Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 139: Chapter 127: Cannon Fodder? I Have Some Too_2

Occasionally, a pair of cautious eyes peered out, observing the situation outside.

Seeing Su Huan walking straight up, Lao San felt a bit anxious, ”Captain, they have snipers!”

Su Huan nonchalantly waved his hand, ”They can’t penetrate the armor, I’m just here to remind you all...”

Before he finished speaking, a series of crackling sounds hit the train’s armor.

Various bullets struck the train’s body like a torrential rain. Looking out through the windows, a large group of Servant Soldiers holding old-fashioned rifles appeared on both sides of the tracks, using infantry fighting vehicles and buildings to shoot at the train on the tracks.

They were dressed in various outfits, clearly the survivors the Steel Council had taken in during this period.

Because the train was advancing very slowly to clear mines and was large, bullets rarely missed.

But after a while, the Servant Soldiers realized something was wrong.

”Why is this iron shell so thick? The bullets just leave white marks on it.”

”Idiot, aim for the windows, aim for the windows!”

”You’re the idiot! The windows are bulletproof too. That hole up there was made by a heavy sniper, it’s got nothing to do with us!”

”The heavy machine gun on the roof is turning, huh? Huh?! Huh?!!!”

”That’s an anti-aircraft machine gun, used for shooting planes, run!”

”Boom boom boom—”

He Jie’s muzzle was merciless. He stood atop the train’s engine, over five meters high. Against the Servant Army, it was no longer firing horizontally but shooting downward!

A proper execution-style shooting!

Hot shell casings bounced wildly, piling up thickly on the deck, but they couldn’t burn He Jie’s thick skin.

Wherever the bullet rain passed, waves of blood splattered. Various severed limbs became unrecognizable, exploded into blurry masses of flesh, mixed with the dust.

The so-called armored personnel carriers were mere toys before the anti-aircraft machine gun, taking just three to five seconds before they exploded with a deafening bang.

The wails of the Servant Army were drowned out in the Iron Rain.

He Jie squinted, the cigar in his mouth burning to the end, the smoke mixing with the gunpowder fumes.

Each bullet found its suitable target, with almost no waste.

Under level 2’s ”Ballistic Correction,” ordinary people had no chance to dodge.

They couldn’t even feel the pain before bidding goodbye to the bodies they’d lived in for years.

In just an instant, five hundred Servant Soldiers were broken by him alone.

Directly, there were over a hundred deaths and over a hundred serious injuries.

Life, under gunfire, was merely a rapidly dwindling number.

And the rest began to face the zombies and Evolution Beasts pouring in from all directions.

It’s important to remember that this war involves not just humans, but also those predators watching hungrily around!

The train’s speed grew slower and slower when a report soon came from the driver’s cab to Su Huan’s ear.

The drones used for mine clearance had been shot down by snipers.

Xiaozhao inquired if the third should be deployed.

Su Huan decisively refused. Although there were still many in the drone warehouse, it wasn’t a matter of wasting them, so he ordered to pull them all back.

Observation outside relied on the fixed cameras attached to the train’s body.

The rain of bullets outside had dwindled to almost a trickle, and such stray bullets couldn’t cause effective damage to the upgraded second-stage composite armor.

Not to mention the soft glass that resists armor-piercing bullets.

Even the outer layer of 15mm Tier One Light Armor couldn’t be penetrated.

Su Huan stopped Lao San and others who wanted to stick their heads out to counterattack.

”The opponent’s sniper hasn’t been suppressed yet. What are you in such a hurry for, rushing to die?”

”Yu Yue, connect me to Professor Ma’s student known as the Little Box.”

”Okay.”

The train crew.

A girl in a gray zipped jacket suddenly opened her eyes, her once-dim gaze regaining sparkle. The sudden appearance of a magnetic voice in her ears startled her slightly.

After a moment, she realized.

”Are you the train captain?”

