Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 2236: Chapter 2237: Dumatin

Looking from the back, the person appeared very lean and tall. At this moment, standing by the western window, he looked at the stack of thick documents in his hand under the falling sunlight.

Perhaps because he heard the sound of the balcony door being pushed open, the person turned around.

After pausing for two seconds, he gently curled his lips: ”So it’s the Transcendental Wizard.”

As he spoke, he closed the documents and walked towards Angel, stopping three steps away, taking off his pure white gloves and reaching out his hand towards Angel.

A handshake.

The traditional etiquette of the Winsbills nobility, compared to the more conventional cheek kiss, is a more restrained and slightly aloof handshake favored by the Winsbills nobility.

Angel looked at the newcomer, a young man wearing gold-rimmed glasses. A clear voice, elegant movements, traditional etiquette, and a perfectly tailored suit filled with dark gold decorations. Every detail carried a sense of disciplined abstinence.

He looked just like an aristocratic scholar.

But anyone who had heard his name would regard him with a degree of dread, his name even more feared than Sanders in the Barbarian Cave. This was evident from Frode’s expression; Frode, who was originally working at his desk, frequently glanced at the young man with obvious fear in his eyes, as if afraid that in the moment he lowered his head, this refined young man would transform into a monster and devour him whole.

Angel pondered for half a second, then also reached out his hand, lightly shaking it with the other, calling his name: ”Bayer Wizard.”

The refined young man was Dumatin Bayer, nicknamed ”Microcosm,” and among the lower-level apprentices of the Barbarian Cave, he was known as the Craniotomy Butcher. An eccentric wizard passionate about biological research and craniotomy.

”Calling me Bayer Wizard feels so distant. You can just call me Dumatin.” Dumatin squinted and smiled, his tone familiar compared to Angel’s distant tone, speaking with a natural familiarity.

Angel naturally wasn’t familiar with Dumatin, but once, when he was still an apprentice, he obtained the condemned Baruba from Dumatin. Dumatin, seeing Angel as an ”Alchemist,” exchanged him for a favor, handing Baruba over to Angel.

Although the situation at the time was quite complex, the final result was that Angel owed Dumatin a favor.

So, facing Dumatin’s familiarity at this moment, Angel didn’t pull a long face, following Dumatin’s tone: ”Similarly, calling me Transcendental Wizard also feels a bit distant, you can call me Angel.”

”That suits me perfectly.” Dumatin smiled and nodded, then released the handshake with Angel.

Dumatin: ”When I arrived earlier, I didn’t see you on the outside terrace. So, the last place you left was the Sky Tower’s terrace?”

Angel: ”I just set the entry point here.”

Realization flashed in Dumatin’s eyes: ”I see, as the creator of this realm, you can set the entry position to any location in the Wilderness of Dreams?”

Angel nodded: ”Yes.”

A gleam flashed in Dumatin’s eyes: ”I wonder if there’s a way for us to acquire this ability?”

Angel could discern that Dumatin’s true interest wasn’t in acquiring the positioning ability but rather probing the source of such an ability.

This concerned the issue of authority, which Angel could discuss, but now was not the time to reveal it.

So, in response to Dumatin’s question, Angel lightly said: ”It’s not possible for now.”

Only for now? Dumatin suppressed the question that almost reached his throat; he could see Angel didn’t want to delve deeply into this near-rule-like ability, so he decided to hold back for now.

”If that’s the case, then so be it.” Dumatin seemed entirely unconcerned, composed and open.

Angel was quite surprised by Dumatin’s nonchalance, considering his profile of Dumatin’s character, he wasn’t someone who would easily give up.

Angel’s character profile wasn’t incorrect. This restraint didn’t align with Dumatin’s character, but compared to adhering to his own character, what Dumatin wanted more now was to take advantage of the favor owed by Angel and establish a closer relationship with him.

Whether it was Angel’s identity as a member of the Research and Development Institute or his foresight into the prospects of the Wilderness of Dreams, they were reasons worth establishing at least a non-hostile, friendly relationship with Angel.

Under this premise, reigning in his own character to avoid offending Angel was the primary task.

”Did Angel come here to find Frode?” After receiving affirmation, Dumatin smiled and said: ”Alright then, I won’t disturb you. I’ll go to the next room.”

