F1: The Speed Legend

Silverstone is absolutely never quiet.

It was eight o’clock in the morning. The clouds hung low and heavy in the sky. Violent, howling winds swept aggressively across the flat, open plains of Northamptonshire. The air was thick with the incredibly potent, unmistakable scent of freshly cut grass mixed inextricably with high-octane engine oil. Rosanna Stapleton stood in the massive, slowly creeping queue waiting to enter the circuit. She stared at the sprawling, infinite sea of humanity stretching out as far as the eye could see. Her heart was already hammering violently against her ribs—

It was time for the British Grand Prix.

Everyone constantly raves that Monaco is the absolute, undisputed crown jewel of Formula 1, consistently attracting an astronomical density of global A-list celebrities and billionaires year after year. However, the objective reality is that the sheer, blinding star power present at the British Grand Prix has absolutely never been inferior.

This year was absolutely no exception.

Formula 1 had recently, spectacularly celebrated its monumental 1000th Grand Prix in Shanghai. This historic milestone undeniably imbued the entire 2019 season with an incredibly special, profound significance. As the universally recognized birthplace of modern Formula 1, Silverstone had officially become the absolute primary destination for global motorsport fans undertaking their ultimate pilgrimage. The attendance figures for the British Grand Prix were completely, violently shattering all previous historical records.

Standing amidst the massive, suffocatingly dense crowd, the sheer scale of the event was viscerally, terrifyingly apparent. Looking around at the endless ocean of people, you felt exactly like a single, insignificant drop of water lost in a massive, raging sea. Amidst the chaotic, vibrant explosion of colorful team apparel, a specific, understated yet incredibly luxurious shade of silver shimmered with a faint, unmistakable halo.

Silver encapsulated by pristine white. White weaving through a sea of silver. The two colors intertwined flawlessly, creating a massive, spectacular visual tapestry that aggressively blanketed every single corner of the Silverstone circuit. It projected an aura of absolute, tyrannical dominance. Absolutely zero words were required to instantly, viscerally comprehend exactly whose home turf this was—

Lewis Hamilton.

Although the corporate headquarters of McLaren, Racing Point, and Williams were all located literally right next door to the Silverstone circuit... and although Mercedes-Benz, Red Bull, Renault, and countless other teams maintained massive operational bases in close proximity... technically, Silverstone served as a ’home race’ for the vast majority of the grid, especially the pure-blooded British legacy teams like McLaren and Williams.

However, for the past several years, there had only ever been one true, absolute protagonist at Silverstone: Hamilton. Hamilton. And Hamilton.

The British driver, who had launched his career with McLaren and subsequently violently ascended to the absolute summit with Mercedes-Benz, had successfully resurrected the fierce passion and burning national pride of British motorsport fans. He had authored a massive, unprecedented string of historic achievements. He had long since evolved into an absolute, untouchable, god-like entity in the eyes of the younger generation of fans.

The truly, genuinely mind-boggling phenomenon was this: while almost every other driver on the grid inevitably suffered from the infamous, agonizing ’Home Race Curse,’ Silverstone functioned exactly like an invincible lucky charm for Hamilton. Since 2014, Hamilton had successfully secured a podium finish at Silverstone every single year without fail. Regardless of how catastrophically poorly the rest of his season was progressing, the exact second Hamilton arrived at Silverstone, he violently mutated into a Super Saiyan. He was utterly invincible, absolutely unstoppable, and an eternal, terrifying nightmare for every single competitor on the grid.

Precisely because of this unparalleled, legendary track record, ’Silverstone’ possessed a vastly more profound, uniquely critical significance for Hamilton. And the exact same sentiment applied to his massive, fanatical fanbase.

Year after year, Hamilton’s foundational support within the UK expanded exponentially. The sheer volume of fans physically traveling to Silverstone explicitly to support him continued to shatter records.

Massive, highly credible rumors were currently circulating that the Silverstone circuit management was actively, seriously considering officially designating a ”Hamilton Grandstand.” They wouldn’t build an entirely new structure; they would simply officially rename an existing, premium grandstand after him. Fans purchasing tickets for this specific section would receive highly exclusive VIP treatment, explicitly intended to highlight Hamilton’s unparalleled, god-like status.

Currently, the rumor remained strictly unconfirmed; circuit management was allegedly still debating the logistics. However, the mere existence of the rumor was more than sufficient to completely, violently detonate Hamilton’s fanbase.

After all, Hamilton was still a highly active, competing driver. The fact that he was receiving this level of legendary, unprecedented recognition while still actively fighting for World Championships on the asphalt was undeniably a massive, monumental testament to his legacy. It further, definitively solidified Hamilton’s absolute, unrivaled dominance at the Silverstone circuit.

And this was merely the absolute tip of the iceberg regarding Hamilton’s massive, terrifying global influence and sheer drawing power. As the undisputed face of Formula 1, Hamilton enjoyed massive, unparalleled prestige worldwide. But within the borders of the United Kingdom, that prestige was magnified fivefold, perhaps even tenfold. He was, without a shadow of a doubt, the absolute, defining representative of motorsport for the entire British Isles.

Traveling to Silverstone specifically to watch Hamilton race wasn’t merely attending a sporting event; it was a religious pilgrimage.

The attendance figures continued to relentlessly shatter historical records every single year, and this year was absolutely no exception.

Or, to be vastly more accurate: this year, the fanaticism was exponentially more intense. Because Hamilton had suffered the agonizing, catastrophic shock of losing his World Championship crown during the 2018 season, his entire fanbase was aggressively sharpening their blades. This fierce loyalty was heavily amplified by their absolute, unshakable conviction that his crown had been stolen via despicable, highly illegal tactics. They firmly believed a massive, corrupt conspiracy between the FIA and Ferrari, combined with Kai’s filthy, underhanded methods, was the sole reason Hamilton had temporarily lost his throne. They were completely unified, fiercely determined to offer their absolute, unwavering support, desperately eager to witness Hamilton violently reclaim his rightful glory.

And so—

Total, absolute detonation.

Completely surrounded and engulfed by this massive, surging tidal wave, Stapleton found herself completely surrounded by Mercedes-Benz fans on all sides. No, to be brutally accurate, they were exclusively Hamilton fans. The number ”44” violently saturated absolutely every single inch of her peripheral vision. Stapleton felt an unprecedented, terrifying sense of total isolation. She felt exactly as though she could be violently swallowed and completely eradicated by the massive wave at any second.

