Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Su Huan frowned, ”Damn it, how long will this burn take.”

He had enough energy, but he couldn’t release it from a distance either.

So he looked at Xiaoba again.

The latter shook his head, ”I tried just now. The metal content inside these organisms is very scarce, but the outer casing’s strength is very high. It’s hard to cut through with metal chopping.”

Su Huan didn’t waste any more words and let everyone in the train try one by one.

Only one who could manipulate low temperatures did a decent job, but the waiting time for freezing was still too long. After evaluating, Lin Jin was still the most effective.

The Armed Corps also had quite a few good abilities, but unfortunately, none were professionals, so naturally, they couldn’t compare to Tier One ”Firestarter” Lin Jin.

Looking at the zombies rubbing against the train window, the atmosphere inside the carriage became somewhat heavy for a moment.

Su Huan asked in a deep voice, ”How is each part of the carriage holding up? Is there any damage to the train body?”

Xiaozhao quickly glanced through the reports and replied swiftly, ”The exterior of the train body is undamaged. There are just a lot of deep-sea worms, but their squeezing power is not significant, at least not for the specially reinforced carriage.”

In the crowd, Vice President Deng’s face immediately showed a hint of pride.

This framework was designed by his own hands.

Don’t even mention a mere twenty meters of water depth, it could withstand a hundred meters!

”What about food supplies?”

Xiaozhao shook her head, ”That part I don’t know.”

Standing nearby with documents in hand, Shu Wei calmly chimed in.

”We have over five hundred tons of pure grain rice and flour, enough for everyone on the train to eat for three years. Including side dishes, if we eat freely, it should last between five to six years.”

”And oxygen and water?”

”We use a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen generator for oxygen production, primarily consuming energy to produce oxygen.”

”Counting you, the train conductor, our energy is almost unlimited, and theoretically, so is oxygen. The only limitation is the lifespan of the molecular sieve, which will reach saturation after about 3 to 5 years due to nitrogen adsorption. But we have spares, and theoretically, it can exceed twenty years. We might starve to death, but we won’t die from lack of oxygen. The purifier can even purify acid rain, so the floods outside aren’t a problem.”

Everyone, including Su Huan, showed surprise on their faces.

Because of everyone present, Shu Wei had joined the group most recently, and many hadn’t even remembered her name.

It was normal to know the food reserve data.

But to be so familiar with even such obscure equipment data, whether known beforehand or memorized after boarding...

It was somewhat terrifying.

Aware of the admiration in everyone’s gaze, a faint smile tugged at the corners of Shu Wei’s mouth. She certainly wasn’t just doing overtime these days.

Utilizing her position as the train conductor’s secretary, she had access to all the train data from all conductors and train leaders.

Even with her insights, she had to admit that the armed train was an excellent shelter for small forces.

Apart from being unable to develop much heavy industry and advanced laboratories, the train was nearly perfect.

The crucial point was that it could move. As long as a slightly safer place was found in the later stages, the train could establish a home using its onboard equipment as the mainstay.

Even if a disaster like the fall of the Steel Council occurred, the core force of the group would be protected to the greatest extent.

Considering Su Huan’s background of escaping from a high-temperature zone, the various choices and decisions couldn’t simply be described as perfect. It should be said that it’s as if divinely guided!

Shu Wei considered herself an elite, but even if she took Su Huan’s place, she couldn’t have done better.

She might not have even survived the Steel Council ordeal.

As for Black Kite and those old stubborns holding power within the Azure Data, they weren’t even worthy of carrying Su Huan’s shoes!

Shu Wei had a premonition. As long as she held onto Su Huan’s tail and kept up with him, she could surpass Mr. Shu, and even Black Kite in the future!

So during this period, she memorized all the data.

All train-related data!

”What’s the lifeblood of an official? It’s data! All the data you can access in your position!”

This was something a friend’s father, a high-ranking organizational member, once told her.

Shu Wei agreed wholeheartedly.

Even if you do nothing usually, when a leader inquires, one is blank and confused, the other knows every detail about their jurisdiction, even down to specifics, what would the leader think?

What the leader thinks, Su Huan didn’t know, but he was somewhat astonished.

He might not know detailed numbers like the food data, but generally, he had an idea.