Dumatin nodded towards Angel, then looked at Frode, waving the documents in his hand: ”I’ll just borrow these materials for now, I’ll return them later.”

Frode, facing Dumatin, the Great Demon King, dared not refuse, nodding repeatedly: ”No problem, no problem.”

Dumatin turned and left, and before leaving, he said to Angel: ”If Angel has time, perhaps you could come next door to find me later, we could have a discussion.”

As for what to discuss, Dumatin didn’t specify, but the exchange between wizards naturally wouldn’t be limited to a single topic. Moreover, since Dumatin defined it as an exchange, he certainly intended to offer some knowledge in return, rather than just gleaning information.

”If I have time.” Angel responded in the same polite manner.

Dumatin smiled, then left the room.

After Dumatin left, Frode, who had been trembling at his desk, finally breathed a long sigh of relief.

”Is it that exaggerated?” Angel said with amusement.

”Of course it is!” Frode nodded vigorously like pounding garlic, speaking with lingering fear: ”You don’t know, when he found out that I’m a soul in reality, the look in his eyes was terrifying, as if he wanted to dissect me on the spot.”

”That’s exactly why, while Lord Dumatin was here for nearly five hours, I didn’t dare to relax for even a minute. I was supposed to be writing documents, and now I’ve only written one page... even that page was haphazardly done, mainly to appear normal in front of him. Otherwise, if he saw my fear, he might actually come over and perform a live dissection on me.”

After hearing Frode’s account, Angel couldn’t help but chuckle. ”Seeing your fear, it will make a move,” is a situation typically found only among beasts or undead. For Frode, an undead, to say such words, it was a bizarre inversion.

However, Frode wasn’t joking; his voice still trembled, showing that his fear of Dumatin was genuine.

”By the way, what did Dumatin come here to do?” Before asking this question, Angel’s thoughts sank into the Ability Tree for a moment. Using the authority of the Gatekeeper, he checked when Dumatin had entered the Wilderness of Dreams.

Dumatin definitely came in through that batch of log-in devices Angel had previously handed over to Rhein. Since Angel had not set up a ”stranger entry alert” prior to logging in those devices, he needed to look into the Ability Tree to confirm Dumatin’s entry time.

The final answer was one day ago.

This answer made Angel feel quite subtle because the log-in point set for that batch of devices handed to Rhein was in the New City, primarily to make it more convenient for the apprentices to construct the new city. And it would take nearly half a day by airship from the New City to Originheart City.

This means that Dumatin basically didn’t stay in the New City after entering the Wilderness of Dreams but came directly and urgently to Originheart City.

Combining this with what Frode mentioned earlier, that Dumatin had been here for more than five hours, it was evident that after arriving in Originheart City, Dumatin headed straight to the Sky Tower.

This very purposeful route piqued Angel’s interest in Dumatin’s intentions.

Frode didn’t hide anything and narrated what had happened after Dumatin’s arrival.

Essentially, Dumatin was here to review the documents he wrote about the Wilderness of Dreams. From this, it is evident that although Dumatin can be quite ruthless in some matters, he is indeed a research-oriented talent. Unlike other wizards, who are curious about the Wilderness of Dreams, Dumatin’s first thought was research rather than experience.

In this regard, Dumatin is more likely than many wizards to embark on the path of True Knowledge.

No wonder when Sumishe was advancing to True Knowledge, he asked Sanders who else in the Barbarian Cave might become the next True Knowledge Wizard. Sanders’ answer at that time was Dumatin. Back then, Angel didn’t quite understand, but now he can relate a bit.

”Speaking of which, there’s one thing I don’t quite understand.” Frode said, ”Since many documents involve the Principal Body of the Nightmare Domain, I didn’t take them out. But Master Dumatin didn’t ask about them either, probably thinking I wouldn’t know such secretive knowledge. Logically speaking, apart from documents on the Principal Body of the Nightmare Domain, there aren’t many left, so Master Dumatin should have quickly finished reading them. What puzzles me is that he’s reading them slowly, and later, the documents he’s reading aren’t related to the Wilderness of Dreams’ rules. Instead, he’s looking at...”

Frode paused for a moment and then said, ”He’s looking at the personal records of Originheart City’s residents.”

