Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 449: Chapter 288: What You Say Doesn’t Count

With a sharp whistle, the soldiers urgently assembled.

More than a dozen officers had a thin layer of sweat on their foreheads, their faces tense and somber, looking alarming.

Members of the combat team, dressed in black, coldly took over the Corps’ guard duties.

Inside the train.

The secretary, wearing a gray pencil skirt, pushed open the conductor’s door, her gray-blue eyes ablaze, sharp and fierce.

As the conductor looked up, she said.

”An hour ago, two deserters left the train.”

”Deserters?”

Su Huan was momentarily stunned.

There was still a document about the investigation of Armed Corps officers on the table, pending official approval.

...

Su Huan looked at the sun in the sky, hot and glaring.

Rows of soldiers stood tightly aligned under the sun, like healthy cornstalks.

One wondered why those two fools chose the time they did; in his past life, he had purposely chosen a pitch-black rainy night, even knowing to use the flood to cover his tracks, though he still didn’t get away.

But in this bright sunlight, should he send someone after them or not?

Mountain Goat, Qu Hang, and other officers stood at attention, ignoring Licking Rabbit, who was gloating and winking at them.

Recently, at a meeting, he was transferred to the service team, so today’s incident let him slip away.

Su Huan circled around more than five hundred people.

Within them were untrained new recruits and those who had just recovered from injuries and returned to the ranks.

The originally uninitiated crowd, upon experiencing the terrifying magnetic field of the conductor up close, had their hearts skip a beat and realized something had happened.

Su Huan finally stood in the midst of a group of officers.

Old Wu’s dark face turned faintly pale as the train conductor stopped right in front of him.

”Not enough people.”

Su Huan said lightly.

Standing at the front, Mountain Goat’s scalp tingled, and it was as if a faucet had opened on his forehead, sweat streaming down.

Standing at the back, Giraffe rolled his eyes, turned, and left.

Soon, Liang Kuan, Yu Yue, and others joined the group, expressions heavy.

Confronted with a clearly expanded team, Su Huan did not react, merely repeating, ”Not enough people.”

Three minutes later, He Jie, his upper body wrapped in bands, led a group of wounded men over.

”Conductor, He Jie requests to rejoin the ranks!”

The loud sound waves resonated in everyone’s chest, slightly warming hearts that had hit rock bottom.

He Jie might have had various faults, a short temper, smoking and drinking, but he genuinely protected his own.

Su Huan turned his head, seeing He Jie with a cigar clenched in his teeth and his right hand on his shoulder, eyes showing a hint of disdain.

”Why aren’t you taking good care of your wounds instead of running around?”

Hearing that Su Huan did not refuse his request to rejoin, He Jie waved a big hand for the injured soldiers behind him to return to the ranks, then naturally walked to stand beside Su Huan.

The mischievous look on his face instantly turned fierce and violent when facing the Corps.

”Mountain Goat!”

”Here!”

Mountain Goat shivered before stepping out.

Though startled by He Jie, frankly, this familiar feeling was far more tolerable than the conductor’s oppressive presence.

He Jie took a deep drag of his cigar, poked Mountain Goat’s chest with a thick finger.

”I was out for only two days, and I heard you lost two during training?”

Mountain Goat’s cheeks puffed up, as if gritting his teeth in determination.

”Yes.”

”Boom!”

Before anyone could react, Mountain Goat and the person behind him, Pang Tu, were already sent flying, knocking over four or five soldiers.

”Get up.”

He Jie’s face turned fierce.

The trouble caused by Black Kite wasn’t even accounted for with the conductor, and now, two deserters popped up!

In the medical carriage, upon hearing this news, He Jie felt as if the sky was collapsing.

It’s not that no one has gotten off the Armed Train before.

But since the train rules became more formal, no one had escaped secretly. As long as you spoke to the conductor, you not only could leave safely but could keep your Armed Train identity, and if the conductor was in a good mood, he might even give you some supplies.

Last time the Corps had a soldier wishing to leave, he didn’t want to approve it, but the conductor generously let them go.

Both dignity and face were given.

But today was different.

Two people just ran off!

Even people from the service team knew to speak up; how could two soldiers from the troop he personally led, known for strict discipline, run off without a sound!

This was basically stamping on He Jie’s face under their shoes!

Hearing the scolding, Mountain Goat staggered, wanting to get up, but like someone who had drunk fake wine, everything went black, and he fell flat on the ground.

With his Tier One Evolver physique, he shouldn’t have remained down after just one kick.

Seeing He Jie about to advance further, a Fossa in the crowd slightly furrowed his brows.

He reported firmly, ”The deserters were due to Old Wu’s abuse of new recruits, unrelated to Lieutenant Mountain Goat.”

He Jie quickly turned his head, first sweeping his eyes over Fossa’s face, then his fierce gaze seemed to plant roots into Old Wu’s.

This short man felt bizarre looks from colleagues around him landing, one after another, upon him; in his heart, he had already cursed Fossa’s ancestors to the eighth generation.

Seeing Su Huan’s half-smiling gaze, his throat constricted, unable to say a word.

Suppressing the urge to turn and flee.

He Jie strode over like a rampaging black bear, strength accumulating to its peak, but abruptly halted when the tall figure with long hair appeared before him.

Su Huan stood his ground, head turned back like a wolf; he smiled with narrowed eyes, saying, ”Don’t rush, let me hear what they have to say.”

He Jie’s momentum stalled, gradually dissipating.

He glared somberly at Old Wu in front of him.
