Chapter 1549: Chapter 15: Drunkenness

After completing a series of procedures and collecting Meilodi’s belongings, Su Xiao walked out of the prison. Meilodi followed not too closely, nor too far. Judging from her expression, she seemed ready to escape at any moment.

”I’ll give you 10 minutes to escape. Starting now...”

Su Xiao took out a pocket watch and started timing.

”What will happen if I’m caught after 10 minutes?”

Meilodi was smart; she didn’t flee immediately. Redeeming a White Witch with a history of fraud required a huge amount of gold coins.

”I’ll skin you alive.”

”Haha, that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard recently...”

Meilodi’s laughter slowly stopped. Whether it was an illusion or reality, she felt as though the other party really might do it!

”What do you want? My body? Forget it, I’m a very stubborn person. If you’re interested in a corpse, you can try possessing me.”

Meilodi’s expression turned serious. She knew this was an opportunity, a dangerous one. She was in dire need of money, and Su Xiao seemed quite wealthy.

”Finished talking?”

”Uh~ I guess.”

”Follow me.”

Su Xiao started walking toward a tavern, where Bubu Wang was already waiting. It was nine in the morning, and the tavern was nearly empty.

Five minutes later.

Hiss～

A wooden stein as thick as a fist was filled, overflowing. The bartender took a wooden ruler, scraped off the white beer foam at the brim, and tapped the bar, sending the foam flying. The whole action was very skillful.

A large mug of beer was placed in front of Su Xiao. The transparent beer glass held amber-colored beer, bubbles rising rapidly, emitting a pleasant hissing sound.

In the quiet tavern, Su Xiao and Meilodi sat across from each other at a wooden table in the corner. Only a few drunkards were present; practical townsfolk wouldn’t drink at this time.

”Drink.”

Su Xiao picked up the beer mug in front of him and placed it before Meilodi. Meilodi wrinkled her delicate brows. As an elegant lady, gulping down a beer was obviously out of the question. ℴ

With a clink, a gold coin fell onto the wooden table. The drunkards and bartender all glanced over, some with greed in their eyes, but upon seeing A Mu, standing three meters tall, they quickly retracted their gaze.

”One mug, one coin.”

”Heh.”

Meilodi chuckled slightly with a hint of ’disdain.’ She pulled off her black gloves and tossed them onto the table, her white hand gripping the mug handle...

Gulu, gulu, gulu...

Maintaining her elegance, Meilodi finished the beer after over a dozen sips. She reached out to hold the coin on the table.

”This is mine now.”

”Indeed.”

As Su Xiao spoke, he opened his hand, and several more gold coins landed on the table.

”Don’t even think about it.”

Meilodi put down the empty mug, trying hard to suppress the urge to burp from the beer. She understood Su Xiao’s intention—one mug, one coin.

”The first mug, one coin,” Su Xiao said, pinching two coins between his fingers, ”the second mug, two coins, the third mug, three coins.”

”Are you... a devil?”

Without hesitation, Meilodi grabbed the only remaining mug of beer on the table.

”Bartender, more beer.”

”Yes, guests.”

Ten minutes later, the wooden table in front of Su Xiao was filled with beer mugs, white beer foam sliding slowly down the sides to the base.

”I’m still fine, no problem. I am a witch～”

Leaning over the numerous beer mugs, Meilodi’s pretty face was slightly flushed, occasionally letting out a foolish chuckle. It was a laugh from the heart because she had gotten a lot of gold coins.

”Witch, don’t sleep.”

Su Xiao patted Meilodi’s head.

”Huh?” Meilodi looked at Su Xiao in confusion, ”Who are you?”

”Who I am is not important, but I want to learn something about the Death Land.”

”Death Land? That wretched place, who would want to know about it? Some twisted old woman set up a ’Dust Frost Temptation’ in the southern part. Whoever reveals detailed information about the Death Land would trigger that curse. Hey, are you trying to trick me into talking about the Death Land? I am Meilodi, Guisi Witch·Meilodi, very strong～”

Clearly, Meilodi was drunk, which was exactly the effect Su Xiao wanted. Though he had only interacted with Meilodi briefly, he found one of her weaknesses: she was as passionate about money as she was about life itself. Or perhaps, she had something she desperately needed to accomplish that required a large amount of money, which is why she even impersonated a prominent figure to enter the city.