These records were initially collected by Frode and mostly describe physical conditions and changes before and after entering the Wilderness of Dreams. At the time, they were used experimentally to help Angel determine whether Jon would suffer any mental injury upon entering the Wilderness of Dreams.

Even after Jon entered the Wilderness of Dreams, Frode didn’t stop this experiment. After all, the Wilderness of Dreams currently seems problem-free for new residents, but no one can ensure that anomalies won’t occur in the future. Preparing information in advance helps in dealing with crises at any moment.

”Interested in the information on Originheart City’s residents?” This answer surprised Angel quite a bit. Could it be that Dumatin plans to study the bodies of the Dream Realm’s indigenous people? Angel thought about it and felt it was a considerable possibility. Even though Dumatin is not Carabit, his enthusiasm for biological research is no less than that of the Carabits. Although the residents of Originheart City are ordinary people, their bodies underwent substantial changes after entering the Wilderness of Dreams. This transformation is likely to attract a research enthusiast like Dumatin.

Angel voiced his speculation.

Frode agreed after listening: ”No wonder when he heard in reality that I’m a soul, his eyes instantly changed, probably thinking that a soul forming a new body in the Wilderness of Dreams would be even more worthy of study.”

The more he thought about it, the more frightened Frode became: ”No way, I have to notify Adar and Shanni later. If Master Dumatin learns they are also souls, they might be abducted and have their brains opened.”

However, Adar and Shanni were not in the Wilderness of Dreams at the moment, so although Frode was frightened, he did not immediately make a big move.

Frode: ”Master, what should we do now? Shall we notify the Sin Hunting Group to send more demon hunters to protect the residents of Originheart City?”

Angel didn’t see much necessity in Frode’s suggestion.

He had also considered researching the bodies of the Dream Realm’s residents before, but his knowledge in similar research was not profound. Furthermore, more crucial abilities needed exploration, so he put it on hold.

Now that Dumatin might be interested in the bodies of the Dream Realm’s residents, why not let him research it? Perhaps, he might actually discover some hidden secrets.

Angel was well aware that he was not omniscient. The secrets of the Wilderness of Dreams were too vast for him to handle alone. Just like the two energy-related abilities mastered by Sanders, it would take Angel several decades to achieve any results if it were up to him, let alone explore more profoundly.

And this is just a small branch of the Wilderness of Dreams. Many similar situations exist. Angel doesn’t believe he can fully comprehend the secrets of the Wilderness of Dreams using only his strength.

Therefore, more specialized wizards like Sanders need to enter the Wilderness of Dreams. Their research can also promote the development of the Wilderness of Dreams.

Only by harnessing diverse strengths can the mist be dispelled, and the truth seen.

Angel wasn’t worried about them hoarding any breakthrough results because he possessed the most central and authoritative Ability Tree. Any bit of research they achieved could not escape Angel’s scrutiny.

Just like Sanders’ current ”Magic Power Resurrection” project in the Wilderness of Dreams, Angel knew nothing about energy before. But now, if he wished, he could reveal the entire essence of Sanders’ ”Magic Power Resurrection” project from the Ability Tree in a very short time.

So, with such a backup and assurance, Angel didn’t mind Dumatin’s exploration of the Dream Realm’s residents. Any real discoveries would not only benefit Dumatin but also Angel himself.

”However, many residents of Originheart City are inherently kind. It would be a pity to make them experimental subjects. If Dumatin does pursue such research, you can send the prisoners from the dungeons to him.”

Frode pondered for a moment and nodded: ”I understand.”

After discussing Dumatin, Angel returned to the main topic and asked Frode about recent developments.

They first discussed Shanni and Adar’s training.

Adar had thoroughly completed the possession training, and the death aura accumulated within him finally found a channel for release. His soul was no longer surrounded by the death aura, appearing more transparent and spiritually vibrant.

However, while Adar’s training put Frode at ease, his life was another story.

Adar had been frequently visiting Star Lake Castle recently, possessing little Sam or those sent there by Neya.

Regularly causing blunders, for instance, yesterday, he possessed a maid at night who then went to the kitchen to roast meat.

Adar enjoyed the feast, but the maid, who was determined to lose weight, woke up the next morning and broke down crying.

This gave Frode quite a headache.

Yet, despite the headache, Frode was slightly envious of Adar because he also wanted to taste the roasted meat...
