Chapter 3047: Chapter 3048: Sharon the Witch

The emotion released in the masked person’s eyes was undoubtedly a provocation, but it also revealed an important piece of information—

It was equally wary of Angel and Dox.

Because the masked person’s provocation, to put it bluntly, was just a kind of goading tactic, meant to lure them onto the arena and make them strike first. And once Angel or Dox laid a hand on the masked person, it would mean being dragged into the contract.

If the masked person really had the strength to crush Angel and Dox on its own, it wouldn’t need to rely on the contract’s bonus; it could just step off the stage right now and fight them. Why insist on pulling them into a contract?

So, from this alone it was clear that the masked person believed that without the contract, it would be very difficult to deal with Angel and Dox.

Once they saw this clearly, the masked person’s challenge naturally couldn’t stir their emotions.

Besides, they weren’t even Players in the Paradise Land game, they could very well just ignore any provocation from the masked person.

Only, even if they could choose not to care about this duel invitation, they did indeed need to think about how to respond to the masked person.

After all, there was a high chance that Speedy’s Avatar was on its body.

”What’s wrong, do the two Wizards not dare step onto the arena?” The genderless voice, accompanied by a cackling laugh, came from behind the mask.

Angel didn’t answer, instead he glanced sidelong at Dox.

Dox immediately caught on: ”Why bother hiding behind a mask pretending to be mystic? Who you are, you might be able to fool others about, but not us. We have countless ways to know your identity.”

Dox’s tone carried a deep, layered meaning, and coupled with that pseudo-mystical expression, he really did have a bit of a charlatan’s... no, a Prophet Wizard’s flavor.

As Dox finished speaking, Angel also spoke faintly, in a firm voice: ”We’ve met before, you lady who delights in amusement.”

The masked person gave Dox a deep look, then turned to Angel. After a burst of laughter, it slowly removed the mask.

Only then did everyone present finally see the true face of one of the behind-the-scenes instigators of this Paradise Land.

The face behind the mask, unlike the eccentric aura it had been projecting, was filled with seductive charm.

Chestnut curls hung down over a fair neck, emerald eyes shimmering like a spring lake, and with those delicate, petite features, it was simply a weapon of mass destruction against men.

It... no, now it should be ”she.”

The allure revealed in the flutter of her eyes was even more naturally flowing than that of Ulysses from Blissful Pure Land.

Moreover, compared to Ulysses, there was a few more degrees of bright and valiant heroism in her gaze.

This face was not unfamiliar to Angel at all; she was the very first person he had met upon arriving at the Starry District earlier—Witch Sharon.

”I didn’t expect that after just a fleeting meeting, you would still remember me... For you to be so intent on a stranger lady, could it be that you harbor ulterior motives toward me?” Now that Witch Sharon had revealed her true face, her voice was no longer as affected as before and returned to her normal tone.

”We only met this afternoon. If I already forgot you now, wouldn’t that be a kind of disrespect to Witch Sharon?” Angel replied casually. Pausing, he cast a glance at Dox: ”Though, being able to recognize Witch Sharon’s identity so quickly is also thanks to my companion.”

Witch Sharon didn’t find Angel’s words strange. From her perspective, she was now fully armored up and quite confident in her disguise; outsiders should find it hard to recognize her. However, one of the two before her had seen her before, which provided ”visual medium,” and with Dox, this ’Prophet Wizard’ who could interpret that medium, it was within reason that her identity had been discovered.

Precisely because Witch Sharon had, from the start, pegged Dox as a Prophet Wizard, and because Dox and Angel spoke to her with such apparent familiarity, she naturally assumed her identity had already been exposed, and only then did she remove the mask.

What she didn’t know was that the one who had actually guessed her identity was Angel. However, a guess was ultimately just a guess; Angel wasn’t a hundred percent sure she was Witch Sharon. Otherwise, he could have directly called out her identity earlier, instead of describing her as ”the lady who delights in amusement.”

If Witch Sharon hadn’t taken off the mask of her own accord, Angel actually wouldn’t have dared be certain.

Witch Sharon was unaware of Angel’s thoughts; she simply followed his words and turned her gaze to Dox.

”You two know who I am, yet I still don’t know where you’re from. That seems a bit unfair to me, doesn’t it? This Space Wizard, and this Prophet Wizard, I wonder if you could tell Sharon your names?”