However, Stapleton took a deep, fortifying breath. She straightened her spine and proudly, defiantly displayed her T-shirt.

It was an official, licensed Ferrari merchandise T-shirt. The bright white number ”22” stood out with glaring, almost offensive prominence amidst the massive, suffocating sea of ”44s.”

Their very first encounter had been in GP3, a mere two years ago. Yet, it felt like an entirely different lifetime. Back then, Silverstone had actually presented a relatively friendly, welcoming atmosphere for Kai... primarily because absolutely no one had the faintest idea who the hell he was. Naturally, absolutely no one could have possibly predicted that merely two years later, this completely unknown kid would violently mutate into the absolute greatest, most terrifying rival of Hamilton’s entire professional career.

But looking back at it now, Stapleton wasn’t surprised in the slightest. Because even two years ago, right here at Silverstone, Kai had already clearly projected that fiercely arrogant, wildly untamed, and entirely unyielding aura.

Last year in Monaco, she had also been completely surrounded by a massive, hostile mob of Mercedes-Benz fans. She had watched that young, seemingly inexperienced rookie navigate the claustrophobic, unforgiving streets, executing a massive, terrifyingly long overcut to miraculously claim the ultimate victory. That desperate, do-or-die aura, that sheer refusal to surrender against impossible odds... that was what truly ignited her blazing passion for motorsport.

He was undeniably destined for greatness.

And today, returning to Silverstone amidst the fiercely contested 2019 season, Kai remained an absolutely massive, agonizing thorn lodged deeply in Hamilton’s throat. His terrifying, unstoppable momentum had repeatedly left the supposedly dominant Hamilton looking incredibly ragged, battered, and desperate. Every single Grand Prix had devolved into a terrifying dance on the edge of a razor blade; there hadn’t been a single minute of peace.

Kai was utilizing undeniable, concrete actions on the asphalt to aggressively broadcast his message—

I am the reigning World Champion!

The name ”Lewis” constantly, relentlessly echoed over the circuit loudspeakers and rippled through the massive crowd. Countless Union Jack flags whipped violently in the air. Every single flushed, eager face was completely saturated with hot-blooded passion. They fiercely clenched their fists and roared at the top of their lungs. Their ecstatic, joyous expressions clearly communicated their absolute conviction that the championship trophy was already securely locked in their pockets.

Naturally, this towering confidence absolutely wasn’t baseless arrogance. Whether it was the terrifying, undeniable performance advantage of the W10 chassis, or Hamilton’s incredibly dominant, flawless track record here over the past five years... everything served as absolute, concrete evidence validating their faith. It violently ignited their fighting spirit, allowing them to stride forward with absolute, majestic confidence, fully expecting to claim yet another Grand Prix victory.

Inevitably, someone in the dense crowd finally noticed Stapleton’s glaringly obvious T-shirt. They stared for a brief, highly judgmental moment before rapidly averting their gaze.

Others were significantly less polite, letting out loud, mocking bursts of sarcastic laughter—

”You’re completely lost, sweetheart.”

”The wrong shirt, in the completely wrong location. A catastrophic life choice.”

”Oh, look at the poor, pathetic lost child.”

A single, highly sarcastic comment triggered a massive, booming wave of condescending laughter from the surrounding crowd.

Stapleton absolutely refused to offer a verbal response. She simply reached down, untied the small bandana wrapped around her right wrist, and silently, proudly raised it high into the air, allowing it to whip fiercely in the wind—

It was a bright red bandana, prominently featuring a striking lightning bolt motif.

This highly specific item had originated from the massive Fan Festival in Shanghai. It was an exclusive gift designed by Kai.

Stapleton had initially spotted a post regarding the bandana from another girl on Instagram. After sending a quick direct message to inquire about it, she discovered that this girl—whose name was Li Lingyu—was also an incredibly die-hard, fiercely loyal supporter of Kai. This year alone, she had already traveled to Melbourne and Shanghai specifically to watch him race. The two girls had quickly forged a strong bond through their online interactions.

When Li Lingyu discovered that Stapleton was planning to attend the British Grand Prix in person to support Kai, she was actually significantly more excited than Stapleton herself, because they both intimately understood exactly how hostile and fiercely partisan the Silverstone environment would be.

Without a single moment of hesitation, Li Lingyu immediately mailed one of her exclusive bandanas to Stapleton. The bandana currently clutched tightly in Stapleton’s hand was an incredibly precious, highly sentimental gift that had traveled halfway across the globe, traversing oceans from mainland China directly to the British Isles. It also served as a profound, undeniable testament to the very first time Kai’s global fanbase had successfully shattered physical, geographical boundaries to establish genuine, tangible connections. The sheer emotional weight of the item felt massive in Stapleton’s hand.

Yes, today Stapleton was technically standing completely alone at Silverstone. But she knew with absolute certainty that she absolutely wasn’t fighting alone.

...

The wind howled violently.

Silverstone remained fiercely true to its infamous reputation. The weather was terrifyingly unpredictable and wildly volatile. A mere thirty-minute interval was more than sufficient to force everyone to violently transition from blistering summer heat to freezing winter chills, and back again. Even a seasoned veteran like Hamilton was completely incapable of accurately predicting exactly what catastrophic weather event would materialize in the next microsecond.

If the weather at Interlagos was universally considered notoriously unpredictable—having caused Mercedes-Benz massive, agonizing suffering last season—then Silverstone was undeniably exponentially worse. Experiencing all four distinct seasons within the span of a single afternoon was absolutely not an exaggerated hyperbole. Therefore, the absolute most critical, overarching variable at Silverstone always revolved around exactly which seasons the circuit would experience during the highly specific two-hour window of the race.

Stapleton continued to hold the bright red bandana high in the air, letting it snap fiercely in the wind. Amidst the massive, overwhelming, infinite tidal wave of pristine white and silver, she ignited a single, brilliant spark of defiant color.

Even after successfully passing through the ticketing gates, Stapleton stubbornly maintained her posture. Exactly like the Statue of Liberty, she stood unyielding amidst the freezing, biting winds of Silverstone.

She was waiting—

Following the massive, viral explosion of the Shanghai Grand Prix, a rapidly expanding global network of fans had discovered Kai’s exclusive merchandise on social media.

