Chapter 1230: Chapter 1230:- Old Emperor Steps up [III]

Freya had brought one hundred thousand trained soldiers from her Empire to support Aditya. These were not newly recruited troops. They were experienced soldiers who had trained together for years and understood how to follow orders without creating confusion.

With the addition of Freya’s troops and the armies sent by Aditya’s allies, Aditya now commanded close to one million soldiers.

However, gathering one million soldiers in one place did not automatically create a powerful army. Without a proper command structure, such an enormous force could easily collapse into complete chaos. One person could not directly control one million soldiers.

Even if Aditya gave an order, it would take too long for that order to reach every soldier. Different units might misunderstand it, move at the wrong time, or block one another while attempting to reach the same location. For that reason, the entire force needed to be divided into several smaller armies, with each army possessing its own commanders, officers, scouts, communication teams, healers, supply units, and reserve forces.

After discussing the matter, they decided to divide the main force into five Grand Armies. Each Grand Army would contain close to two hundred thousand soldiers and would be led by a Grand Commander. The Grand Commanders would answer directly to Aditya and Boris. They would receive the main objective from the central command and then decide how the troops under them should complete it.

Each Grand Army would be divided into four Army Corps containing approximately fifty thousand soldiers. Every Army Corps would be led by a Corps Commander who would report to the Grand Commander above him.

The Corps would then be divided into five Divisions of approximately ten thousand soldiers. Each Division would have its own commander, deputy commander, intelligence officer, supply officer, and communication officer.

A Division could operate independently for a limited period. It would possess infantry, cavalry, archers, mages, healers, scouts, and transport units. This meant it would not need to wait for the entire army before responding to smaller threats. Every Division would be separated into five Brigades of around two thousand soldiers.

This command structure would allow Aditya’s orders to travel downward without creating confusion. Aditya would give his orders to the five Grand Commanders. They would pass those orders to the Corps Commanders, who would then send them to the Divisions and Brigades under their control.

Information from the battlefield would travel upward through the same chain. A Brigade Commander would report enemy movements to the Division Commander. Important information would then pass through the Corps Commander and Grand Commander before reaching the central command.

This system would prevent Aditya and Boris from being overwhelmed by thousands of smaller reports. Only information that could influence the entire battle would be sent directly to them. Boris also insisted that no commander should control more forces than he could properly manage. Giving one person control over too many soldiers would slow down his decisions and increase the possibility of mistakes.

Every major section of the army would have a second-in-command. If a commander was injured, killed, or became unable to lead, his deputy would immediately take control. This would prevent an entire Brigade, Division, Corps, or Grand Army from becoming leaderless during the battle. Every officer would understand who would replace him before the fighting began.

Freya’s one hundred thousand soldiers would remain together as one of the most experienced forces in Aditya’s army. Her troops would be divided into two Corps of fifty thousand soldiers, but both Corps would remain under her direct command. Each Corps would contain several Divisions, while every Division would be separated into Brigades. Freya’s most trusted officers would be placed in command of those sections.

Freya already understood the strengths and weaknesses of her commanders. Separating her soldiers and placing them under unfamiliar leaders would damage the coordination they had developed over many years. Her troops would serve as one of Aditya’s main attacking forces.

If the enemy’s defensive line needed to be broken, Freya and her army would be sent forward. However, she would not be allowed to move entirely on her own. Freya would still report her position and plans to the central command so that the other Grand Armies could support her movements.

Athena proposed creating a central command headquarters several kilometres behind the main battlefield. Aditya, Boris, Athena, and the highest-ranking commanders would remain there unless Aditya personally needed to enter the battle.

The headquarters would constantly receive reports from scouts, spies, flying magical beasts, and communication artifacts. Large maps would be updated whenever either army changed its position. Different coloured markers would represent each Grand Army, Corps, and Division, allowing the central command to quickly understand which sections were advancing, defending, retreating, or waiting for new orders.

Special communication teams would be assigned to every Division. They would use magical communication devices to send orders and reports across long distances. However, Athena warned them not to depend on a single communication method.

If the enemy disrupted their magical devices, the army still needed another way to receive its orders. For that reason, trained messenger beasts and fast riders would remain available. Important commands would sometimes be sent through two different methods to make sure that at least one message reached its destination.

