Chapter 2036: Chapter 2037: Assimilated People

This way is also good; Angel can more easily investigate the truth behind that humanoid silhouette.

Angel maintained the oppression exerted by his right eye as he leisurely walked up to the Island Mushroom. He didn’t immediately investigate but instead reached out his hand to touch the three glowing mushroom entities.

With a flicker of a green pattern, the three little entities were finally freed from the freeze imposed by fear.

After all, the oppressiveness of the green pattern in the right eye is a strong damage in itself; Angel’s intention was to abduct them, not to kill.

However, even after the green pattern oppression was lifted, they still seemed to be in a state of shock, not daring to act wantonly before Angel, shivering and standing aside without moving.

It wasn’t until Angel actively released some soothing emotions that they gradually returned to normal.

After doing this, Angel finally turned his gaze towards the massive toothed mouth of the Island Mushroom.

The pungent smell of sulfur mixed with an extremely unpleasant rotten egg smell assailed his senses. Faced with such horrific odor, Angel’s expression remained unchanged, and he even spared some thoughts to consider whether diluting the strong scent could result in a pleasant fragrance.

Of course, the scent wasn’t the focus; Angel still kept his attention on that human form.

Although the small entities had devoured most of the surrounding viridian mist, the green mist in the mushroom’s maw remained thick, barely allowing the outline of the dark-toned humanoid figure to be visible through the mist.

Initially, Angel considered using an eye-enhancing Trick to see the other’s appearance. However, when he looked with his activated right eye, he discovered that using his right eye for deep sight brought an unprecedented enhancement.

The right eye solely enhanced his sight without any other amplifications. Yet, this enhancement resulted in a terrifying effect multiplier.

The viridian mist is essentially composed of extremely fine filamentous particles. With his enhanced sight, Angel directly saw through these particles, pierced the barriers of vision through the refraction and transformation of light and shadow, and saw the true form of the silhouette within the maw.

It was a man.

His lower body was completely fused with scarlet mycelium, only the upper body still retained a human form. Even so, the exposed skin was almost entirely covered by a thin layer of mycelium. His hands were suspended, with both forearms also merging with mycelium, appearing as though he was a human about to melt.

His face was extremely distorted, sticky with a lot of mycelium. Nevertheless, Angel could still roughly reconstruct his original appearance in his mind.

Yet, even with a rough original appearance, Angel still didn’t recognize him.

”I should’ve asked about the specific people who fell into the ruins before entering.” Angel sighed. He could inquire with Sanders in the Wilderness of Dreams, but it wasn’t safe nor the right time to ask now.

Angel tried calling out to the man, but received no response.

”Perhaps it’s because of the pressure?” Angel thought for a moment, deciding to remove the pressure from the man before asking again.

However, just as Angel removed the pressure on the man from a distance, he awakened the entire mushroom along with him.

”Ahhh! I’m in agony! Why me... I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!” The man opened his eyes, his eyes completely devoid of emotion, filled entirely with a ghostly green.

With the man’s fierce howling, the mushroom shot out a long tongue towards Angel, spewing powerful flames.

Angel was just at the edge of the mushroom’s mouth and was a bit caught off guard by this sudden move.

However, faced with the imminent danger, Angel didn’t panic, keeping a close distance to the mushroom. He was extremely vigilant, having considered any unexpected events in his mind.

Without much hesitation, Angel manipulated the Phantom Limb behind him, like lines of iron chains spanning before him to block the impact. Simultaneously, the green pattern in his right eye leaped once more.

As the mask’s patterns deepened, the Island Mushroom once again froze in place.

Because the entire process occurred in a blink of an eye, when it was suppressed again, it hadn’t even closed its mouth, opening it wider and pushing the bound man towards the sharp teeth, revealing even more parts.

When the man was oppressed, he was still in the midst of roaring, so he continued to display that ferocious expression.

Seeing this scene, Angel formed a slight guess in his heart.

Previously, he only relieved the pressure on the man, yet the entire mushroom came to life, which already indicated something.

The man and the mushroom have an inseparable interaction, affecting the whole with just one movement.

It could even be said, perhaps this man is the core of the mushroom.

”Could the term Blair used about humans manipulated by Mim Jing refer to this state? Completely inseparable from the mushroom, eventually assimilating with it?” Angel speculated silently.

No matter whether Angel’s conjecture was correct, the most important thing now is to acquire more information.

Apart from observation, the best way to gather information is direct inquiry.

But how could he obtain information from this nearly assimilated human?

Simple calling and verbal stimulation were already tried earlier and clearly were ineffective. So what should he do now?

Transport him to the Wilderness of Dreams? That might not be a bad idea, but actually bringing him into the Wilderness of Dreams, Angel wasn’t sure whether his consciousness belonged to a human or a mushroom.

Moreover, this place wasn’t suitable for entering the Wilderness of Dreams.

Angel’s gaze wandered for a while, eventually stopping on the viridian mist around him.

He remembered Blair mentioning that the weakness of Mim Jing was Mim Jing itself. If this was a human controlled by Mim Jing, would absorbing all these viridian mists return him to normal?

Angel planned to give it a try since, if Mim Jing actually appeared outside, he could take precautions in advance.

Thinking this, Angel looked down at the three little entities at his feet...

...

The process of absorbing the viridian mist was even smoother than Angel had expected.

Although the little entities didn’t have high intelligence, they were able to understand Angel’s order to consume the viridian mist, and they were quite willing to do so.

However, after consuming the mist surrounding the man, Angel attempted once more to wake him... still no signs of human consciousness.

Angel had no choice but to activate the green pattern in his right eye again, forcing the mushroom back into a state of oppression.

”Why did absorbing these mists have no effect?” Angel pondered this question as he looked at the man once more.

After observing him for a long time, Angel’s gaze finally settled on his eyes.