Unfortunately, because they hadn’t been able to physically travel to Shanghai, or had simply missed the Fan Festival entirely, they had missed the golden opportunity to acquire these highly coveted items. A massive, absolutely overwhelming avalanche of desperate requests and frantic inquiries flooded Ferrari’s official inboxes exactly like a blizzard.

Li Lingyu had eventually proposed a secondary strategy, advising the global fanbase to actively email Nicolas Todt and Lorenzo directly, as they were the only individuals capable of establishing direct, unfiltered contact with Kai to formally submit the requests.

However, all their desperate pleas seemed to vanish entirely into a massive black hole. They received absolutely zero official response. The fans were rapidly becoming deeply frustrated and were preparing to abandon hope entirely—which was precisely why Li Lingyu had generously mailed her only spare bandana directly to Stapleton. But completely, incredibly unexpectedly, during the French Grand Prix weekend, Kai had personally, officially confirmed the massive news: his exclusive, personal merchandise line was officially launching in partnership with Ferrari.

The initial launch collection included T-shirts, bandanas, and hats.

This time, it absolutely wasn’t a limited, personal initiative funded directly by Kai. It was the highly anticipated, official, massive collaborative launch between Kai and Ferrari! Officially licensed!

And the very first physical merchandise drop was happening right here at Silverstone!

It was a massively bold, highly provocative corporate decision. It served as yet another glaring, undeniable declaration of Ferrari’s absolute resolve and fierce determination to aggressively confront Mercedes-Benz on every conceivable front.

Currently, Stapleton was standing exactly where she needed to be, patiently waiting. Exactly like waiting for Godot—

She knew the odds of success were astronomically low.

This was the United Kingdom. This was Hamilton’s absolute, undisputed fortress. Forget about Kai; even the massive, deeply entrenched fanbases of McLaren and Williams were forced to quietly stand at the back of the line. Ferrari possessed absolutely zero natural breathing room here. The slightest misstep could easily result in becoming the primary target of massive, coordinated mockery and potentially even physical harassment. Maintaining absolute situational awareness for personal safety was a highly pragmatic requirement.

However, Stapleton stubbornly refused to surrender. She straightened her spine. She maintained absolute, unwavering faith. Just as she and Li Lingyu—two total strangers who had never physically met—had forged a profound connection entirely through their shared support for Kai, interacting online exactly like lifelong friends... she firmly believed there must be others here in the UK, right here at Silverstone, who shared that exact same sentiment. People willing to completely abandon their deeply entrenched national biases to offer genuine, heartfelt applause for a highly specific, fiercely independent spirit, a unique aura, and an undeniable charisma.

Yes, right here at Silverstone. Even if it was Silverstone. Precisely because it was Silverstone.

Stapleton stood defiantly amidst the massive, boundless silver ocean, patiently waiting for a Godot who might appear, or who might never arrive.

Quietly, miraculously, a tiny spark of a miracle pierced through the suffocating soil and shattered the massive barriers. Exactly like a fiercely stubborn rose blooming arrogantly in the middle of a desolate, barren desert, radiating spectacular, vibrant life.

A group of four university students, practically vibrating with eager anticipation. A father carrying his young child. Three slightly awkward, reserved young adults who appeared to have only recently entered the workforce. An elderly man proudly sporting a classic Ferrari cap. A shy, highly introverted middle-aged woman. A massive, chaotic cluster of high school girls who literally couldn’t stop screaming.

One by one. Group by group. They slowly, methodically coalesced, forming a tiny, vibrant puddle. They successfully carved out a microscopic, yet undeniably vital, safe space amidst the massive, infinite expanse of the hostile silver ocean.

There was no need for awkward, diplomatic small talk or superficial pleasantries. After exchanging barely three sentences, they became incredibly, instantly familiar. In truth, there was absolutely no secret formula. A single mention of Kai’s name was all it took. They immediately began chatting animatedly, gesturing wildly, completely unable to stop themselves. Age, gender, profession... every single one of those superficial societal labels instantly became entirely irrelevant.

That raw, unadulterated fanaticism burned fiercely and hot, completely saturating their chests, slowly, methodically expanding outward.

Stapleton’s eyes grew incredibly bright. The bandana wrapped tightly around her fingers seemed to magically transform into a blazing, literal flame, burning fiercely against the wind.

Right at that exact moment, a skinny, slightly fragile-looking kid came sprinting wildly toward them. He aggressively yanked off the brand-new, freshly purchased Number 16 Ferrari lightning-bolt baseball cap he was wearing, executing a massive, highly enthusiastic leap directly into the center of the crowd.

”Are you guys all here for Kai too?! I have been frantically searching for you guys for so incredibly long... literally everywhere I look, it’s nothing but Lewis, Lewis, Lewis. I was genuinely starting to suffocate. When I finally spotted this massive cluster of red, I honestly thought I was hallucinating! Haha! I can’t wait to tell Kimi later that a massive red storm has officially landed at Silverstone!”

”Oh, right! My name is Ollie! I am a massive, die-hard Tifosi. It is incredibly awesome to meet all of you!”

Ollie Bearman extended his right hand with absolute, unbothered confidence. His eyes sparkled brilliantly as he surveyed the highly unusual, wildly diverse demographic composition of the group. He didn’t project a single ounce of shyness or hesitation.

Stapleton could literally feel the joyous laughter bubbling up in her chest. She eagerly extended her own right hand. ”Me too. It’s incredibly wonderful to meet you. I am also a massive Tifosi. Hi, Ollie!”

Outside their tiny perimeter lay the ocean. A massive, boundless, infinite expanse of hostile territory. The Mercedes-Benz and Hamilton fans were currently engaged in a massive, unhinged carnival.

Even though the race hadn’t officially started yet, they had already eagerly, aggressively shifted into absolute party mode.

In the distance, the very first visceral roar of an engine violently shattered the air.

Silverstone had officially awakened.

Whoosh! Whoosh! The massive, chaotic noise and boiling excitement radiating from the various grandstands instantly detonated with an unbelievable, terrifying level of energy, allowing everyone present to deeply, viscerally feel the true, unparalleled allure of Silverstone.

Amidst the howling gale, the fans united in a massive, coordinated effort to whip up an absolute hurricane—

”LEWIS!”

