Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 3163: Chapter 3164: Light Calamity

The third day, yet another ten hours have passed.

Angel knocked on the ceiling completely as well, but still found nothing.

This made Angel wonder if Shock’s diary might not be in the cellar after all, but outside? Or perhaps the cellar environment they were currently in was very special?

Angel did not believe that he or Luigi had a ”magnet for accidents” trait, where trouble follows them wherever they go.

Yet, reality seemed to mock him.

If it wasn’t the accident magnet trait, why can others easily find the diary while they find it difficult?

Moreover, according to normal circumstances, even if Shock’s diary is not placed in an obvious spot, it would still be placed somewhere significant, as if the diary’s existence is meant for those who enter to see it.

But this cellar, neither has an obvious spot nor a significant place, where could the diary be hidden?

As Angel pondered this, Luigi once again performed the scene of ”the priest playing the Confession Song amidst the flames,” solemn yet sacred, majestic yet desolate, passionate yet hopeless... All suppressed emotions were fully released at this moment.

Especially, this Confession Song played in the desperate situation within the confines of this cellar, continually resonating, like the priest bidding farewell to the sinful world.

Despite loving life, loyal to the divine, he ultimately transformed into a black sheep demon, turning to ashes in the flames.

Absurd and helpless.

Even if Angel did not know the background story of ”Black Sheep Confession Song,” upon hearing this, he couldn’t help but be affected; moreover, he already understood the story behind it, making it even more impactful.

However, this impact did not last long.

It wasn’t that Luigi’s performance was bad, but after completing the final Chapter, Luigi started playing it from the beginning again; the emotions at the beginning of the song and those at the end starkly contrast, and transitioning suddenly from deep despair to sunny elegance naturally reduces immersion.

Though slightly regrettable, not being able to enjoy the perfect lingering echo, Angel quickly became at ease, preparing to continue pondering the diary’s whereabouts.

But, just as Angel turned his head, his gaze suddenly halted.

He suddenly thought of something.

—Actually, there is a very special spot in this cellar he hasn’t searched.

The reason it’s called ”special” is because this spot is at the very center of the cellar. In such a spacious yet empty cellar, people’s gaze would naturally gravitate toward the center.

Therefore, the truly most special and conspicuous place in this cellar is its center.

And coincidentally, Angel hasn’t searched the center of the cellar.

The reason is... Luigi is sitting in the center of the cellar.

Previously, Luigi had entered the cellar ahead of Angel, and after entering, he directly walked to the center and sat down.

Clearly taking it as his seat.

In fact, this spot is indeed quite good, considering the attacking mirror ghosts come mostly from the surrounding walls, their appearance being a little distance from Luigi’s position, providing a buffer sufficient for Angel’s Mist Illusion to take effect.

However, precisely because this spot is so fitting, and Luigi sat here first, Angel hadn’t intruded upon it.

Now it seems, if the cellar truly contains hidden space, perhaps it lies beneath Luigi?

Although Angel identified a conjecture, at present, Luigi is still engaged in practice, so Angel hesitated to interrupt him, choosing instead to set this matter aside for after Luigi’s return to consciousness.

And so, three hours passed.

Luigi continued repeatedly practicing ”Black Sheep Confession Song”, his progress delightful, according to Angel’s estimation, no need to wait until the end of the third day, Luigi would successfully assimilate the score entirely.

Although Luigi might finish early, the third wave of mirror ghosts wouldn’t drag till the very last moment.

As the cellar’s light source flickered continuously, the third wave of mirror ghosts finally arrived.

Similar to Angel’s earlier predictions, this time the attacking mirror ghosts were indeed substantial in number and did not end in one go.

This instance of mirror ghosts seemed more like a ”monster siege,” coming in several waves.

The first wave of mirror ghosts were familiar magic wand ghosts and sheet ghosts, emerging from ceilings and walls, roughly a dozen in number.

Though in greater quantity, the effect of the Illusionary Realm ensured they caused little disturbance, quietly smoothing over them.

