Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 147: Chapter 134: The Good News Isn’t a Daughter

Su Huan was positioned outside the second-floor wall.

Peering along the iron railing into the hallway, there was an elderly zombie maintaining its habits from when it was alive, wandering about. As if it heard something, it moved closer to the railing, its red-black eyes glancing outside.

The acid rain masked Su Huan’s scent, and the suction cups on his exoskeleton allowed him to walk silently.

The elderly zombie looked for a long time without noticing Su Huan on the load-bearing pillar’s wall beside it.

Even though these ordinary zombies were very weak, having those eyes fixed on you was uncomfortable.

Su Huan flicked his finger, launching a high-temperature bullet, sending the elder away.

He continued to walk upwards, unhurried.

Qu Hang had already noticed him, but did not attack proactively.

Based on his understanding of his old superior, that shot not only seriously injured him but also severely affected his combat ability, making it difficult to deliver a fatal blow.

Faint footsteps were heard.

Yu Yue once again expanded the sound source range around Qu Hang, creating a three-dimensional, spatial sound that appeared in the ears of the surrounding few.

It felt as if they were watching him retreat along the hallway edge, clinging to the wall.

And the direction was exactly——

The staircase where He Jie was climbing!

Through the sounds, Su Huan imagined the scene below.

A pallid-faced Qu Hang stood at the top of the stairs, his tactical vest open at the front, the white bandages wrapped around him stained red, holding a sniper rifle, and below him was He Jie, holding a machine gun in one hand, walking up step by step, each step steady and heavy like a huge drum, the gun’s muzzle aimed at the cigar held in his mouth.

”Bang bang bang——”

A triple burst, shortening the cigar slightly, but lighting it successfully.

Thick smoke billowed from his mouth, covering his scruffy face, with only a hint of those exposed white teeth visible.

”I won’t tell the company about your affair.”

Qu Hang’s voice carried a hint of gravity.

”My affair? No, no, no, buddy, you seem to have misunderstood the situation.” He Jie pulled the bolt, enthusiastically. ”After all, we were colleagues once, it’s just a pity I never got to cooperate with you, but today you hit the jackpot!”

”Don’t say I didn’t give you a chance, my gun has one hundred bullets, I just fired three, so ninety-seven are left. If you turn around now and run from this end of the hallway to that end, and if I miss with all ninety-seven shots, I’ll wash the conductor’s socks for a month and beg him to let you go!”

When Su Huan tore open the railing and entered the fourth-floor hallway, he just saw the back of Qu Hang move slightly.

Then, he turned, and dashed away!

Even when he saw Su Huan beside him, his pupils only shrank slightly as he sidestepped into a household.

Behind him was the snarling, machine-gun-wielding He Jie.

The furious rain of bullets fully showcased his suppressed rage, unleashed towards the fleeing Qu Hang.

Su Huan quietly moved to the side.

He feared He Jie might spray bullets his way while trying to shoot rabbits among the grass.

However, He Jie, despite appearing crazy, maintained extremely stable control, with every bullet grazing past Qu Hang—just slow down a little, and he’d be shot dead, but now it was just barely avoiding his body.

This had to be a testament to He Jie’s precise control.

Yet Qu Hang’s injuries clearly affected his movements, as the final shot obviously hit him.

’Ninety-seven shots, two hits; is this father-in-law’s love?’

Seeing that He Jie had almost vented his anger, Su Huan jumped down, stood at the doorway, and casually tossed two grenades inside.

Listening to the explosion and muffled groans from inside, he tossed two more.

”Boom boom——”

Dust flew up, smoke shrouded.

When it became silent inside, Su Huan planned to toss two more to hear the echo.

Anyway, he didn’t need to carry guns or ammunition, so he carried over a dozen grenades.

This swift action made He Jie’s eyelid twitch uncontrollably, even making him suspect he hadn’t gone hard enough before.

Was Su Huan really going to kill this kid?

”I surrender! Stop throwing!”

Qu Hang’s hoarse shout came from inside.

Outside, the two exchanged a glance, Su Huan gave He Jie a smiley emoji, clearly indicating, ’What are you waiting for? Go in!’

He Jie could only curse under his breath and head inside.

Su Huan only entered after ensuring Qu Hang no longer had any fighting spirit.

Qu Hang inside the room was quite tragic, lying behind a sofa, in addition to the original gun wounds, several fragments cut through him, he was coughing up blood.

It should be the penetrating wound on his chest acting up.

There was an air of impending death.

Su Huan squinted, he had no real grudge against this old superior.

They didn’t talk much over the years he followed him; he wasn’t cared for, but neither was he wronged.

However, after he betrayed the company, the first pursuit he faced was from Qu Hang.

The easier it usually was following behind him, the more he wanted to die during that time of torment.

That four days and two nights ordeal suffering from the Evolution Beast’s hunger was his doing.

So those grenades carried some emotion.

If Qu Hang got killed by them, it would truly be karma.

But Su Huan was even more eager to know who wanted him dead, and for what reason.

Sadly, Qu Hang knew nothing about it now.

But it would soon come to light, Su Huan reassured himself, patting the old superior’s shoulder, ”Don’t worry, I have inherited ancient Western medicine from hundreds of years ago, these are just mere scratches.”

His wound twinged, Qu Hang groaned, but a trace of doubt flashed through his eyes.

’Ancient Western medicine from hundreds of years ago?’

Next to him, He Jie gave no answer, instead rummaging meticulously through his equipment for something.

Unease churned within Qu Hang’s heart.

How did He Jie become so strange after just a few days on the armed train?