”LEWIS!”

Wave after massive wave. Following the rhythmic cadence of the chant, the massive crowds packing the grandstands began to stand up in perfect synchronization, executing a massive, spectacular Mexican wave.

That massive, physical wave originated in the main grandstand overlooking the starting straight. It surged clockwise, perfectly tracking the layout of the circuit, effortlessly leaping across the empty gaps between the various grandstands. It continued its relentless, continuous march, majestically, tyrannically sweeping across the entire length of the Silverstone circuit. It mutated into a literal, physical hurricane, roaring past with absolute, unchecked aggression. A single, unified name echoed violently between the heavens and the earth.

”LEWIS!”

The sheer volume was apocalyptic.

It was glaringly obvious. Hamilton’s fanbase had been desperately, eagerly anticipating this exact moment. Starting from the sting of Melbourne, they had finally solidified their absolute conviction in Shanghai. They had been continuously, aggressively accumulating and storing this massive energy. Finally, the moment had arrived. Here, at the legendary Silverstone circuit, they were explicitly, aggressively demonstrating Hamilton’s absolute, terrifying, tyrannical dominance to Kai and absolutely any other driver foolish enough to attempt a challenge.

This was the true, absolute, terrifying manifestation of ’Home Turf Advantage.’

The massive, omnipresent sonic boom cascaded down exactly like a torrential summer rainstorm. The entire world was vibrating violently.

Inside the Ferrari pit garage, Kai climbed smoothly into the cockpit. He accepted his steering wheel from Clear. The exact moment he slotted it onto the steering column, a sharp, crisp ’click’ echoed clearly.

”Radio check,” Kai stated.

”Loud and clear,” Borreipaire replied. His voice was stable and highly restrained. ”Wind is blowing North by North-West. Gusts currently measuring three to four meters per second. Track temperature is holding at twenty-four degrees Celsius.”

Kai glanced out of the pit garage. The sky above Silverstone was pressing down incredibly low. It looked exactly like a massive, heavily drawn bowstring. The air was incredibly tense and suffocatingly stagnant—

It appeared they were officially strapping in for another highly volatile weekend entirely saturated with catastrophic variables. For Ferrari and Red Bull, this was undeniably phenomenal news. They desperately required unpredictable variables to actively manufacture overtaking opportunities. Conversely, Mercedes-Benz desperately desired a smooth, entirely predictable race. They merely needed to maintain absolute stability to comfortably assert total control over the Grand Prix.

”Copy that,” Kai acknowledged.

Tap, tap. A gentle, rhythmic knocking sounded directly against his helmet. It sounded exactly like someone casually cracking a walnut. Kai didn’t even need to look up to identify the culprit. Absolutely no one else in the entire organization would ever utilize such an obnoxiously informal greeting.

Exactly as predicted, Clear’s voice immediately crackled over the radio. ”Kai. The entire circuit is currently aggressively chanting Lewis’s name. They’ve even started executing a massive, perfectly synchronized Mexican wave across the different grandstands. It is a genuinely spectacular, highly intimidating visual. Are you absolutely sure you don’t want to take a minute to properly appreciate the spectacle before you head out?”

One listen and it was glaringly obvious that Clear was doing this entirely intentionally. He was actively, deliberately attempting to provoke Kai. Because Clear knew with absolute certainty that he didn’t need to worry about Kai crumbling under the pressure. Quite the opposite. These massive, hostile provocations would inevitably, flawlessly mutate into massive, highly combustible fuel for Kai’s competitive engine.

A moment later, Kai’s voice drifted over the radio, laced with a faint, undeniably amused smile. ”Make absolutely certain you record it. We’ll meticulously review the footage on repeat during our post-race tactical debrief.”

Clear was completely dumbfounded. Absolutely ruthless!

Standing nearby, Mekies completely failed to suppress his amusement, bursting into loud, uninhibited laughter.

...

Clutch pre-set. RPM stabilized perfectly within the optimal target window. Release the clutch. He slowly, methodically rolled out of the pit garage. That brilliant, unmistakable flash of Ferrari red slowly, deliberately pulled onto the asphalt.

”BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

The massive, surging crowd that had been enthusiastically cheering and celebrating a microsecond ago instantly, violently mutated. A massive, deafening torrent of boos cascaded down exactly like a physical waterfall, instantly, aggressively swallowing the Number 22 car whole.

Receiving this level of highly specific, concentrated hostility was an absolute, unique honor across the entire Silverstone circuit. The crowd was so entirely consumed by their hatred they temporarily completely forgot they were supposed to be enthusiastically cheering for Hamilton.

Inside the broadcast booth, Crofty completely lost his battle for composure, a loud laugh bursting from his throat. ”It is glaringly obvious that Kai occupies a highly unique, incredibly special position here at Silverstone.”

Brundle couldn’t resist the heavy sarcasm hidden between the lines. The corners of his mouth curved slightly upward. ”Without a shadow of a doubt. Kai undeniably occupies a highly specific, deeply treasured space within the heart of every single British citizen.”

”Haha!” Crofty laughed even harder.

This was especially true when Kai deliberately raised his right hand, casually waving to the furiously booing crowd in acknowledgment. The broadcast booth completely devolved into absolute, chaotic scorched earth. It wasn’t just the two commentators; the entire production crew erupted into loud, uncontrollable laughter.

However, the spectators packing the main grandstand absolutely did not share their amusement. They stared in profound, absolute disbelief, genuinely questioning what they were seeing. The sheer volume of the boos escalated to an entirely new, deafening stratosphere.

The main grandstand was merely the absolute starting point.

The spectators occupying the subsequent grandstands, operating on a slight delay, finally realized Kai was actively, mockingly waving at them. Their fury instantly boiled over. Their rationality completely collapsed. One by one, grandstand by grandstand, they enthusiastically joined the massive, hostile chorus of boos.

And so, the boos began to roll exactly like a massive tidal wave, rising and falling in continuous, deafening succession. Following Hamilton’s majestic, circuit-wide Mexican wave of adoring cheers, Kai successfully, deliberately provoked a circuit-wide Mexican wave of pure, unadulterated hostility. It instantly mutated into a spectacular, legendary Silverstone moment. It completely detonated across social media, drawing massive, highly entertained crowds of global fans eager to watch the chaos unfold.

And the drama still wasn’t over.