One noteworthy case was two sheet ghosts, one white and one black, who entered too close together, not even the Mist could prevent their ”fusion”.

Angel’s prior speculation was correct, sheet ghosts would indeed fuse, and upon fusion, black and white sheet ghosts did not become a zebra-patterned sheet ghost but instead metamorphosed as a species, transforming into a bald demon with pure white skin and dark eye pupils.

The name ”Bald Demon” was coined by Angel.

Primarily because it really was bald, with two demonic horn-like protrusions atop its head and pure white flesh wings on its back, resembling a demon.

Energy fluctuations of sheet ghosts only matched early second-level Apprentice standards; post-fusion, however, Bald Demon’s energy surged to peak third-level Apprentice, potentially achieving Official Wizard attack status if possessing powerful offensive techniques.

Yet, Angel didn’t get to witness any abilities, as the Bald Demon was quickly imprisoned by the Mist before any deployment.

This wave of mirror ghosts were numerous but relatively weak, swiftly resolved. But Angel did not relax, as the second wave was already upon them.

This instance held fewer mirror ghosts, only one.

Yet her abilities proved remarkably potent.

She was also the only mirror ghost Angel had heard of so far.

—Mirror-Holding Banshee.

A banshee donning a black, flowing gown, with dimmed eyes, blood-red lips, hair withered like weeds. Her actions were graceful akin to a courtly lady, holding an elegant round mirror at her chest.

Upon emergence, without any action, the round mirror spontaneously absorbed surrounding Illusion Nodes.

From afar, a whirlwind formed by dense Mist was being drawn into the mirror.

Such is the Mirror-Holding Banshee’s ability: Crisis Mirror Space.

Any energy and matter she deems dangerous are absorbed into the Crisis Mirror Space.

Nonetheless, absorbing into Crisis Mirror Space doesn’t mean the danger is resolved, merely temporarily transferred until eventual eruption.

At present, if Mirror-Holding Banshee absorbs Mist Illusionary Realm, even when the Mist Illusionary Realm shatters later, it would remain pointless.

Ultimately, they won’t linger long enough to witness the eruption.

The mirror-holding banshee’s ability is quite restrictive on the illusionary realm at the moment. However, fortunately, the level of this mirror-holding banshee is rather low... Here, the level does not refer to strength; in terms of strength alone, the mirror-holding banshee is a top-level apprentice.

According to Angel, the level of a mirror-holding banshee is inferred by the mirror she holds.

The lowest-level banshee holds a circular mirror; next comes the triangular mirror, the square mirror... The more edges the mirror has, the higher the level of the mirror-holding banshee.

With a higher level, the dangerous mirror space’s ability also becomes stronger.

The one appearing now is the lowest level banshee, holding a circular mirror. The dangerous mirror space within this kind of circular mirror is not very large, perhaps just about the size of a room.

Once you’ve filled the circular mirror’s internal space, the so-called dangerous mirror space ability becomes useless.

Using mist to fill the internal space is virtually impossible, as the entire cellar’s mist is absorbed into the circular mirror, and its internal space is more than sufficient.

While mist may fall short, that doesn’t mean illusions do too.

If the illusion node is slightly altered to produce illusion creations with ”real” traits, similar to the house in the heart space, although made by illusions, all the furniture and items inside possess ”materiality.”

Using these real-touch illusion creations to fill the space inside the circular mirror becomes much easier.

Angel directly extended his finger, pointing remotely at the mist surrounding the mirror-holding banshee.

The mist did not change at the moment, but as soon as the mist was absorbed into the circular mirror, the illusion node swiftly constructed a solid boulder, rapidly expanding, in an instant occupying the circular mirror’s internal space entirely.

The mirror-holding banshee initially did not notice, and it wasn’t until her chest mirror could no longer absorb surrounding mist that she lengthened her neck in full puzzlement, sticking her head into the circular mirror.

And then, there was no then.

She couldn’t destroy the illusion boulder within the circular mirror, and with a bit of time before the dangerous mirror space would burst, she had no other means of dealing with the surrounding mist.

Thus, like the sheet ghost and the bald demon, she was completely enveloped and lost by the mist.