Sharon’s gaze circled between Dox and Angel.

But what she didn’t see was that the three Wizards trapped in the Space Sealing and still conscious all had a flicker of confusion in their eyes.

Who’s the Space Wizard? And where’s the Prophet Wizard?

Though they didn’t know what lineage the red-haired, golden-eyed young Wizard belonged to, they were very familiar with Red Sword Docks.

Dox was neither a Space Wizard nor a Prophet Wizard, so why was this Witch Sharon forcefully pinning one of those two branches onto Dox?

Huh, what on earth had gone wrong here? Was Witch Sharon misunderstanding, or was it their own cognition that had gone awry?

Though they were at a loss, they all tacitly chose to remain silent.

This Witch Sharon’s attitude toward the two of them was clearly different; they even felt that Witch Sharon faintly seemed a bit... wary?

They didn’t know which link in the chain had gone off, but there was no doubt that this was a good thing.

For all they knew, those two might be the key to whether they could escape with their lives today; so they absolutely must not disturb them! Nor must they alert Witch Sharon!

Precisely with this kind of awareness, the three trapped Wizards fell into silence.

”I’m Dox. As for him... let him speak for himself.” Dox carelessly gave his real name. After all, he was using his true face now; if Witch Sharon wanted to investigate later, she could anyway, so there was no need to lie about such things.

However, when it came to Angel’s name, he didn’t introduce him.

Angel picked up the thread, saying lightly: ”Jon, you can call me Jon.”

”Dox, and... Jon.” Witch Sharon let out a soft chuckle when she spoke Jon’s name. ”I’ll remember them.”

Names could actually reveal quite a lot of information.

At the moment Witch Sharon could confirm that Dox hadn’t lied. Her Blood Curse was still in Dox’s body; its effects weren’t limited to freezing his Bloodline. Through the flow of blood feedbacked by the Blood Curse, she could also discern whether Dox was lying.

This method of lie detection was something she had summed up from years of Blood Curse practice in the Wild Realm. It wasn’t perfectly accurate, but it had about a ninety-percent success rate.

Even that ten percent margin of error leaves traces; with her experience, if she observes a Blood Curse a few more times, she can still tell it apart.

At least for now, the feedback from the Blood Curse in Dox’s body lets Witch Sharon confirm that Dox wasn’t lying.

But Jon’s words... that’s another story.

Besides, ”You can call me Jon” and ”My name is Jon” are two very different things.

Witch Sharon couldn’t judge whether the name ”Jon” was real, but from Dox and Jon’s interactions, she picked up a few details.

In the way these two got along, it seemed Jon was the one in charge.

Witch Sharon didn’t know if this impression was accurate, but if Jon was really the one calling the shots, did that mean Jon was even harder to deal with than Dox?

”We’ve gone off-topic long enough. You two really don’t plan on doing something proper?” Witch Sharon’s beautiful eyes drifted between them. ”Since you’ve come to Paradise Land, I assume you’re here for something, right? Whatever it is you want, why not get on the arena and have some fun? As long as you can win, everything’s negotiable.”

Witch Sharon’s words left the Apprentices and Wizards present a bit stunned.

Everyone else went on the arena because they had no choice; but when facing Dox and Angel, Witch Sharon was instead inviting them up. That was clearly different.

As if they hadn’t entered the Paradise Land game at all?

But if they hadn’t entered the Paradise Land game, how could they have gotten here?

Witch Sharon could naturally guess what everyone was thinking, but she didn’t intend to explain. She simply maintained her smile and kept watching Dox and Angel.

Angel didn’t answer. Instead, Dox, standing beside him, picked up on Witch Sharon’s words and said, ”Fun people can go to all that trouble just for amusement with no demands attached. So why must our arrival have some agenda? Can’t we just be here to watch the show?”

”Fun people? Is that what you’re calling me?” Witch Sharon raised a brow. ”Slapping a nickname on a lady out of nowhere is hardly gentlemanly. However... I’ll forgive you. I like the title ’fun person’. I’ll accept it.”

After speaking, Witch Sharon looked at Dox. ”Back to the point, what you’re saying is that I set up this Paradise Land game just to amuse myself, with no other purpose?”

Dox countered, ”What else?”