”Not much deviation from what I expected.”

Meilodi’s words confirmed Su Xiao’s previous suspicions.

”If I want to join the Holy Healing Church, what should I do? How do I become a Witch Hunter?”

”I don’t know, I want to drink, I want gold coins, leave me alone.”

Leaning over the numerous beer mugs, Meilodi looked hazily at Su Xiao.

”Tell me the information, and you can have whatever you want.”

”Oh? Then let me tell you, to join the Holy Healing Church... you only need... an identity proof, but that’s just for small fry. To become a Witch Hunter... if you’re not a talent cultivated by the Holy Healing Church, you must at least hunt a witch, not me, a Black Witch! Black Witch～”

”Holy Healing Church...”

”Huff～”

Before Su Xiao could finish, Meilodi emitted a faint snore.

”A Mu, carry her.”

For Su Xiao’s request, A Mu obeyed without question. Bubu Wang, beside them, grinned, as if to say, ”Master, you’re letting A Mu handle such an enticing task.”

”...”

Su Xiao said nothing. Carrying Meilodi wasn’t as appealing as it seemed. In the initial stage of drunkenness, one couldn’t enter deep sleep.

”Ugh～”

Meilodi, on A Mu’s back, twitched. A Mu looked curiously at this long-legged female. As it walked out of the tavern, Meilodi suddenly vomited over its back.

Bubu Wang’s dog face twitched, casting a look at Su Xiao, as if to say, ”Master, you sure are foresighted.”

”Cough, just a coincidence. A Mu, don’t just stand there, find a hotel to settle this woman, we’ll still need her later.”

Su Xiao first exchanged a few gold coins for silver coins or smaller copper coins. He intended to stay in Holy Healing City for a while, at least until he found clues about the word ’Mo’; Meilodi was one of the information sources.

Soon, Su Xiao rented a room at a place called ’Locke Inn.’

The economy of Holy Healing City was quite developed. The city even had a sewage system below. Don’t underestimate these dirty sewers; they made the city cleaner and significantly reduced the risk of disease outbreaks.

In ancient Europe, waste was often dumped into the streets or alleys, which can be imagined. High heels were thus invented and promoted. Initially, their primary function was to avoid stepping in feces. It’s amazing, but this is indeed the truth.

In Locke Inn’s second floor, Su Xiao sat cross-legged on a wooden chair, while Meilodi slept soundly on the bed. As for this ’Sleeping Beauty,’ reeking of alcohol and occasionally vomiting, Su Xiao was uninterested.

Time slowly passed. As the evening sun enveloped Holy Healing City, Meilodi slowly awoke in bed, embracing the blanket, bleary-eyed.

”Water～”

Meilodi raised her arm. It was the first time in her life she’d drunk so much she forgot what happened before. In her memory, Su Xiao bailed her out of jail and brought her to a tavern. With each additional glass of beer she drank, she received the equivalent number of coins. Her memory stopped there.

Recalling this, Meilodi’s eyes widened. Carefully sensing her body’s changes, she manually checked herself to ensure all was fine. She relaxed her tensed body, but as she got up, she caught sight of Su Xiao sitting cross-legged on the wooden chair from the corner of her eye.

The atmosphere was extremely awkward, so much so that Meilodi wanted to jump out the window and escape.

”You, you saw everything.”

Meilodi’s cheek twitched. Though she appeared seductive, she was conservative to the point of stubbornness.

”If you’re talking about, when you just took off that...”

”Please don’t say it, don’t continue.”

Meilodi fixed her attire, her expression gradually returning to normal, forcing herself to forget the awkward scene just now.

Su Xiao tossed a bottle of water to Meilodi. After catching it, she took several sips. It’s just like this after drinking—alcohol causes some of the cell’s water content to seep out, which is the main reason for thirst after drinking.

After hydrating, Meilodi’s spirits improved somewhat.

”What’s your true purpose for looking for me? I can’t possibly tell you everything about the Death Land. I’ve already disclosed everything I can. As for joining the Holy Healing Church, you can inquire about these in many places.”

Evidently, Meilodi recalled some events following her intoxication.

”I want you to assist me in hunting the Black Witch.”

”What?!”

Meilodi’s pupils contracted, her eyes filled with disbelief.