The second wave of mirror ghosts was resolved without danger.

However, it wasn’t over yet. Just as Angel thought the mirror ghost assault was over, a new mirror ghost slipped in, and this one was more special than the previous two waves.

Upon its appearance, it transformed into light.

True, existent light.

Even perceiving through the mist illusion, Angel did not detect any anomalies. It was as if an extra light source appeared amidst the mist.

And this light source was continuously extending, intertwining with mist as it spread.

Neither could overcome the other, like competitors on different tracks.

The light source spread rapidly alongside particle-like mist, extending over ten meters in an instant.

At this rate, it would reach Luigi’s surroundings in seconds...

Angel didn’t care why mist couldn’t restrict the light source; his thoughts flowed swiftly, pondering countermeasures.

Soon, Angel found a solution.

Since mist couldn’t restrict the spreading light, return it in kind.

Angel directly manipulated the illusionary realm, placing the previous mirror-holding banshee at the light source, reducing the previously laid illusion boulder in the circular mirror space, leaving enough room, and continued to maneuver the mirror-holding banshee’s path, intending to use the mirror to absorb the light.

His plan was successful.

The light that was continuously spreading was indeed absorbed by the mirror-holding banshee.

However, the idea was great but now pointless because... Luigi woke up.

Luigi stood up from the ground with a satisfied smile, waved vigorously at Angel: ”I told you I could finish ahead, see, I indeed finished ahead. There’re still nearly ten hours before the third day ends.”

Luigi stepped forward, muttering about the results of his practice, exuding an attitude of ”the world is under my feet,” ”all is well.”

He also praised ”Black Sheep Confession Song” to the skies, so confident that he seemed convinced he could win a piece when seeing Uriel again.

”Since you’re awake, you handle this mirror ghost,” Angel interrupted Luigi’s boasting, pointing at the mirror ghost that turned into light in the mist.

Luigi followed Angel’s finger: ”Whoa, a mirror-holding banshee and light disaster? These two mirror ghosts are strong; they are the hardest to deal with among previous waves, yet they appeared together.”

Luigi looked at Angel, shaking his head in lament: ”Your luck is really bad!”

Angel: ”...it’s unclear whose luck is bad yet. And, you enjoyed my protection for three days, and now you’re making light-hearted remarks?”

Angel: ”Hurry and take over.”

Luigi retreated a few steps: ”Why take over? Let’s just leave.”

Angel: ”I have some matters to attend to; now it’s your turn to protect me.”

Luigi: ”???”

Luigi had no idea what matters Angel was referring to, but he took the initiative to step up: ”Light disaster is a peculiar existence among mirror ghosts; they can assimilate most energy and matter, transforming into an infinite light source. Where they pass, nothing survives, no soil remains. Hence, they’re named ’light disaster,’ the calamity of light.”

”However, it’s obvious they can’t assimilate your illusionary power... This indicates your illusionary power level far exceeds their assimilation upper limit.”

”To deal with them, it’s best to enclose them in opposite forces, such as dark power.”

”Actually, using the mirror-holding banshee’s mirror against the light disaster is also a good method. So, why not let them continue this stalemate?”

Angel sneered: ”If you can control my illusionary realm, then continue with this method. If not, find your own way to deal with it.”

Clearly, Luigi couldn’t control the illusionary realm and had to abandon this strategy.

Nonetheless, Luigi showed no emotional fluctuation facing the light disaster, indicating he likely had other means to tackle it.

Sure enough, Luigi lightly plucked the strings, constructing several dark mirrored rectangular stones in mid-air with bouncing notes.

Given the light disaster couldn’t move at that moment, it provided Luigi a prime opportunity. He directly dropped the dark mirrored rectangular stones from mid-air, forming a black cage, securely trapping the light disaster.

Confirming the light disaster wouldn’t escape, Luigi turned to Angel: ”Now there shouldn’t be any issues... Right, do you need help with what you plan to do?”

Angel: ”Previously needed help, but not anymore.”

Luigi: ”???” What does that mean?