Boris also created a separate reserve force. Not every soldier would be sent to the front line at the beginning of the battle. Nearly one hundred thousand troops would remain behind the main armies. These soldiers could reinforce any position that began collapsing, respond to an unexpected attack, or replace exhausted forces.

The reserve army would also protect the central headquarters and the supply routes. If the enemy attempted to circle around the main battlefield, the reserve forces would be responsible for stopping them.

Another important section of the army would be responsible for logistics. An army of nearly one million soldiers required an unimaginable amount of food, clean water, weapons, medicine, armour, and other equipment every day. Fortunately, transporting these resources was much easier because of storage rings.

There was no need to use thousands of wagons or establish massive storage camps behind the battlefield. Food, water, spare weapons, armour, medicine, tents, and other important resources could be stored safely inside storage rings and transported without slowing down the army.

However, all the supplies would not be kept with Aditya or Boris. If either of them became separated from the army, trapped by the enemy, or forced to enter a dangerous battle, the soldiers might lose access to everything they needed.

Instead, every Division would have its own supply troops. These soldiers would carry storage rings containing enough resources to support their Division for a fixed period. The Division Commander and supply officers would carefully record everything stored inside the rings and control how those resources were distributed.

The storage rings would also be divided between several trusted supply officers. One person would never be allowed to carry all the food, weapons, or medicine belonging to an entire Division. If one supply officer was killed, captured, or separated from the army, the Division would still have access to the rings carried by the others.

Each Division would therefore be able to move and fight independently without constantly depending on the central command for food and equipment. When its supplies began running low, the supply officers would report the exact amount remaining and request replacement storage rings from the reserve forces.

This system would make the army faster and more flexible. However, the supply troops would still need heavy protection. If the enemy learned who carried the storage rings and managed to capture them, an entire Division could lose a large part of its resources without a single storage camp being attacked.

If one camp was attacked or destroyed, the entire army would not immediately lose access to its food and equipment. The other storage camps would continue supplying the troops until the lost resources could be replaced. Each Grand Army would receive supplies from the camps closest to its location, while the Corps and Division commanders would inform the central command about what their soldiers needed.

Healers would be divided between the front line and the medical camps behind it. Combat healers would treat serious injuries near the battlefield, while wounded soldiers would later be transported to larger treatment areas.

Athena recommended creating clear roads for transporting the injured. Those roads needed to remain separate from the routes used by reinforcements and supply wagons. Otherwise, wounded soldiers, supplies, and advancing troops might block one another during the most important moments of the battle.

Scouting forces would move several kilometres ahead of every Grand Army. Their responsibility was not to fight the enemy. They needed to locate enemy forces, discover traps, study the land, and report any unusual movement.

If they encountered a powerful enemy force, they were expected to retreat and deliver the information rather than risk their lives in an unnecessary fight. Fast cavalry and flying forces would protect both sides of the army, preventing the enemy from surrounding the main force or attacking the supply routes from behind.

The mages would also be separated according to their abilities. Offensive mages would support the front line, defensive mages would create barriers, and support mages would strengthen allied soldiers or weaken the enemy.

The strongest mages would not be gathered in one place because Athena believed that doing so would make them an obvious target. Instead, they would be distributed among the five Grand Armies, ensuring that every section of Aditya’s forces possessed enough magical strength to protect itself.

Freya agreed with most of the command structure, but she insisted that the commanders needed some freedom to make their own decisions. ”A battlefield can change within seconds,”

”A commander cannot wait for Aditya’s permission every time the enemy does something unexpected. If we control them too strictly, our own command structure will become our weakness.”

Athena nodded in agreement. ”The central command should decide the main objective. The commanders on the battlefield should decide how to reach it.”

Boris considered their words before making another adjustment to the plan. Every Grand Commander would receive a clear objective, a specific area of responsibility, and a list of actions that required Aditya’s direct permission.

The Grand Commanders could change their formations, move the Corps and Divisions under their control, and respond to nearby threats on their own. The Corps and Division commanders would possess the same freedom within their assigned areas, while Brigade Commanders could make immediate decisions when protecting their soldiers or responding to sudden attacks.

However, none of them could abandon their assigned region, begin a large attack, or move a major part of the army without informing the central command.

Really, thank you very much to all those who sent support with valuable golden tickets and gifts. I hope we can keep it up!!!
