Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 439: Chapter 283: Promotion and Rank Advancement

If it were so easy for ordinary people to switch specialties, the term ”genius” wouldn’t exist.

An ordinary doctor, without taking any shortcuts and without wasting time, is about twenty-two years old by the time they graduate from a five-year undergraduate program. If they pursue a professional master’s degree, with effort, they can simultaneously complete their residency training. If they opt for an academic master’s degree, add another three years for residency training, and by this time, they are about twenty-eight.

After working for a year, they can take the exam for the attending physician qualification.

So, essentially, a doctor is truly ready to be fully utilized by the time they are thirty years old.

Even in such extreme post-apocalyptic circumstances, setting aside those systematic courses and compressing the study time, it still takes more than one or two years to train a mature doctor.

Moreover, the result might not necessarily be stronger than Lin Xia.

If the discontinuity in civilization caused by the apocalypse were that easy to overcome, it wouldn’t be called an apocalypse.

In this respect, Su Huan has deeper insight than anyone.

If not for the vigorous vitality brought by evolution, the speed of human extinction would be even faster.

”Gradually fill in the gaps in healthcare. Pay attention daily, and whoever recommends a medical talent first will have their salary doubled this month.”

Su Huan ended this temporarily unresolved discussion.

Shu Wei saw the atmosphere was about right and immediately took over to host the meeting.

”The first item on tonight’s agenda is regarding post-battle rewards, punishments, and personnel promotions. The list is already on the table; everyone has one. Read through it, and if there are any objections, state them openly. Feel free to discuss without any speaking order.”

Because Su Huan dislikes formalities, the makeshift dining car meeting has grown from a handful of people to dozens.

People were already aware of the promotions and penalties each time after a major battle.

After each major battle, there is always a significant personnel gap or adjustments to the system.

However, the specific list has always been decided by the train conductor alone.

Now that there are more train personnel and administrative affairs have doubled, these matters have only recently been documented on paper files.

”Eh?”

Vice President Deng suddenly made a surprised sound and nudged his longtime partner, the factory director, with his elbow.

”You’re on the list too.”

Among a few old men, the factory director is also the oldest, being over eighty years old, so Vice President Deng, who is younger, handles most day-to-day affairs. Initially, he was just there to contribute to the numbers, but unexpectedly heard his name on the list and immediately took the list to read carefully in surprise.

After skipping a large section on the promotion of ranks within the Armed Corps, the factory director quickly found his name on the management dispatch list.

Deputy Conductor of the Research Group.

Before he had time to be surprised, he noticed that Vice President Deng, who had been right after his name, had disappeared and reappeared behind a department called the Pan Energy Weapons Lab.

”What is this...”

The old man looked around at others bewilderedly and found that many people also wore expressions of surprise.

Everyone spontaneously looked towards the train conductor.

”Originally, there was no division between chief and deputy conductors, but it causes trouble in management, so we’re readjusting now.”

Su Huan pressed the bridge of his nose with his index finger.

The proposal to distinguish chief and deputy conductors was put forward by Shu Wei. The reason was simple: the train needs a clear and strict hierarchy, or else it would be too late if there were unclear duties during dispatching in the future.

He found it very reasonable.

This time, the Armed Corps suffered such heavy losses, not only because the soldiers had little combat experience and the Black Kite Special Service had good equipment, but the chaotic dispatching was primarily to blame.

Shu Wei explained the situation.

”The four-group, eight-conductor system remains unchanged. However, each group will only have one chief conductor, while the other will be the deputy. The treatment is equal, but in wartime, the chief conductor will take precedence.”

”I’ll repeat the list of the four-group conductors.”

”Logistics Group: Nonsense, Su Reya.”

”Manufacturing Group: Wan Xing, Old Jiang.”

”Combat Group: Lao San, Licking Rabbit.”

”Research Group: Xiaozhao, Factory Director.”

”Among them, the positions of Su Reya and Old Jiang are to be determined, but their compensation remains unchanged.”

Hearing this list of names, everyone, whether newcomers or veterans, was left with complex expressions.

Everyone had some contact with Su Reya, who had been a Tier One Evolver of Black Kite captured before Shu Wei.

Since she was always following Nonsense, and with the vacancy for a position as conductor of the logistics group, people vaguely speculated, so it wasn’t surprising.

But the name Old Jiang left many people stunned.

Previously, the two conductors of the manufacturing group were Vice President Deng and the Boss. Both their seniority and contributions were unshakable. The three brothers took three important positions due to their merits, and nobody thought the Boss could be replaced.

By a newcomer who had never even appeared in any train meeting before.

”Who is Old Jiang?”

Someone suddenly asked.

A middle-aged man about thirty raised his hand at the end.

Everyone turned to look at him. The man appeared unremarkable, lacking exaggerated muscles or a unique aura, somewhat handsome, with eyes reflecting a hint of world-weariness, which might deceive some girls in their early twenties...

But... who sitting here looks truly ugly?

Even He Jie, with his bear-like appearance, becomes a suave gentleman when he manages his expressions well.

The more times they evolved, the better they looked.

In other words, Old Jiang, placed here, was just an average middle-aged man.

Director Xu, seeing it was him, exchanged a ”just as expected” look with Professor Ma.

Old Jiang was the Black Kite personnel, a Tier One gatherer, and an expert in materials, captured on the water with Shu Wei at the time. After boarding the train, he’d been handling some material extraction tasks within the manufacturing group, but nobody knew what achievements he had accomplished.

Maybe only Nonsense knew a bit about it.