Subsequently, Hamilton’s rabid fanbase, their fury absolutely unquenched, launched a massive, highly coordinated assault on Sky Sports via every conceivable channel. They aggressively demanded that Crofty and Brundle issue an immediate, formal, and highly groveling apology for their ’unprofessional and deeply insulting’ behavior. The fans firmly believed the two commentators had displayed a catastrophic lack of respect for Hamilton and the fiercely loyal, domestic British audience.

Unfortunately for them—

Sky Sports flatly refused to issue an official response. Crofty and Brundle completely, utterly ignored the outrage:

If you are fundamentally incapable of grasping even a microscopic sliver of sarcastic humor, you honestly shouldn’t even bother calling yourselves British.

Naturally, this absolute refusal to capitulate only served to further agitate the fanatical fanbase, making them vastly more aggressive and completely unhinged. The upcoming Saturday and Sunday at Silverstone were guaranteed to be completely sucked into a massive, highly toxic hurricane.

However, all of that was merely foreshadowing for the impending chaos.

Let alone the fact that Kai was completely unaware of the digital fallout; even if he had known, it was highly probable he would have actively chosen to pour significantly more gasoline onto the fire. Therefore, right now, he merely executed a casual, highly sarcastic wave, perfectly completing a single lap. Adopting the arrogant posture of a conquering hero leading a victory parade, he greeted the furious crowd. Upon completing the formation lap, he had already completely banished all extraneous thoughts from his mind, locking his focus entirely onto the highly complex machine currently at his command.

Including his time in GP3, this marked the third occasion Kai had physically driven on the Silverstone circuit—

Without a shadow of a doubt, this was an incredibly classic, highly exhilarating track. Traditional motorsport purists universally hold a deeply profound, beautiful nostalgia for Silverstone. It aggressively prioritizes raw speed and fluid, uninterrupted momentum. Although it isn’t technically the absolute fastest circuit on the F1 calendar, its breathtaking, seamlessly connected flow is absolutely, undeniably unparalleled.

In reality, mastering Silverstone requires vastly more than just raw speed. Rather than pure speed, it is entirely, fundamentally about rhythm.

If a driver simply buries their head and blindly attempts to sprint flat-out through every single sector, they are mathematically guaranteed to fail to secure a competitive lap time. Underlying the blistering speed is a highly sophisticated, deeply experienced requirement to flawlessly balance tension and release, perfectly blending rapid acceleration with highly precise, calculated deceleration. Therefore, it is entirely logical that Alain Prost, famously nicknamed ’The Professor,’ and Lewis Hamilton, renowned for his incredibly stable, hyper-precise driving style, jointly hold the absolute record for the most victories at Silverstone. Both legendary drivers have successfully conquered the summit here a massive five times.

The absolute core objective of Ferrari’s second major upgrade package wasn’t to fundamentally, violently overthrow the underlying architecture of the chassis. The explicit goal was to provide the drivers with vastly more expansive, highly functional operational windows.

In other words, while the SF90’s raw, ultimate single-lap pace had undeniably improved slightly, it was highly unlikely to experience a sudden, miraculous, world-shaking transformation. The true, critical evolution needed to occur within the drivers themselves. How they profoundly understood the chassis, how they manipulated its balance, and exactly how they elected to deploy their aggression across vastly different circuit layouts... that was the absolute soul of this specific upgrade.

Silverstone would serve as a massive, critical crucible to validate this theory—

If it failed, or if the resulting performance gains continued to fall significantly below their projections, then a massive, highly disruptive aerodynamic overhaul would become absolutely, undeniably mandatory. The available time window for Ferrari to continue experimenting and tweaking their current setup was rapidly, catastrophically evaporating.

However, if it succeeded... not only would they successfully deliver a massive, brutal blow directly to the skull of Mercedes-Benz, maintaining a terrifying, suffocating proximity to their rivals, but it would also successfully buy the engineering team massively more time and crucial breathing room to develop their subsequent upgrades.

Although his results here in GP3 and last season in F1 had been highly respectable, on a purely personal level, Kai still significantly preferred circuits like Monaco or Singapore. It wasn’t because they were street circuits; it was entirely because the fundamental architecture of those tracks was vastly more complex, presenting a highly intricate puzzle that demanded to be solved. Alternatively, he preferred circuits like Spa or Monza, which were entirely, purely dedicated to the absolute pursuit of terminal velocity, allowing him to continuously, violently challenge his own absolute limits.

Regarding Silverstone, Kai frankly believed his own fundamental understanding of the circuit was relatively mediocre.

Precisely because of this, the upcoming race felt exactly like a massive adventure. It required continuous exploration and relentless analysis. Therefore, he genuinely, absolutely lacked the free time required to continue playing petty psychological games with the hostile crowd.

The subtle, highly nuanced alterations introduced by the upgrade package were incredibly delicate and fundamentally impossible to accurately articulate using simple language. Kai absolutely needed to quiet his mind and meticulously, viscerally feel the mechanical feedback.

The suspension geometry’s optimal engagement point had been shifted backward by a microscopic, millimeter-level margin. This was explicitly designed to aggressively mitigate the massive, instantaneous load fluctuations experienced by the front tires during the violent braking phase. The brake bias mapping had been entirely recalibrated, significantly accelerating the timeframe required for the front axle to reach its optimal operating temperature while on cold tires. The pedal travel had been significantly shortened, rendering the feedback vastly more linear and immediate. It felt exactly as though a highly sensitive, direct neural link had been established directly to the nose of the chassis. The tactile feedback transmitted by the car was significantly faster and vastly more honest.

However, all of these observations were currently merely theoretical engineering projections. Despite undergoing endless, agonizingly repetitive simulator testing, it was all essentially just academic debate. Now, Kai’s absolute, critical objective was to utilize this brand-new, highly refined performance curve to completely redefine the optimal racing rhythm for Silverstone—

The goal absolutely was not a blind, desperate pursuit of the ultimate single-lap time. It was entirely about locating the absolute perfect equilibrium, securing a vastly more uniform, highly stable energy output to guarantee maximum efficiency during subsequent push phases.

