Chapter 1464: Moment of Peace

”Huu...” Noel took a deep breath. The moment he opened his eyes, he drew his sword, unleashing tremendous energy from within.

The energy moved so fast that the top of a small mountain was cut in an instant. The top of the mountain just crumbled into pieces and fell in the form of a landslide.

”Hu...” Noel exhaled before glancing to the left.

Laufey landed next to him before politely bowing to him. ”My lord. We have expanded our search area by two times, but it looks like they’ve retreated to a much deeper area than we imagined.”

”There’s no need to be that polite, Uncle. There’s no one other than us here.”

Laufey had a wry smile on his face but soon shook his head. ”If I don’t get used to it and slip up, it will cause a lot of trouble. So, please allow me to speak to you this way. This is a chance that I never thought I would even have, and I don’t want to ruin it with my own hand.”

Noel was helpless. He could only say, ”If that’s your decision, then I shall respect it. For now, we will maintain the perimeter. Just watching the area alone will help us in figuring out the enemy’s movement. So, keep it for now. I believe it’s in their best interest to attack me soon.”

Laufey couldn’t help but glance at the mountain. It was indeed true. If Noel could continue to grow like this, he would be too strong for them later on.

Still, the mountain was a few hundred meters from them. Even though it was just the top of the mountain, the power of that swing was not a mere spirit transcendence could produce.

It was so much that Laufey couldn’t help but ask, ”Have you become a spirit king? The former lord sometimes mentioned his ancestor splitting the mountain with a single swing.”

”Not yet.” Noel sighed. ”I’m close. It’s just... I’m missing something, and I don’t know what it is. As long as I find it, I should be able to reach that level.”

Noel closed his eyes, thinking, ’The slash earlier contains the robustness of my spiritual energy that transforms into the sharp energy. Thanks to the chance, my attack can travel much farther and contains even more powerful strength.

’After all, unlike the original slash, this one is changed from the very foundation, the spiritual energy. If I add my fire element or ice element, it will boost its power to another level.

’Still, if I want to cut the mountain...’ Noel fell silent for a moment.

He raised his sword and swung it. The slash traveled at light speed and struck the mountain.

The vertical slash created a massive hole in the ground and cut the mountain, but it only left a deep mark on the mountain instead of splitting it in two.

The flame then emerged from the hole, albeit this was the extent of his power.

”...” Noel shook his head helplessly. ”Yeah. It’s still impossible for me. If I can find out that last thing, everything will be complete.

”If I have to make an analogy, it feels like I have the head and all four limbs. However, I don’t have the body that connects them.

”That’s why I can only utilize parts of my body instead of combining them into a single existence.”

Laufey didn’t say anything. He didn’t understand because he was only a peak grandmaster, not even a spirit transcendence.

”Uncle. Do you want to become a spirit transcendence?” Nathan asked.

”!!!” Laufey was surprised at first, but he soon rejected it. ”No. I know that you have been helping a lot of people reach this stage. It’s good, but I just can’t do it. It’s not a matter of whether I want to do it or not.

”Right now, the strain in the spirit link due to the demonization doesn’t allow me to do anything. In fact, maintaining that link is the only thing I can do right now. If I push it forward by becoming a spirit transcendence, I don’t know what will happen. That was what my spirit said.”

Noel thought for a moment before nodding his head. ”If that’s the opinion of your spirit, then I shall respect it. They are more aware of the situation with the spirit link, so it can’t be helped.”

”Yes.”

”Ah, that’s right. How is Anna?”

”The madam remains inside the mansion. Before coming here, I had the opportunity to see her. She seemed to be meditating with her sword. Lightning was sparking around her body, so I had asked the maids not to go around that area.”

”Hmm...” Noel looked up, thinking, ’I guess Anna’s method of reaching the spirit king lies in the fact that she has the original Anna. She has someone she can consult and work with.

’The original Anna is still Anna, so by expressing each other’s understanding clearly, she can gain more understanding within the same time.’

On the one hand, if Anna were to be the first one who became a spirit transcendence, with her speed, she should have no problem in reaching the spirit king stage by now. On the other hand, the reason Anna could find her king path so quickly was due to the sparring with Noel.

In terms of discovering the path, Noel was more excellent than her, so Anna would definitely refute that claim by saying she probably wouldn’t have found any clue about the king path if she were the first one.

After some thoughts, Noel gave an order. ”For now, I will remain here and focus on my training. Since we can’t find the enemy, we will just let them be for now. We know they’re coming.

”Hence, I want you to make the necessary preparations for the incoming attack. Since this is the prelude to the big battle against the demon king, I’m planning to take advantage of everything I have, including all the fortresses that have been built along with the airships.

”Prepare all those things for me. Also, ask Harley to keep a close eye on the east side of the kingdom. We might get hit from there as well.”

”Understood.” Laufey bowed.
