Chapter 395: Chapter 395: Placed Under House Arrest

Instead of killing Lin Yun, Mo Qingshui grabbed him and flew toward the Mo Family estate. In Jincheng, no one dared to stop the Mo Family from doing as they pleased.

She brought Lin Yun all the way back to the Mo Family’s main hall. Setting him down, Mo Qingshui said with a cold expression, ”You will live here at the Mo Family estate from now on. The day you withdraw from Flawless Palace is the day I’ll grant you your freedom.”

’What the hell? She’s putting me under house arrest!’ Lin Yun thought. Aloud, he said, ”My master will definitely come to save me.”

”And who might your master be?” Unimpressed, Mo Qingshui asked. The Mo Family had the backing of the Wuji Sect; they had no reason to fear Flawless Palace.

”My master is Luo Feng, of course,” Lin Yun replied. ”Didn’t I already say? I came here on a special trip to wish you a happy birthday.”

In truth, Luo Feng wasn’t his master yet. He only said so to confirm his own suspicions and to try and bait Mo Qingshui into revealing something.

Just as he’d expected, Mo Qingshui’s expression shifted the moment she heard Luo Feng was his master. Her gaze on Lin Yun grew complicated, and a flicker of fondness even crossed her eyes. Though it vanished in an instant, Lin Yun caught it.

’So it’s true. Another one of that scoundrel’s romantic debts.’ Mo Qingshui’s reaction only confirmed Lin Yun’s suspicions.

Upon learning Lin Yun was Luo Feng’s disciple, Mo Qingshui felt a glimmer of fondness for him. ’If it weren’t for Bai Ling, Luo Feng would never have left me. In that case, I would be his master’s wife right now,’ she thought.

Coupled with Lin Yun’s obvious talent, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride at the thought of having such a disciple. But alas, she and Luo Feng were no longer together.

The change in her expression was fleeting. Mo Qingshui quickly resumed her cold demeanor, summoning two Primordial Ocean Realm guards and ordering Shi Wu to monitor Lin Yun’s every move, day and night.

Mo Qingshui added a special caveat, however. As long as Lin Yun didn’t try to escape, they were to grant his requests whenever possible and were forbidden from treating him rudely.

Though he didn’t understand Mo Qingshui’s actions—it was tantamount to keeping Lin Yun as a pampered guest—Shi Wu didn’t dare to question her. He replied respectfully and led Lin Yun away from the main hall.

After Lin Yun and his escort departed, Mo Qingshui was left alone in the main hall. A look of intertwined hatred and longing filled her eyes as she muttered to herself.

”Luo Feng, you were the one who wronged me first. I won’t let you take back such a fine disciple so easily. If you want Lin Yun, you’ll have to come to Jincheng and ask me for him yourself.”

And so, Lin Yun was placed under house arrest by Mo Qingshui. While she granted most of his requests and even assigned servants to wait on him, he was forbidden from taking even a single step outside the Mo Family estate.

’Has this woman been driven mad by love?’ Lin Yun sat gloomily on a stone bench in the courtyard. Mo Qingshui had even prepared a private, beautifully landscaped courtyard just for him.

But no matter how beautiful the scenery, Lin Yun was in no mood to appreciate it. Three days had passed, and Mo Qingshui hadn’t visited him once. She’d only left Shi Wu to stand guard day and night.

Lin Yun went over the details of why Luo Feng had sent him to Jincheng. He was sure Luo Feng had hidden the truth about his past with Mo Qingshui, but it never occurred to him that this might be a test.

”’Only five days until Mo Qingshui’s birthday,’ Lin Yun muttered, ’I have to think of a way. Damn you, Luo Feng, leaving me to clean up the mess from your love life. What kind of Palace Master are you?’”

’To break this stalemate, I first need to deal with Mo Qingshui. And to deal with her, I have to find out what happened between her and Luo Feng.’

That evening, Lin Yun asked the maid Mo Qingshui had assigned him to prepare a spread of fine dishes and a bottle of good wine. He then went to the courtyard gate, where he found Shi Wu.

”Brother Shi Wu, come have a drink with me. It’s pretty boring being all alone,” he said.

Shi Wu didn’t object to the invitation. He already had a good impression of Lin Yun and was more than willing to befriend such an outstanding young man.

Inside the room was a table laden with exquisite dishes and a flask of the finest wine. The two men immediately began to drink.

”Haha! Little brother Lin Yun, I may be much older than you, but I find your company very enjoyable,” Shi Wu boomed after a few cups. ”From now on, let’s just call each other brothers. No need to stand on ceremony with me.”

”In that case, it’d be rude of me to refuse! Brother Shi Wu, come on, let’s toast to our new brotherhood!” With that, they both drained their cups.

Setting down his cup, Lin Yun asked as if making small talk, ”Brother Shi Wu, I wonder... what’s the story between Miss Mo and my master? Why does she resent him so much?”

”Shhh...” Shi Wu put a finger to his lips. ”Brother Lin Yun, you can’t just say things like that. Miss Mo hates it when anyone brings up her and Luo Feng.”

Seeing his reaction, Lin Yun just smiled. ”Ah, is that so? My mistake, my mistake. I’ll pour myself a penalty drink.”

They drank from dusk late into the night. By now, Shi Wu was slightly tipsy. With Lin Yun deliberately steering the conversation, their topic once again returned to Luo Feng and Mo Qingshui.

Slightly buzzed, Shi Wu finally started talking about Mo Qingshui and Luo Feng. He didn’t know all the details, just the general outline of what had happened.

According to Shi Wu, Luo Feng and Mo Qingshui had once been a couple that was the envy of everyone. Mo Qingshui, in particular, was said to have loved Luo Feng to the very marrow of her bones.

However, as Mo Qingshui grew older and reached a marriageable age, the Mo Family’s Ancestor, who thought very highly of Luo Feng, prepared to arrange their wedding.

But who would have known? While Luo Feng was a womanizer, he was also fiercely loyal to each of his women in his own way. Marrying Mo Qingshui would have meant giving up the others, and Luo Feng refused.

When Luo Feng rejected the marriage, the Mo Family Ancestor flew into a rage. Mo Qingshui was heartbroken. To make matters worse, Bai Ling herself came to Jincheng, right to the Mo Family’s doorstep, and took Luo Feng away in front of both the Ancestor and Mo Qingshui.

Shi Wu had been there that day. He recalled that the Mo Family Ancestor and Luo Feng were on the verge of coming to blows when Mo Qingshui threw herself between them.

He remembered that at the very end, Mo Qingshui had asked Luo Feng just one question: was he refusing to marry her because of Bai Ling? But Luo Feng said nothing at all. He simply took Bai Ling and left Jincheng.

From that day on, Mo Qingshui and Luo Feng never saw each other again. And both she and the Mo Family grew to resent not only Luo Feng, but Flawless Palace as a whole.

After hearing Shi Wu’s account, Lin Yun had a much clearer picture of what had happened between Mo Qingshui and Luo Feng. His mind immediately started working on a way to resolve his current predicament.
