the door itself?’

Su Huan speculated, letting his mind wander.

Lao San, with an injured arm, stubbornly walked ahead of the train conductor to eliminate potential hazards in advance.

A few soldiers from the combat team carefully kicked the door open, only to find the injured Mutant Beast in the middle. It turned its head to look at them, shuffled slightly, but remained unresponsive.

At this moment, Lao San noticed the huge wound on its chest and sneered, ”So it’s injured and can’t move. Don’t shoot yet, watch me capture it alive!”

...

Outside, Su Huan suddenly turned his head to look at the two tin cans following him.

Yu Jing and Tan Yunxi.

They claimed that there were difficulties in the exoskeleton design and wanted to conduct combat tests. Yet, they hadn’t taken any actions while following him all this way.

”Aren’t you going?”

The tin can on the left opened, revealing Tan Yunxi’s delicate face. The young girl’s face showed distress. ”Conductor, there’s no opportunity to take action. Weren’t there supposed to be zombies everywhere outside, with swarms numbering in the thousands? Why is it so quiet...”

Shu Wei tightened his coat and explained, ”The Black Kite regularly cleans danger zones within its sphere of influence, especially in rural towns and counties, to prevent large zombie tides from converging with those in the city.”

Su Huan glanced at the clean, wind-swept skeletons in the corner. Small convoys and settlements don’t have the power to clear urban ruins, so they can only focus on these small villages and hamlets; it’s these countless towns that sustain ninety percent of survivors.

And this is what is called the ”Wilderness.”

”So, your newly developed exoskeleton is only targeted at large-scale zombie tides?”

Su Huan frowned, scrutinizing the two.

Previously, whether it was the [Scavenger] or [Engineer], they were attached outside the body, like a skeleton attached to muscles, with a clear structure.

The most complex was the set worn by Black Kite Special Service personnel, but even then, only some defensive modules were installed at key positions, and the mechanical structure on the back was visible.

But these two in front were entirely encased in matte black metal, with no apparent structure from the outside.

”To be precise, it’s called Power Armor.”

Yu Jing’s cold voice came from within the Power Armor.

Su Huan was about to ask what the difference was when he heard a dull thud from behind.

Lao San flew out of the house like a rolling gourd, covered in dust.

Without looking at them, he punched the ground hard and rushed back in.

Su Huan was a bit taken aback but, hearing no gunshots from inside the house, suppressed his curiosity and waited for the two to explain.

Tan Yunxi took over the explanation, saying, ”We discussed for a long time and concluded that Evolvers at the current stage don’t lack agility. Whether it’s the [Scavenger] or [Engineer], they don’t significantly enhance Evolvers, mainly increasing load and weapon attachment points.”

”But that’s just scratching the surface, so I redesigned the exoskeleton based on current combat needs.”

Speaking of her expertise, the girl’s eyes sparkled, ”After all, not everyone is Master Eight. Holding your ground on the battlefield is crucial, so I designed this set of [Guardian] Power Armor with defense as the primary need. All weapon systems are unified and integrated into the armor.”

Saying this, she raised her hand, displaying the two gun barrels extending from the Power Armor’s arm to Su Huan.

Yu Jing watched Tan Yunxi’s impetuous action with a frown, reaching out to lower her arm by a few inches.

Su Huan, however, didn’t feel anything and even moved closer to examine the gun barrels.

Their color differed from the Power Armor, looking somewhat familiar, like they were directly removed from a Steel Curtain assault rifle.

Tan Yunxi then resolved his confusion, ”The arms are equipped with two conventional assault rifles, firing 7.62mm cartridges. Compared to traditional grip, I just need to raise my hand to fire, and the ammunition chamber supply is more stable than magazines, without the hassle of reloading.”

”How many exactly?”

”Two standard capacities on each side.”

Su Huan gave a slight nod.

According to the train standard, a capacity means 240 rounds. Four capacities equate to 960 rounds, enough for individual soldiers.

War since the apocalypse is constrained by the environment, rarely prolonged, mainly quick decisive battles. For soldiers with awakened hot weapon skills, effective results often take only one or two magazines.

During last time’s fierce battle with Black Kite, even with the excitement, on average, everyone used less than two magazines, around sixty rounds of ammunition.

”Is there more?”

Tan Yunxi thought for a moment and then punched the adjacent wall.

Soil and stones flew, and a bowl-sized hole appeared in the brick wall.

Tan Yunxi turned proudly, ”This is the weapon system I designed. Quality over quantity. Even if you run out of bullets, as long as there’s energy, you can punch your way out of a zombie horde.”

Su Huan squinted his eyes; this power is roughly comparable to a non-”Guardian” Tier One Evolver’s physique strength.

Weaker than a Tier One Evolution Beast, but as a conventional means, it’s sufficient.

What surprised him more was that Tan Yunxi dared to boldly launch her design without being constrained by previous results.

He wondered how Yu Jing felt about it.

Su Huan looked at Yu Jing’s eyes behind the iron mask, seeing the same excitement as Tan Yunxi, and suddenly realized he’d been overthinking.