Sector 1 at Silverstone functions exactly like the dramatic overture of a massive symphony. The initial half demands highly fluid, high-speed momentum. The second half violently demands sudden, aggressive braking, navigating treacherous low-to-medium-speed corners, and executing rapid, continuous directional changes before violently launching back into a high-speed sprint. It appears wildly chaotic and intensely aggressive, but a highly rigid, underlying logic governs the entire sequence. It is explicitly designed to force the driver to carefully regulate their breathing, perfectly setting the stage for the massive, flat-out sprint phase that immediately follows.

In reality, the physical feedback from the upgrade package was absolutely most glaringly obvious in this specific sector. The predictability of the front axle had been massively enhanced. The hesitation during the critical braking phase had vanished. The optimal tire operating window had been subtly shifted forward, officially granting Kai the freedom to aggressively apply load during the cold-tire phase without suffering the terrifying, paralyzing fear of instantaneous, catastrophic sliding or violent understeer.

On one hand, it granted him massive, unprecedented freedom to actively dictate the overall rhythm. On the other hand, it provided a massive, highly critical boost in competitiveness during the absolutely vital race start and pit-exit phases.

VROOM—VROOM-VROOM-VROOM—

Blasting down the starting straight. Full throttle, pinned completely to the floor. The engine violently unleashed its maximum power output. The Number 22 car transformed into a brilliant scarlet afterimage, rocketing past the main grandstand, completely leaving the deafening, hostile boos of the Hamilton fanbase choking on its exhaust fumes. With absolute, tyrannical momentum, he plunged directly toward Turn 1: Abbey.

This was a blind, high-speed right-hander, approaching a near 90-degree angle. Following the upgrade, the absolute efficiency of the front wing hadn’t undergone a massive, radical transformation. However, the significantly enhanced mechanical balance granted the nose of the chassis massively increased stability. This crucial refinement explicitly permitted Kai to significantly delay his braking point. He was no longer forced to brake agonizingly early to desperately search for a safe turn-in point, which had been his standard operating procedure during the previous races of the season.

Delayed braking. Fully exploiting the exit curbs to maximize the cornering angle. Yet, despite the aggression, Kai still absolutely refrained from pushing to the absolute, terrifying limit. He subtly reduced the steering angle, intentionally allowing the cornering arc to remain slightly wider and vastly fuller. This guaranteed he secured the massive mechanical grip required to perfectly stabilize the mid-corner rhythm. Furthermore, the exact microsecond he reached the exit phase, he slightly eased off the throttle, setting himself up to aggressively launch at full speed into Turn 2: Farm, a sweeping, high-speed left-hander.

Silky smooth. Flawless—Perfectly connected!

Previously, if he had been slightly too aggressive and impatient during the exit phase, applying the throttle a fraction of a second too early, the chassis would inevitably become unstable, resulting in catastrophic understeer. Now, the mechanical grip generated by the front tires was significantly more stable and vastly more uniform. This flawlessly maintained the overall dynamic stability of the chassis, ensuring he could confidently apply the throttle significantly earlier and violently accelerate sooner, achieving a vastly smoother, infinitely more connected trajectory between the corner exit and the subsequent straight.

From corner entry to corner exit, it was a flawless, single, unified motion. Successfully navigating the very first complex injected a massive, highly encouraging boost of confidence.

The very first DRS detection point at Silverstone was located right here. Because immediately following the Turn 3 and Turn 4 ’S-curve’ complex, the circuit violently transitioned into the high-speed Turn 5 and the subsequent massive straight. However, the defining, brutal characteristic of Silverstone was this: the low-to-medium-speed corners immediately preceding the high-speed push phases presented a massive, terrifying test of absolute control. It didn’t merely test the chassis’s ability to seamlessly transition; it ruthlessly tested the driver’s elite car control.

On the pit wall, Borreipaire involuntarily held his breath. His eyes were obsessively, unblinkingly locked onto the computer monitors. The braking curves, the tire temperature degradation slopes, and the massive array of highly complex telemetry lines interwove to create a spectacular, highly intricate visual tapestry.

The upcoming ’S-curve’ complex consisted of a medium-speed right-hander instantly followed by a brutal left-hand hairpin. During Free Practice 1, Kai explicitly intended to consciously, aggressively test the revised brake bias settings here.

And then, Kai completely abandoned the highly cautious, deeply conservative driving style he had been forced to utilize for the entire season thus far. The lethal sharpness and aggressive, flowing lines of his true driving style finally began to clearly materialize, radiating a blinding, spectacular light across the Silverstone circuit.

Clear. Precise. Decisive. Flawlessly calibrated.

Transitioning from high-speed, down to medium-speed, and finally plunging into low-speed. The exact microsecond he stomped on the brake pedal, Kai could viscerally, physically feel the hydraulic pressure instantly, firmly establishing itself beneath his foot.

Previously, during the terrifying cold-tire phase, the front axle’s response had always been agonizingly delayed by a critical half-beat. But now, the response was immediate. The control was hyper-precise. The nose of the chassis was significantly more eager, vastly more willing to aggressively dive toward the apex.

And so!

Turn 3: Village. He slightly delayed his braking point. He slightly delayed his initial steering input. He executed a shallow, highly calculated probe, meticulously feeling out the microscopic fluctuations in dynamic balance as he navigated the ’S-curve.’ The chassis responded exactly as if it were a physical extension of his own body. The tires absolutely did not squeal in protest. The steering remained perfectly compliant, completely devoid of understeer. He smoothly, flawlessly painted a complex, twisted trajectory, patiently waiting for the front axle temperatures to fully enter the optimal operating window.

Turn 4: The Loop. The hairpin. The name itself explicitly dictated that this specific corner demanded absolute, unwavering patience. If a driver became greedy and applied the throttle too early, the rear tires would inevitably violently break traction and spin wildly. If a driver was overly conservative, their exit momentum and subsequent speed down the straight would be catastrophically compromised. At this exact moment, the absolute requirement was—

A perfectly timed, feather-light tap of the throttle to rapidly re-establish traction. Then, exactly like flowing water, a gradual, progressive application of power. The steering wheel naturally, smoothly returned to center, flawlessly tracking the curvature of the corner to sketch a perfectly smooth, rounded arc. The load on the rear tires was firmly, securely established. The exact microsecond the chassis was completely straightened, he stomped the throttle.

Pinned entirely to the floor.

Before anyone could even blink, Turn 4 was completely left in his wake.