But he didn’t expect Shu Wei to be so thorough.

This secretary choice was indeed excellent.

Su Huan mused aloud, ”So, the deep-sea worms have only trapped us but don’t have the means to breach the carriage and don’t affect our normal life?”

Shu Wei’s eyes flickered slightly, ”Theoretically, yes. Just remember to supplement some Vitamin D3 and increase activities to relieve everyone’s stress, and that should be enough.”

Everyone was momentarily stunned at these words, and after thinking carefully, it did seem to be the case.

If an ordinary ship were dragged underwater, panic would be warranted.

But for them, other than affecting their schedule, everyone was accustomed to living in the carriages. Plus, with a whole new spacious train body, the initial thrill hadn’t worn off, so they didn’t feel oppressed.

It seemed like they didn’t have any reason to escape desperately...

He Jie touched his crew cut, ”So, we’re not running anymore?”

Su Huan looked around; the lighting was bright, the air conditioning worked steadily, the oxygen generator was kicking in, continuously feeding oxygen into the carriage.

The onboard system was conducting electronic checks on various equipment, row upon row of green lights glowing steadily...

The tense atmosphere that had been present from the train being dragged underwater was bizarrely dissolved.

Su Huan suddenly found the scene a bit comical.

The corners of his mouth involuntarily curled up, leading to a few inexplicable chuckles.

Waving his hand as he began to move toward the rear carriage, he said, ”Alright, alright, since we can’t run, let’s enjoy staying underwater for a couple of days. Dismissed!”

This left the bewildered crowd looking at each other blankly.

Shu Wei glanced at the others and silently followed along.

Bai Lu and the giraffe-like figures followed, looking like two gate guardians.

…

Just as Su Huan was about to return to his room, he patted his forehead, ”Oh, right, how’s the Crown Pear tree?”

Shu Wei immediately responded, ”The planting issue has been resolved. Branches with pears were all cut off for planting, only the trunk is tied on the deck. The experts have applied some protective measures on the tree body, so it should be fine for now.”

Su Huan curiously asked, ”How much stuff is planted in the carriage farm?”

”There are 26 plant species, 13 of which are usable, and 4 animal species, namely one each of chicken, duck, bird, and fish.”

”Old Huang even raised birds?”

”The first batch of edible plants has matured in bulk. If there are no surprises, today should be the train market’s first trial opening day.”

Su Huan grinned, showing a bit of interest in his eyes, ”Get them to lift the alert quickly. I’d like to see what our market looks like.”

”Understood.”

…

In the armed hall, five hundred soldiers were fully armed, standing at attention.

The atmosphere was tense to the point of nearly solidifying.

It wasn’t until they heard Qu Hang and others on the broadcast did they finally sigh in relief.

Though they lived by this profession, nobody liked war.

Rejoicing at the smell of battle is for sociopaths or ambitious schemers.

But not everyone thought this way; in the front row, the mongoose’s disappointment upon hearing the dismissal was visibly evident.

”What, you’d like to have a big fight with those monsters underwater?”

A clear female voice came from the front.

The mongoose looked at the fiery and curvaceous silhouette ahead, quickly catching up, glancing around to confirm He Jie hadn’t come, before sighing, ”Ever since my promotion, I haven’t had a single operation. Who knows how long it’ll take before my rank surpasses that old bastard!”

Miao Qi gave her a sidelong glance, ”Don’t drag me down with you if you’re seeking death. If He Jie hears you, neither of us will get away.”

The mongoose, unwilling, pulled out the pistol from her waist, did a familiar self-check, then put it back.

”Sister Qi, let’s go train later.”

”No.”

”Why not?”

The mongoose’s slender pupils slightly enlarged, looking cat-like and a bit cute.

Miao Qi glanced at Lu Xiao, who was ahead talking with Xiaoma, and said casually, ”I heard the farm in the carriage has its first batch of food out. I wonder if it’s open today. I want to buy some vegetables.”

”Buying vegetables? Why not just eat in the cafeteria?”

”To give the man something different to taste.”

The mongoose frowned, ”Is pleasing a man more important than your own evolution?”

Miao Qi shrugged helplessly, smiling faintly, ”I can’t help it, I can’t live without a man.”

”Sister Qi, I think…”
