Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 457: Chapter 292: Pingqiao Village

Ever since learning that the Pan-Asian Alliance was a marginal entity, Su Huan lost interest in understanding it.

He simply tossed the dangerous human experiments to Director Xu.

If there was any intelligence, Shu Wei would inform him.

The next day was yet another repetitive cycle.

The train conductor went from lab to lab, listening to the experiment progress from the main persons in charge, occasionally making a round at the Armed Corps.

Due to the handling of the Old Wu incident, the soldiers clearly showed him more respect, even more than He Jie, who they were with day in and day out.

The corps had just undergone reforms and was still in a phase of adjustment and adaptation.

Some of the standout new recruits were added to the sergeant squad, while the rest underwent regular training under Lao Er.

Physical training, tactical movements, weapon training, evolutionary information...

At this stage, hot weapons remain the main means of warfare, especially since evolutionary abilities haven’t developed yet, so firearm training cannot stop. On this basis, some artillery, drone, and other equipment operation training has been added.

Cold weapon training isn’t extensive, only ’defenders’ who choose this path receive targeted specialized training.

The sergeant squad primarily trains on ability coordination.

Although they were initially a bit disorderly, with an old soldier like He Jie around, Su Huan wasn’t worried about their combat capabilities.

The officer squad’s training requires goals, as ordinary training doesn’t provide an environment for them to realize their abilities.

To test their limits, the enemy needs to be at least at Tier Two.

Unfortunately, the ruins around Xiaohe City were too thoroughly cleaned by Black Kite, and they hadn’t encountered a Tier Two creature in two days.

”Rumble...”

The armored train halted in the ruins of a village.

To avoid the excessively violent storm.

Although the fully Tier One armored train could withstand the damage, the extremely bad environment further reduced the train’s travel speed, increasing energy consumption.

In the engine compartment, the staff quietly discussed, collating various pieces of information.

Ultimately, the data was reported by Glasses to the train conductor sitting at the highest command post.

”Impacted by the storm, the train’s route has deviated to some extent. Currently stationed in Pingqiao Village, Fengxi County, northeast of Xiaohe City, the linear distance to our target, Zhijin City, is 210 kilometers, or 230 kilometers via the national road. Within a ten-kilometer range, there are three groups of Pan Energy fluctuations, all Tier One, no Tier Two Pan Energy.”

”The train body is undamaged, sealed and stable; the power system is normal, and the braking system is normal.”

”The air filtration system needs consumables replacement, a drone is damaged, a mechanical arm is damaged, and there are six track faults on the train body, the logistics group has already been notified for replacements.”

Su Huan looked at the line map on the screen, puzzled, ”Only covered a hundred kilometers in several days?”

Glasses replied awkwardly, ”The Cultivation Pod’s traveling speed is too slow and mainly relies on the train to drag it. In the stormy environment, tree canopy drag increased, further reducing the speed...”

”If recharged, can it go faster?”

Seeing the cold glance from the train conductor, Glasses decisively shut his mouth.

The armored train’s current stability couldn’t be maintained without two key components: the vast water resources stored in the Flood Zone and the train conductor’s nearly perpetual energy supply.

But rumor has it that the train conductor hates being treated as a power bank.

”Pan Energy fluctuations detected near the train.” Shu Wei pointed at the screen at just the right moment.

Su Huan glanced at it. A small red dot was darting rapidly near the front of the train, the energy level was about Tier One, ”Let Lao San handle it.”

Shu Wei swiped on the tablet and added, ”There’s a batch of new equipment that needs testing, Yu Jing’s exoskeleton hit a bottleneck and also requires combat testing.”

”Why hasn’t the combat exoskeleton been developed yet?”

”The ones obtained from the logistics center are all civilian exoskeletons. A combat exoskeleton needs to be made from scratch, which has many challenges. It was only after Tan Yunxi joined that the weapon system design was solved...”

”Progress is a bit slow.”

Su Huan frowned.

Shu Wei lowered her eyes, ”There are too few talents related to mechanics on the train, only a few at the factory.”

”I recall she was quite adept at installing vehicles; it seems much more complex than exoskeletons.”

”Locomotives are her hobby.”

Su Huan pinched his chin, studying the map with narrowed eyes, ”Where do you think we can capture a batch of wild researchers?”

Shu Wei calmly replied, ”If you don’t want to end up in a futile struggle against Black Kite or other major forces, I suggest you abandon that dangerous thought.”

Su Huan retracted his gaze that had fallen within Black Kite’s sphere of influence.

”Alright, let’s test the weapons first.”

...

”Swoosh—”

The train door opened.

The wind and sand rushed crazily into the train but were blocked by an invisible barrier. In just a short time, a layer of sand several centimeters thick accumulated on the ground.

Su Huan led Lao San and others out.

The light sand blown onto the train was like needles on the skin. Although Su Huan’s thick skin could completely immunize against the harm brought by wind and sand, it was still somewhat uncomfortable, so he quickly set up an energy barrier to isolate it after testing the intensity for a short time.

This time, the combat test group included five people, featuring Qu Hang’s squad from the Armed Corps, plus Yu Jing and Tan Yunxi in brand-new exoskeletons.

Including Su Huan, Shu Wei, Lao San, Bai Lu, and Giraffe, it was a total of seventeen people.

After getting off, Qu Hang manipulated a gust of wind to isolate everyone within it.

Within a ten-meter radius, the wind and sand instantly quieted down; even the sand on their clothes fell to the ground, while beyond the ten meters, the yellow sand still filled the sky.

It was as if a transparent glass had appeared, separating them from the outside world.