The race car transformed into a streak of pure light. Utilizing the microscopic short straight as a flawless transition, he vanished into Turn 5: Aintree. A high-speed curve taken entirely flat-out.

Whoosh—Whoosh—

The fierce wind howled. Sector 1 was already completely behind him.

”Front axle response is incredibly clean. We can afford to brake significantly later entering Village.” The feedback delivered over the radio was crisp, concise, and highly efficient. Kai provided the critical telemetry updates immediately.

Borreipaire had long since established a flawless, almost telepathic rhythm with him. ”Copy.”

Without a microsecond of delay, Borreipaire meticulously annotated the specific telemetry at the exact locations indicated.

The updated suspension geometry hadn’t magically transformed the SF90 into a hyper-aggressive, razor-sharp weapon. Instead, it had rendered the critical braking phase vastly more predictable. This essentially meant they were still required to accept significant risks. But now, those risks had been successfully corralled into a highly controlled, mathematically predictable parameter. The specific triggers required to safely unleash that performance, residing entirely within the driver’s control, were becoming glaringly obvious.

However, this was absolutely not the time to pop champagne and launch into massive, ecstatic celebrations. The operation had merely just successfully entered the correct trajectory. Absolutely everything remained an unknown variable. It required extensive, relentless testing. It required massive, highly complex recalibrations. Most importantly, the vastly upgraded chassis absolutely required time to adapt. It needed to adapt to the driver, and it needed to adapt to the circuit.

Therefore, while the massive crowds outside were screaming and cheering wildly, Borreipaire’s concentration was operating at 200% capacity. It felt exactly as though he had aggressively, violently severed his consciousness from every single external distraction. The entire universe had shrunk until it contained only him and Kai. They were exactly like two acrobats navigating a terrifyingly high tightrope, perfectly synchronized. Every single step, every single microscopic movement required absolute, flawless cooperation.

The communication was brief and incredibly rapid. Borreipaire’s attention instantly snapped back to the telemetry, obsessively monitoring the subsequent data stream.

If Sector 1 was the dramatic overture, then Sector 2 was the absolute, undisputed main body of Silverstone. It was simultaneously the absolute essence and the ultimate, defining soul of this specific circuit—

High-speed, incredibly fluid. A relentless, brutal sequence of rapid directional changes. It ruthlessly tested a chassis’s aerodynamic equilibrium and the driver’s ability to maintain a flawless, unbroken rhythm. It was incredibly exhilarating, yet terrifyingly demanding. The specific circuit design elements that had cemented Silverstone’s legendary, almost mythical status were almost entirely concentrated within this specific sector.

For the spectators, Sector 2 was undeniably the absolute most visually spectacular, highly entertaining portion of the track. But for the drivers, Sector 2 represented the absolute most grueling, terrifying crucible.

The soul of the circuit. It was a perfectly accurate description.

Turn 6: Brooklands. A sharp corner situated immediately following a long, high-speed straight. The braking zone is massive. It’s incredibly easy to carry too much speed and trail-brake too aggressively into the corner, inevitably resulting in a massive front lockup. It is a phenomenal overtaking zone, but simultaneously, it is a massive, high-risk trap where catastrophic errors occur constantly.

Turn 9: Copse. Although it features a significant runoff area, the entry speed is absolutely terrifying. A microscopic error here is disastrous. Over the past twenty years, this specific corner had undergone multiple, massive safety modifications. Yet, an endless roster of elite, legendary drivers had still encountered massive, terrifying difficulties here. In 1999, Michael Schumacher suffered a horrific crash here that shattered his leg, a catastrophic event that completely altered the trajectory of that year’s World Championship battle.

Immediately following that was Turn 10: Maggotts. Turn 12: Becketts. All the way through to Turn 14: Chapel. This was a legendary, continuous sequence of five high-speed corners. Relentless, violent changes in direction. Relentless, crushing G-forces. A relentless, agonizing cycle of massive compression and violent expansion. The rhythm felt exactly like a violently hammering heartbeat. The sheer speed and aggression made it feel as though Formula 1 cars were engaged in a terrifying, real-life game of Mario Kart.

Most importantly, exiting Chapel launched the cars directly onto the Hangar Straight. This was the absolute longest, fastest, most terrifying straight on the entire Silverstone circuit. Terminal velocity was aggressively pushed toward the absolute zenith of 340 km/h.

From the brutal, continuous high-speed corner complex directly into the absolute pinnacle of straight-line speed. This highly specific sequence of track design was universally revered as the absolute gold standard by countless professional racing drivers. Simultaneously, it was the exact reason amateur sim-racers were universally obsessed with Silverstone. The driver absolutely must locate the perfect, flawless rhythm amidst the violent, continuous corners. On one hand, they had to constantly, obsessively monitor the catastrophic degradation of their front tires. On the other hand, they had to precisely, flawlessly locate the exact optimal entry and exit points to ensure the momentum remained completely unbroken.

Classic, legendary moments were omnipresent here. If Silverstone was a massive symphony, Sector 2 was undoubtedly Beethoven’s ’Symphony of Destiny.’

The rhythm was exactly like a violently hammering drumbeat. The crushing G-forces were exactly like a raging hurricane.

Having just blasted through Copse (Turn 9), the throttle was pinned completely to the floor. The rear of the chassis suffered a microscopic, terrifying snap of oversteer, but it absolutely didn’t lose control. The massive, towering complex of continuous corners was already violently rushing up to meet him.

His body was violently, ruthlessly pinned against the racing seat by the six-point harness. He was completely immobilized. The muscles in his neck instantly, violently locked tight, straining against the crushing G-forces. Every single cell in his body was capable of clearly, viscerally experiencing the terrifying, magnetic allure of Silverstone—

The continuous, high-speed corners. This was the absolute, defining characteristic of Silverstone. Simultaneously, this was the exact, terrifying crucible where the SF90’s second massive upgrade package would be brutally tested.

Prior to the upgrades, the front axle’s reaction time was always agonizingly delayed. It felt exactly as though the chassis were hesitating, struggling to process the command. In the midst of rapid, high-speed directional changes, the driver was constantly forced to execute massive, frantic micro-corrections. This not only severely disrupted the crucial mid-corner rhythm, but it also caused the exit window to become terrifyingly narrow. There was virtually zero margin for error. Even when pushing the chassis to the absolute limit, it was highly probable they would still fail to extract the maximum theoretical speed.

