Chapter 1589: Chapter 549: Mad Wings

”Mr. Speaker, everyone, I would like you to first consider a question: if the Divine’s descent, which occurred in the Imperial City Tamriel, happened again in our Federation, would we be able to withstand it?”

”This time, the Empire defeated a group of Evil Gods at the cost of the fall of Crown Carlos II.” Vice Speaker Bertrand did not directly express agreement or disagreement, but instead posed a question.

”This...” Many congress members showed thoughtful expressions.

At this time, a middle-aged man wearing a golden monocle spoke in a deep voice:

”Vice Speaker, that is why we need to speed up the exploration of the Floating City Ruins. I believe, with the ancient Floating City from legend that can resist the True Gods, we naturally have the capability to counter them.”

”But this does not mean we need to cooperate with the Empire.” The man seemed to have noticed Bertrand’s intentions and emphasized.

Bertrand glanced at the man. This congressman was named Bode Blake, and his family originated from exiled nobles of the Empire, so he naturally wished for the Dragan Empire’s destruction.

The descendants, derived forces, or spokespersons of such exiled nobles also occupy a considerable portion of seats in the current Federation Congress. This is also why there has been persistent friction and tension between the Federation and the Empire during this energy tide’s low point.

The golden monocle man continued with an indignant expression:

”Moreover, look at the statement in the report: ’hopes the congress will agree to invite Lord Rein of the Empire to join the Floating City exploration, with appropriate compensation...’ Does this uphold the Federation’s interests?”

”Of course, I personally respect and admire these few strong individuals of the Federation, but it’s quite clear they don’t really understand politics.”

Bertrand seemed to have anticipated this situation long ago. He calmly drank a sip of red tea and said, ”If it were a regular ruin, Congressman Bode might be correct. But perhaps you don’t know that it has now been confirmed that the black mist controlling ancient goblin corpses within the Floating City is Fiend Demon!”

”What! Fiend Demon?” An elderly congressman couldn’t help but widen his eyes.

Some congress members who didn’t quite understand what Fiend Demon represented began checking the other document pressed under the report.

”Simply put, if we rely solely on the Federation’s force to explore the Floating City Ruins, the cost could be considerable, and there is even a possibility of failure.”

”Furthermore, time is not on our side, or rather, humanity’s side. I believe it’s time for joint cooperation.” Bertrand said in a deep voice.

For a moment, the conference room was dead silent.

”Vice Speaker, if Fiend Demon is indeed so terrifying and formidable, then even with the Dragan Empire, we might not necessarily succeed in the exploration. Since the Vice Speaker insists, I can agree to limited cooperation.”

Councilman Bode, wearing a golden monocle, still disagreed with comprehensive cooperation and interjected.

”I agree with limited cooperation, and as for how much we can gain from within the Floating City, it will depend on the strength of the team the Empire sends this time.”

”I agree.”

”I concur.”

After a moment of contemplation, Federation Speaker Lawson Powell knocked his pipe and concluded:

”Then it’s decided, limited cooperation.”

Sitting beside him, the alluring woman Trena glanced at these colleagues, feeling rather speechless.

’Alas, if the plan is truly carried out this way, and the Empire sends a team led by Lord Rein, the Federation might not even get a taste of the soup. Truly a bunch who don’t grasp the situation.’

But this was the general trend within the Federation, and even her speech couldn’t change anything.

The Vice Speaker Bertrand’s earlier speech was actually quite thorough, but it was difficult to alter anything.

After all, the hatred and bias some held towards the Empire wasn’t something caused by one generation, but numerous generations...

...

Imperial City Tamriel.

Menia and Rein stood at the entrance of the Black Dragon Azurax’s lair, continuing their conversation without going in.

”The Black Dragon’s temper is the worst among the Five-Colored Dragons. Compared to Azurax, Metheus’s temper is even worse. No one has chosen it for almost two hundred years.” Menia said with a hint of bitter smile.

”Two hundred years?” Rein said with surprise.

Though the dragon is at the Extremely Old Dragon Level, one would expect some dragon knights to be insufficiently powerful, but a situation with no one choosing it for two hundred years was unheard of.

”Is there something wrong with it?”

”Yes, Metheus is nicknamed ’Mad Wings’ among dragons. Apparently, during its adolescent dragon years, it was bellicose and combative. Later, it suffered severe head trauma in a certain battle, and once it gets into fierce combat, it would go berserk.”

”Its previous Dragon Knight met their end due to its rampaging during a fight despite defeating the Flame Demon. The Dragon Knight succumbed to their injuries afterward.”

”I see.” Rein nodded.

The relationship between dragons and knights is akin to that between humans and battle steeds.

There must be coordination between knights and their steeds, but if one rides a dragon that disobeys or disregards the commands of the Dragon Knight, it’s naturally perilous in battle.

However, for Rein, this wasn’t an issue.

One reason is his confident prowess; another is the power derived from his system’s Battle Pet Contract.

”Menia, in terms of combat prowess, is this ’Mad Wing’ Metheus higher?”