Su Huan glanced over at He Jie as well.

He watched as the cigarette in the man’s mouth suddenly stopped moving, then shortened at a speed visible to the naked eye.

”Roar, did he really find that photo?”

Su Huan’s eyes flashed with a look of anticipation for a good show.

...

The helicopter rotors thundered, but Li Tao’s handwriting remained incredibly steady.

The previously blank notebook was now filled with thick records.

And it was simply divided into several sections.

[Train]

”It has multiple layers of armor, capable of withstanding heavy sniper bullets, ordinary rifle bullets are completely ineffective...”

”The body is extremely heavy, presumed to withstand low-dose explosives...”

[Members]

”Train captain Su Huan, Power Supplier, Tier One of unknown profession, frequently uses high temperature and electrical energy, the former requires time to accumulate, the latter can be instantly used, has large area control skills, generally does not wear bulletproof vests, using only an electromagnetic sniper rifle, firing range is three to five kilometers! Cautious personality, suspected of having special bulletproof methods...”

”Unknown Steel Manipulator, Tier One unknown profession...”

”The captain’s personal female sniper, Sound Manipulator, unknown profession...”

”Betrayer He Jie...”

[Combat Strategy]

”Team-based combat with Evolver as the core, train used as a mobile fortress and logistics, large reserves of supplies on the train...”

After finishing writing, Li Tao touched the frame of his glasses, and the camera on the glasses captured and saved the text on the notebook, then extracted the text and reformatted it into a clear report.

Seeing all the data was backed up multiple times, when he looked up again, Li Tao felt no attachment to the battlefield below.

Even though more than ten elite soldiers had just fallen here.

The dead need not be attended to, the living will naturally return to the company alive.

As an analyst, the most important task for him now is to bring all the intelligence about the armed train back to the company, back to the board, back to his uncle.

This is the only hope for the Li Family to turn the tables.

”Immediate return!”

”To the New City or Headquarters?”

”...Headquarters!”

...

The armed train had over two hundred fewer passengers, but it gained two new talents.

Mountain Goat completely shelved all small thoughts after seeing Qu Hang’s miserable state.

The photo was finally flipped, and it was just as blurry as when Su Huan first saw it, unrecognizable, but it could be seen that it was a girl in a polka dot dress, a bit retro, and a bit young.

The good news is that the woman in the photo is not He Jie’s daughter.

The bad news is it’s He Jie’s wife.

Qu Hang, who was severely injured, was almost beaten to death on the spot by an enraged He Jie.

Su Huan was slightly caught off guard by this twist, but with one man severely injured and dying, and the other raging like a bear whose home was stolen, the captain could only suppress the fiery gossip in his heart to lead everyone and catch up with the train that just arrived at the next station.

Climbing aboard the train, discarding clothes soaked in Acid Rain.

Su Huan felt like he had entered a safe house, as if all the battles and schemes were happening in another world.

However, such quiet times were scarce.

In two hours, they would face the fully armed Steel Council.

Watching the scenery move outside the window, he casually combed his wet hair, changed into a black long-sleeved shirt, and headed for the carriages.

Yu Jing was fiddling with a screen in the dining car and said when she heard Su Huan’s footsteps, ”How’s the exoskeleton, any issues?”

Su Huan shook his head, ”Unexpectedly handy, the key is it’s very snug, as long as you wear a slightly loose outfit, it’s barely noticeable. Future exoskeleton development should prioritize flexibility and lightness.”

Yu Jing’s eyes flashed with contemplation, ”Can be divided into different types, any other suggestions? Like adding a power-assisted jumping device.”

”Possible, but in the short term, it’s not very significant, Evolvers already have high physical stamina, the slight spring force added by machines would just waste more weight.”

Yu Jing furrowed her eyebrows, ”That’s true, the cost-performance ratio is rather low, then consider flight capabilities.”

”Focus on protection first.”

Su Huan reminded.

”Okay.”

”How are the injured?”

”They’re undergoing Lin Xia’s centuries-old ancient Western medical methods, using extensive bloodletting to achieve anesthetic and pain relief effects, bullets have been extracted, and two are being stitched and bandaged.”

Yu Jing pulled up the surveillance footage for car No. 9 and said blandly.

She wrinkled her exquisite nose unnaturally, the entire car No. 9 was filled with the stench of blood, making her a bit nauseous, which is why she came to the dining car.

Su Huan glanced at the surveillance, Qu Hang’s hands and feet were tied to the bed, beside him were a small respirator and heart rate monitor, hanging IV drips, next to him was the twice-wounded Lu Xiao, apart from not being tied up, he wasn’t in much better shape than Qu Hang.

Seeing the two had already fallen asleep peacefully, Su Huan hesitated, ”Is it better to set the medical car in car No. 9, or would it be more appropriate to set it in the rear?”

Yu Jing sighed softly, ”Don’t you think the urgent need is to find a reliable doctor?”

Su Huan pinched his chin, looked at Lin Xia busy in the footage, ”Isn’t this progress?”

”Then it would be better to rely on Wan Xing, she has progressed even more.”

An image of a gentle-looking woman wielding an electric saw to dissect a body flashed through his mind, her delicate jaw splattered with crimson flesh and blood, and even Su Huan was silent for a moment.

If training a doctor oneself isn’t reliable, they’ll have to steal one instead.

If someone asks where the best doctors are in the Acid Rain Zone now, Su Huan doesn’t know.

But the Steel Council must have top-tier doctors!

”Tell me about the train’s damage, and what happened on the train during the time I just went out.”