But now!

Left.

Right.

Left.

Right.

The exact microsecond the steering wheel moved, the nose of the chassis instantly, violently tracked the input. There was zero delay. Zero hesitation. This meant that, following the upgrades, Kai was fully capable of carrying significantly more speed much deeper into the corner complex. It absolutely wasn’t about blindly chasing a faster lap time; it was entirely about maintaining absolute, flawless fluidity and unbroken momentum.

Rhythm. He absolutely had to keep that concept burned into his brain. At Silverstone, maintaining the correct rhythm was exponentially more critical than raw speed. Only by locking into the flawless rhythm could you successfully unlock the absolute pinnacle of speed.

Entering the mid-point of Becketts (Turn 12), Kai deliberately, highly calculatingly lifted off the throttle slightly. It absolutely wasn’t because his focus had wavered, or because he was physically incapable of continuing to push. It was a highly calculated maneuver explicitly designed to prevent the tire temperatures and brake core temperatures from simultaneously plunging into the catastrophic degradation zone. This guaranteed his subsequent push phase would remain significantly more stable. Yet, despite the lift, he was still capable of maintaining a vastly higher average speed throughout the complex. He didn’t need to sacrifice his crucial exit traction.

Rhythm absolutely did not mean aggressively pushing every single corner to the absolute, terrifying limit. It meant maintaining a perfectly uniform, flawlessly balanced flow throughout the entire lap. It meant utilizing your own breathing and heartbeat to viscerally feel the perfect, flawless synchronization between the asphalt and the machine.

Executing the final left-hander, blasting out of Chapel (Turn 14). Full throttle, pinned completely to the floor. That brilliant flash of red surged majestically onto the Hangar Straight with terrifying stability. The steering wheel required virtually zero microscopic corrections.

This was the very first time during the entire 2019 season that Kai genuinely, profoundly felt completely connected to the race car. Every single reaction, every single microscopic detail was not only direct and crystal clear, but also incredibly, brutally honest. Consequently, the undulating, undulating surface of the Silverstone asphalt flowing rapidly beneath his tires felt significantly sharper and vastly more nuanced. He could practically physically feel the microscopic vibrations radiating upward from the tarmac—

Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

Exactly like a perfectly calibrated metronome. Kai’s beating heart was actively, desperately attempting to listen to and perfectly synchronize with the rhythm of that metronome. The incredibly subtle, nuanced rhythm—precise down to a sixteenth of a beat—brushed lightly against his fingertips. It was so incredibly delicate, so faintly perceptible, yet simultaneously terrifyingly clear. In a fraction of a second, he was violently sucked directly into the chaotic, high-stakes world of ’Whiplash,’ aggressively exploring the terrifying, unpredictable unknown.

”The rear axle is coming up to temperature significantly slower than it did in Barcelona. I can confidently transfer a massive portion of the aerodynamic load from Sector 1 directly to this specific phase.” Kai instantly, rapidly relayed his visceral feedback.

Borreipaire kept his eyes completely, obsessively locked onto the data curves currently populating his monitor. The raw telemetry perfectly, flawlessly validated Kai’s physical sensation. ”Copy that!” Confidence was slowly, quietly, but undeniably building, block by block.

So, what about Sector 3?

Compared to the massive, explosive drama of the first two sectors, Sector 3 appeared significantly more understated.

It functioned exactly like an epilogue. It was responsible for concluding the lap and resetting the rhythm. The massive, chaotic noise slowly, methodically faded away. It even projected a highly subtle aura of gentleness. The true, terrifying test in this sector was entirely focused on meticulous tire management and maximizing exit traction.

Here, Club Corner (Turn 16) was undeniably the absolute focal point. Transitioning from the massive, high-speed straight directly into a sequence of medium-speed corners. Blasting in a single, fluid motion directly toward the final finish line.

Although it was essentially another sequence connecting a massive straight to a sharp right angle and subsequent curves... this time, Kai explicitly elected to utilize a fundamentally different analytical approach than he had deployed at Brooklands (Turn 6) and Copse (Turn 9)—

He massively delayed his braking point.

A genuine, terrifyingly extreme late-braking maneuver!

Because this was the absolute final, concluding phase of the lap. Qualifying and the Race required fundamentally different approaches. During the Race, they absolutely had to prioritize long-run consistency. But in Qualifying, this was the absolute final, desperate sprint. Kai absolutely needed to know exactly how far he could violently push this newly upgraded SF90 when operating entirely flat-out. He needed to find the absolute, terrifying limit.

Delay!

Delay it further!

Violently challenging the absolute limit—

The chassis... remained flawlessly stable. The downward pressure applied to the brake pedal was perfectly, flawlessly linear. The terrifying, catastrophic temperature lag that had plagued the middle and late stages of the braking phase in Austria completely failed to materialize. The highly complex brake migration mapping was functioning flawlessly.

The entire Ferrari pit wall held their breath, operating in a state of absolute, hyper-focused concentration. The only sound was the visceral, deafening roar of the engine continuously, violently hammering against their hearts. Their blood was boiling!

They were agonizingly waiting. Waiting for Kai’s final feedback. Waiting to see if the upgraded chassis had successfully survived its very first massive, terrifying crucible.

”The brake mapping is flawless.” Kai’s voice crackled crisply over the radio.

BOOM!

Profound joy instantly, violently erupted. Resta completely lost his battle for composure. He violently clenched both fists and aggressively pumped them into the air twice. A massive, completely uninhibited smile bloomed completely across his face.

Borreipaire maintained his expressionless, icy demeanor. He remained perfectly calm. ”Copy.”

He was utilizing every ounce of his willpower to maintain a flawless poker face, absolutely terrified of exposing their genuine, ecstatic emotions to their competitors. However, a microscopic, almost invisible detail betrayed him. The rigid tension in his jawline relaxed slightly. His heart was surging with massive, profound emotion.

Thump! Thump!

The force of his heart hammering against his ribs became increasingly powerful and terrifyingly rapid. A massive, electric shudder instantly shot from the soles of his feet directly to the top of his skull.

This specific data point meant they could operate with significantly more aggression during Qualifying.

Although the highly specific tactical details still required massive, intensive debate... perhaps, just perhaps, Ferrari...

Could manufacture a significantly more terrifying, lethal threat during Qualifying?