Witch Sharon’s eyes flickered. ”On that point, it seems Wizard Dox’s Divination has missed the mark. How could there be no purpose in arranging a Paradise Land game?”

Dox said, ”I only said you have no purpose. As for whether your companion has a purpose, that’s another matter.”

At the mention of Witch Sharon’s companion, not only did Witch Sharon narrow her eyes, but the members of the Birlos Family all showed shocked expressions.

”This woman has a companion?” Yaji couldn’t help blurting out.

Dox hadn’t planned to answer, but when his gaze swept over Yaji, as if he suddenly thought of something, the corner of his mouth hooked up in a smile. ”Of course she has a companion. And her companion has done something big. Tsk tsk tsk, you’re stuck in Paradise Land and don’t know it, but outside, things are lively as can be.”

The biggest piece of information Dox actually revealed in this line was: he entered Paradise Land from the outside world.

However, Yaji had no mind to care about that right now; all his attention was fixed on the ”big incident at Bilun Tree Court”.

Yaji furrowed his brows tight. ”What exactly happened outside?”

”Something very interesting happened outside.” Dox smiled squint-eyed at Yaji. ”Lend me your leg for a few days, and I’ll tell you.”

Yaji: ”You’re blackmailing me!”

Yaji glared at Dox in anger, while Dox wore a full-on rogue expression. ”Yeah, I’m blackmailing you.”

”You—!”

At this moment, Witch Sharon suddenly spoke. ”If Wizard Dox wants the Razor shade’s leg, I can help you take it from him, as long as...”

Dox cut her off. ”If there’s no ’but’ attached, I’d be happy to accept.”

Witch Sharon flicked the ends of her hair at her neck and smiled. ”Thinking you can get a free lunch—this world doesn’t have such good deals.”

Dox: ”This lunch isn’t coming from you anyway, so how is it free?”

”Unless you put something nice on the table for me as well. But just judging with my naked eye, I don’t see anything on you that could catch my interest... Or, if you fetch me a Wizard Level Shallow Sea Strongman’s thigh, I might consider not eating this free lunch.”

Witch Sharon let out a cold laugh. ”If you want the Shallow Sea Strongman’s leg, you can go get it yourself. As long as you can actually get it, I can decide to give it to you for free.”

Dox spread his hands, still looking every bit the rogue. ”If I can get a Shallow Sea Strongman’s leg, how’s that ’given for free’ anymore? That should be called my spoils of war.”

”Talking to a Wizard whose way of thinking runs opposite mine is exhausting. If you don’t want to give something away for free, just don’t speak up. Besides, I never said I wanted the Razor shade’s leg from your hands.”

As he said this, Dox looked at Yaji and tossed him a ”you know what I mean” look.

Yaji merely glared at Dox in fury, with a face that said ”don’t even think about it.”

Dox shrugged. ”Since Wizard Yaji isn’t interested in the ’miserable situation’ at Bilun Tree Court in the slightest, then forget it.”

Dox deliberately put heavy emphasis on the word ”miserable,” and upon hearing it, Yaji’s expression changed abruptly. However, he still didn’t ask Dox any questions. In his view, Dox’s line was probably said on purpose just to swindle the Razor shade’s leg out of him.

Sea Eagle Wizard also spoke up at this time, and what he asked was likewise about Bilun Tree Court’s situation.

But Dox still had that look of ”no rabbit, no hawk,” refusing to say more. Sea Eagle Wizard had no standing to decide on Yaji’s behalf and could only shut his mouth helplessly.

Once they all fell into silence, Dox instead opened his mouth. ”Just Witch Sharon alone was enough to turn Paradise Land into a complete mess. If her companion starts stirring up trouble, how could he possibly lose to her?”

Although Dox still didn’t explicitly state what was happening outside, that line was enough to send both Sea Eagle Wizard and Yaji into deep worry.

Witch Sharon said, ”You’ve wasted all this time, and you still haven’t answered my initial question... I don’t believe for a second that you came to Paradise Land without any purpose, especially when that claim comes from a man whose mouth runs like a runaway train. Even less believable.”

”Still, I don’t really care about your purpose anymore. I only want to know: are you going on the arena? If not, then stop wasting time here.”

”Or is it that you’re not wasting time at all, but rather trying to... stall for time?”
