Armed Train in the Apocalypse

The various sensor lights in the train car lit up one after another, and the gentle lighting illuminated the compartment.

The man’s body lay sprawled on the floor, a bewildered expression still on his face.

Yu Jing ejected the magazine, replaced it with a new bullet, following the traditional design of the Donghuang Iron Eagle series pistols, with its standard 20-round double-row double-feed magazine.

A series of dull thuds sounded from outside, causing the train to tremble slightly.

Given the current armor thickness and soundproofing design of the train, if such clear impact sounds could be heard inside, it must be a cataclysmic storm outside.

Ignoring the varied expressions of the six people behind her, Yu Jing connected to the communication request from the front command station of the train.

”This is the train control station. We observed a situation with Crew Chief Yu through surveillance. The combat team has been notified and will arrive imminently...”

”What’s the flow rate outside, and how much damage have the mutant beasts caused to the train?”

Yu Jing interrupted, asking directly.

”The water flow speed exceeds 8 m/s, reaching dam-break flood levels. Only two second-tier mutant beasts in the herd tested the train’s defenses; they were later drawn away without causing damage.”

Yu Jing calmly replied, ”Once the water stabilizes, perform positioning detection. Transition the train into ship mode, surface to the waterline, and prepare to assist the personnel on the mountain.”

”Understood. I will transmit the positioning detection information and related intelligence to your terminal.”

A series of heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor, followed by Lao San’s voice eerily echoing He Jie’s tone more and more.

”Which bastard wants to rebel? I’m going to twist his head off and shove it up—”

Lao San pushed open the manual partition door, glancing at the corpse on the floor, his voice abruptly cut off, heart leaping to his throat.

His eyes frantically scanned the mechanical compartment until he saw Yu Jing safe and sound inside. He finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Even the dignified Crew Chief felt his legs turn slightly weak.

”Boss, one’s dead!”

”No shit, drag this cursed bastard out for me and chop him up to feed the dogs!”

Lao San said angrily, nearly beside himself.

The soldiers from the combat team behind him began dragging the corpse away and skillfully cleaned up the bloodstains on the floor.

All elite soldiers, with proficiency two words could describe: highly professional.

”There’s another one.” Yu Jing pointed to another man still haunted by fear on his face, ”He claims to be from the Tongzhou Association.”

Lao San lifted his gaze to the man, eyes turning red with fury.

The Trainmaster had entrusted the combat team protecting the train to their brothers’ command, yet as soon as they left, someone incited trouble.

Fortunately, Yu Jing had taken care of that person. If anything had happened to Yu Jing today, Lao San wouldn’t know how to face Su Huan!

This thought sent a cold sweat down his back, but fury quickly followed, causing the muscles on his face to twitch slightly, ”Leave it to me to handle.”

The man looked at Lao San’s fierce expression and turned to plead with Yu Jing, ”Crew Chief, I only joined to get a bite to eat. I’ve never done anything against the train. Please, don’t kill me...”

Yu Jing holstered her pistol, ”We’ll wait for the Trainmaster to return before deciding what to do with him. I’m going to change my clothes, and later you take some people to assist me.”

Hearing Yu Jing’s words, Lao San calmed down, taking a deep breath, ”Ready anytime on my end.”

Grateful, the man heaved a deep sigh of relief, emotionally dropping to his knees, ”Thank you, Crew Chief, thank you...”

Yu Jing sighed softly in her heart and ascended to the second floor.

Since the train compartments have been widened considerably, the second floor housed a small lounge. It was more like a mechanical workbench that could be raised or lowered, covered with a kind of failed elastic material that hinted at scale-like patterns.

Yu Jing opened the side cabinet, revealing a few pieces of segmented black high-elastic fiber tactical suits.

The iterations were evident from their sequence.

Standing before the mirror, her fingertips slid over the tactical suit’s zipper, tightening it upwards.

The tactical suit clung like a second skin, outlining sharp shoulder and back lines, while the waist cinched like a bow, appearing more formidable under the tactical vest’s constraint.

The only slight discord was the flexible armor embedded at the joints, making the appearance less streamlined.

Securing the thigh holster, she turned and headed outside, with the Engineer-I model poised and ready.

Five minutes later, the submerged armed train suddenly jolted.

The mechanical arms, fixed into the ground from the car’s periphery, extracted themselves from the mud like centipede tentacles retracting onto the train.

The surface of the compartment roiled with murky floodwaters.

From Wangjiang Peak’s vantage point, one could see a colossal shadow surfacing beneath the slightly calmer waters, its massive size undimmed by the murky currents.

A whistle sounded, deep as a whale’s song, as the armed train broke the surface, resting stably atop the water. Thanks to the balanced design by numerous experts, the armed train swayed only slightly, with no twisting at the joints.

The torrential rain continued, and the flood had submerged the tourist facilities at the foot of Wangjiang Peak.

Only the spire of the toll station stubbornly jutted above the water.

The propellers churned as the engine pushed the armed train over the words ”Wangjiang Peak Hiking Entrance,” heading towards Wangjiang Peak.

Fully geared, Yu Jing stood atop the train with Lao San, Lao Er, and the combat team soldiers.

Wiping away rainwater, Yu Jing scrutinized the data on the exoskeleton display screen and furrowed her brow.

She turned to remind Lao San behind her, ”The water is over twelve meters deep at the foot of the mountain, surpassing thirty meters in low-lying areas. Don’t you dare fall in.”
