Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 217: Chapter 217: Son-in-law who comes knocking at the door

Moreover, as his Soul Power increased, Ye Qingchen found that wielding the Fen Tian Earth Fire had become even more effortless.

Just as before, Qin Yue stood guard at the door to prevent any interruptions, while Qin Zhantian sat cross-legged at the head of the bed. Ye Qingchen then began to circulate his Soul Power, drawing the Fire Poison from Qin Zhantian’s body.

Qin Zhantian’s constitution had greatly improved, so his body was now able to withstand the Fire Poison’s minor rampages. This was precisely why Ye Qingchen had decided to purge the Fire Poison in several sessions.

This time, the purging process went exceptionally smoothly. The Fire Poison showed no signs of erupting at all. Qin Zhantian, who had braced himself for another round of torture, was so unexpectedly at ease that he couldn’t help but let out a long sigh of relief.

After he stopped drawing out the Fire Poison, Ye Qingchen began to collect the residual poison from the ground. The last time he had used Fire Poison to melt the mysterious jade stone, it had been exhausted after dissolving only half of it. Gathering more this time should be enough to melt the jade completely.

Ye Qingchen couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the thought. Once I melt the jade and extract the Spirit Fire Seed, my strength and my Alchemy Realm will surely soar!

”Many thanks for your help, Young Friend Ye. I feel more relaxed than I have in years!” Qin Zhantian exclaimed as he moved his body, feeling that the Fire Poison within him had been reduced to almost nothing.

Ye Qingchen smiled and replied, ”Elder Qin, most of the Fire Poison is gone. However, I estimate you’ll need at least one more session for a complete recovery. Please be patient and don’t start cultivating until the Fire Poison is fully purged. For the next few days, focus on recuperating.”

Qin Zhantian nodded. Then, as if recalling something, he asked, ”Young Friend Ye, isn’t tomorrow the final round of the grand Alchemy Contest?”

Ye Qingchen nodded. ”Tomorrow is the mixed competition for the Sect Tournament, which is also the final match. The results should be announced then.”

Hearing this, Qin Yue said excitedly, ”Then Grandfather and I will go and cheer for you tomorrow!”

Qin Yue’s excitement brought a peculiar look to Qin Zhantian’s eyes, but he said nothing. It was only right that he go and cheer for Ye Qingchen tomorrow.

However, to their surprise, Ye Qingchen shook his head. ”When I first registered, I only signed up for the youth group competition. It’s very likely I won’t be participating in the mixed competition.”

Upon hearing Ye Qingchen’s words, Qin Yue blurted out, ”Why? You’re so powerful, the championship would definitely be yours if you competed. What is the Qingyun Sect thinking? Having an alchemy genius like you and not making use of...” Her voice trailed off as she realized she might have spoken out of turn.

A wry smile touched Qin Zhantian’s lips. While Ye Qingchen was truly formidable, the main contenders in tomorrow’s mixed competition were all Pill King powerhouses. Even if Ye Qingchen participated, he would be an assistant at best. Yet in Qin Yue’s eyes, he was already the star of the show.

Thinking this, Qin Zhantian patted Qin Yue’s hair and said, ”Pavilion Master Zhang of the Qingyun Sect has a prominent reputation in the Alchemy Dao. Whatever arrangements he makes, he has his reasons. Regardless of whether Young Friend Ye participates, we will all go to the venue tomorrow!”

Anxious to return, melt the jade, and extract the Spirit Fire Seed, Ye Qingchen didn’t notice the strange expressions on the grandfather and granddaughter. After bidding them farewell, he hurried away, even declining Qin Yue’s offer to see him out.

”Yue’er, what do you think of young Ye?” Qin Zhantian asked, looking at Qin Yue with a playful expression as he sat in his chair.

Qin Yue, not expecting the question, replied shyly, ”Ye Qingchen saved my life and helped you with the Fire Poison, Grandfather. He’s our benefactor.”

”Just a benefactor? I get the feeling you’re rather fond of him,” Qin Zhantian said, struggling to hold back his laughter as he watched his granddaughter blush.

Qin Yue shook her head repeatedly in denial, which only made Qin Zhantian finally burst out laughing. He knew his granddaughter’s temperament all too well. The same Qin Yue who was so decisive and commanding in public had been shy in front of Ye Qingchen several times. Furthermore, her blind faith in Ye Qingchen was more than enough to prove her admiration for him.

What Qin Zhantian hadn’t expected, however, was for his laughter to make Qin Yue sigh. She said glumly, ”In just a few months, Ye Qingchen advanced his Martial Artist cultivation to the Great Martial Master Realm, while also becoming a fourth-grade Alchemist. Such talent is unheard of. How could I possibly be worthy of him?”

Qin Zhantian burst out laughing again, surprised that his granddaughter would feel inferior to Ye Qingchen. ”Ye Qingchen’s talent is impressive, but our Yue’er has a noble birth! In the future, you might even become the master of the Rising Sun Pavilion. How could you not be more than a match for him?”

At her grandfather’s words, the sparkle returned to Qin Yue’s eyes.

Noticing the change, Qin Zhantian continued, ”If all else fails, I’ll go propose on your behalf and ask Ye Qingchen to marry into our Rising Sun Pavilion! I refuse to believe he would turn down such a wonderful offer.”

”Grandfather, what are you saying!” Hearing his increasingly outrageous suggestions, a mortified Qin Yue fled the room, leaving Qin Zhantian behind, laughing heartily.

What neither of them realized was that their entire conversation had been overheard by Qin Xi, who was standing just outside the door.

Qin Xi hadn’t meant to eavesdrop. She had come to check on her grandfather’s condition, but just as she reached the door, she heard him say that Qin Yue would one day take over as head of the Rising Sun Pavilion.

The news struck her like a thunderbolt, filling her with a sense of crisis. If Qin Yue really took over the Rising Sun Pavilion, not only would all of Qin Xi’s years of scheming be for nothing, but she would certainly seek revenge for the many times Qin Xi had sent people after her.

How could she possibly fight against Qin Yue with her meager connections? No, she could not let that happen!

Qin Xi thought viciously as an image formed in her mind. Ye Qingchen! It’s all your fault, you’ve ruined my plans! I’ll find a chance to kill you first, and then I’ll kill that little wretch, Qin Yue!
