Chapter 952: Chapter 948: I Had a Dream

In the dead of night, Xiao Tian, lying in bed, suddenly heard a faint knocking at the door. He quickly turned on the light and walked towards the door.

When he opened the door, he saw Xiang Yiting with red-rimmed eyes, as if she had just been crying.

Xiao Tian’s expression changed as he anxiously asked, ”What’s wrong with you? What happened?”

His question struck a chord. Looking at Xiao Tian’s eager eyes, Xiang Yiting’s heart softened, and tears welled up once more. Though she wasn’t sobbing, these silent tears were the most moving.

Hastily pulling Xiang Yiting inside, Xiao Tian asked again, ”What on earth happened?”

After a moment, Xiang Yiting wiped away her tears with her sleeve and looked directly into Xiao Tian’s eyes, saying, ”I... just had a dream.”

Xiao Tian couldn’t help but laugh, patting Xiang Yiting’s head, ”It’s just a dream, do you have to cry over it?”

”Don’t you want to ask what I dreamt of?” Xiang Yiting asked with a very serious expression, without a hint of a joke.

”Since you put it that way, I should probably ask.” Xiao Tian coughed twice, trying hard to make his expression seem more serious, ”What did you dream just now?”

Xiang Yiting began slowly, ”I dreamt that Clare pulled me through a forest, running, and suddenly it was as if someone was choking me. I couldn’t say a word, and breathing became increasingly difficult.”

”Then, Clare became very anxious. She found you, and after you came, you tried really hard, but still, I didn’t wake up, so you grew very anxious and even said...”

Xiao Tian suddenly had a bad premonition, as if something big was about to happen, and pressed on, ”Said what?”

”You said that even if the Death God descended, you would still bring me back from him!”

At this, a beautiful flower seemed to bloom in Xiang Yiting’s eyes, and a gentle smile came from her heart, making her whole being seem surrounded by happiness.

However, after hearing Xiang Yiting’s words, Xiao Tian’s face turned somewhat grim. If it wasn’t a mere coincidence, then Xiang Yiting must have found out something.

But Xiang Yiting didn’t wait for him to speak, instead, she continued with her dream, ”Then you asked Clare to... to take off my clothes, and later inserted many silver needles into my back.”

Seeing Xiang Yiting with her head down, blushing, and her voice getting lower, Xiao Tian finally confirmed something: Xiang Yiting, even if she wasn’t awake at the time, was conscious, fully aware of everything from beginning to end.

This explained some of the odd behaviors in Xiang Yiting since then, like avoiding eye contact with him and blushing inexplicably.

However, Xiao Tian couldn’t understand what Xiang Yiting intended by bringing this up now. If she wanted to blame him, it didn’t seem like it.

But if she wanted him to take responsibility, Xiao Tian felt that Xiang Yiting didn’t need to bring it up so roundaboutly, could it be due to shyness?

Not understanding the situation, Xiao Tian’s voice was somewhat dry as he said, ”You... know everything?”

In fact, Xiao Tian wanted to brush aside Xiang Yiting’s claim, but thought such behavior was disgraceful, especially since Xiang Yiting mentioned it voluntarily. Pretending nothing happened would be quite shameless.

Even though his intention then was to save a life, seeing things he shouldn’t have seen was still a fact. The two matters were inherently linked, but could also be viewed separately, depending on how Xiang Yiting thought.

Xiang Yiting took a deep breath, trying to keep her tone even, and said, ”I bring this up because I want to know, what your true identity is like?”

Xiao Tian felt a chill as he had tremendous confidence in his disguise, believing that even if he slipped up, no one would instantly see through his facade. Yet Xiang Yiting’s question undeniably shattered his confidence!

After a moment, Xiao Tian calmed his inner turmoil and smiled, ”Aren’t I right in front of you? This is my true self.”

”Do you remember the time we fell into the water?” Xiang Yiting ignored Xiao Tian’s deflection and asked instead.

”Yes!” Xiao Tian replied lightly.

”Then do you remember what field I’m studying in?” Xiang Yiting asked again.

After a brief thought, Xiao Tian replied, ”Some kind of dermatology.”

Xiang Yiting nodded and explained in a calm tone, ”Usually, when a person is submerged in water for too long, the skin turns pale, and the lips turn purple. But your complexion was like that of a normal person then, which is illogical.”

”Moreover, many of the traits you’ve shown since then don’t match your identity as an academic.”

Continuing, Xiang Yiting added, ”Of course, this is based on looking at you with skepticism, otherwise your behavior wasn’t over-the-top. At least Clare didn’t notice, did she?”

After hearing Xiang Yiting’s explanation, Xiao Tian couldn’t help but think that the saying that women are natural Sherlocks is indeed a wise saying.

After some time, he touched the bridge of his nose, showing a wry smile, ”Are you trying to comfort me?”

Xiang Yiting shook her head, ”You’re very exceptional, at least far more than I am. I don’t have the right to comfort you!”

”Yet you saw through me, didn’t you?”

Being exposed, Xiao Tian decided not to hide anymore and laughed, ”You’re just flattering yourself in a roundabout way!”

Xiang Yiting wasn’t able to smile, but her eyes were piercing as she looked at Xiao Tian, ”I want to know your true identity.”

”Does it matter?”

After a long silence, Xiao Tian retorted.

”It matters immensely!”

Xiang Yiting said with determination, ”I want to know who saved me. Even if his true identity is a wanted criminal, I don’t care!”

Xiao Tian was instantly speechless—was she studying medicine or fortune-telling? Wasn’t he indeed a wanted criminal pursued nationwide in Japan?!

Being directly hit by Xiang Yiting’s words, Xiao Tian still didn’t resolve himself to remove his mask since he believed that regardless of any perspective, revealing his true appearance would be utterly detrimental and without benefit to Xiang Yiting.

Of course, this was based on a logical analysis, devoid of personal bias.

”If it’s too difficult for you, I won’t force you. You’re my savior, and I’ll always be grateful for you!” Xiang Yiting said with a tone containing a hint of disappointment as Xiao Tian remained motionless.

Xiao Tian’s mind was in turmoil. From his standpoint, revealing his true face to Xiang Yiting was absolutely inadvisable, yet thinking from Xiang Yiting’s perspective yielded the opposite conclusion.

For a moment, the emotions of hesitation spread incessantly, causing even someone as steadfast as Xiao Tian to feel waves of frustration rising from his heart, a throbbing pain pounding at his temples...