”I am Su Huan, the train captain. Your teacher is at the front of the train; do you remember what was discussed with you before?”

”I remember.”

”Based on the features I mentioned to you earlier, see if you can locate him.”

”Got it.”

The girl’s eyes returned to the unique look of a gatherer, and after a moment, she hesitated and said, ”Captain, I haven’t found his location. He should be outside my sensing range.”

Receiving the message, Su Huan sighed in relief.

It seems Lin Jin isn’t among these five hundred Servant Soldiers. If Lin Jin were killed in a volley by He Jie, that would be quite a problem.

This girl known as the Little Box is a gatherer who stayed with Wan Xing at the logistics center last time.

The girl is quite tall, not as temperamentally odd as Yu Jing.

She is gentle and also pretty.

The key point is she has awakened a capability called ”topology sensing,” similar to an animal’s instinctual alertness to foreign objects within its territory, though this ability is more complex and abstract.

It can search for the number of certain existing elements based on the girl’s cognition, then determine if the target is within her ”domain.”

This mysterious ability was something Su Huan encountered for the first time.

Yet it gave him a big surprise.

The difficulty of finding Lin Jin was reduced once more.

Su Huan thought for a moment, then began issuing orders to his subordinates.

”Yu Yue, suppress the enemy snipers.”

”Understood!”

”Professor Ma, Xiaoba, prepare yourselves; the enemy Evolvers are about to arrive. Get ready for battle.”

”Got it!”

”Xiaozhao, bring out the drones. Don’t send them out yet, use them for close-range mine detection.”

”Understood.”

”Liang Kuan, keep driving, slow down a bit. Even if it’s just inching forward, the urgency is on them!”

”Got it!”

”All non-combat personnel, return to your rooms.”

”Then pass my upcoming message to all passengers in the rear cars.”

”A reward of captain level permissions and two hundred points will be granted for killing any opposing Evolver soldiers. Capturing one alive rewards the entire team with becoming Evolvers and a Squad D-level weapon and ammunition package, plus five hundred points. For killing the opposing commander, an additional set of a universal exoskeleton, Scavenger-Ⅰ, and one thousand points will be awarded. Capturing the opposing commander alive rewards five sets of exoskeletons with light firepower weapons and three thousand points!”

Ordinary people certainly can’t earn this kind of reward. Su Huan doesn’t mind setting a high price.

How can you lead if you can’t even dream big?

Seriously, who does the train captain fear when it comes to cannon fodder numbers?

...

A slight commotion erupted in the rear car upon hearing Su Huan’s voice but swiftly calmed under the suppression of several leaders.

By the time he got halfway through, people’s breathing had become heavy, and when the final words were spoken, a cheer erupted from the rear car.

Though they weren’t sure how strong the Evolvers outside were, or how fierce the opposing firepower was, or that the commander was still flying, they knew how crucial captain-level permissions were. They stood for survival, authority, violence, resources, women...

And through word of mouth among the passengers, points became a currency that could be exchanged for anything!

Not just the ordinary passengers, even Lu Xiao’s eyes turned red.

The two of them only recently discovered the existence of exoskeletons on the exchange list and personally tried them, finding them impressively effective, though even the most basic exoskeleton cost 500 points!

Exoskeletons had gone through many iterations even before the apocalypse, having evolved past the clunky framework that hung on the body.

Improved on the train, these exoskeletons offered more functions, kept the weight steady, but became more combat-adaptive.

They couldn’t provide defensive protection, but they enhanced load limits significantly.

If one possessed such a tool, the support for transporting materials or combat could be immense.

Even if knocked down by a zombie, they might stand back up, aided by the strong support of an exoskeleton.

This time, the highest reward gave away a full five sets!

However, not everyone was thrilled.

Two intelligence officers were already dumbfounded upon hearing the rocket explosions.

The two stared wide-eyed at each other.

Who just said there would surely be no fight, that the two forces were in cooperation?

What kind of cooperation is this?

War games?
