Chapter 1141: Section 1142: An Unexpected Battle

As Yadasai’s words fell, the atmosphere on the scene changed instantly.

For the wizards on the floating ice, Yadasai’s words did not cause too much disturbance. Instead, it was the demons lurking in the shadows whose brows suddenly twitched.

For the demons, their foremost concern was naturally how to escape this heavenly prison. Previously, Komodo had claimed that the portal was still operating, which had given them a glimmer of hope, but Yadasai’s words mercilessly strangled that hope.

“How is it possible? The portal at the top of the tower is under the protection of the Abyssal Demon Eye. How could it be destroyed? You’re lying to me!” Komodo’s complexion changed in an instant, veins on his forehead throbbing, as he cried out in alarm.

Faced with Komodo’s tantrum, Yadasai merely scoffed in mockery.

There was no need for him to explain whether it was true or not.

Indeed, shortly after, Komodo’s emotions gradually calmed down, and after the outburst of anger, reason slowly returned to him.

Upon careful consideration, despite his not-so-good relationship with Yadasai, having both spent many years in the Council of Seven, Komodo also understood some of Yadasai’s ways. It was impossible for Yadasai to lie about such a critical matter.

Which meant that it was very possible that something had indeed gone wrong with the top-level portal.

Komodo: “Was it that intruder’s doing?”

Yadasai: “Besides him, no other traces of intrusion have been detected.”

“Tell me, who exactly is the intruder?” Komodo’s voice was suppressed with an unprecedented fury.

“Who he is doesn’t matter. What, are you planning to look for trouble with him?” Yadasai replied coldly, “He’s still in the Void Tower; you may try to enter. But I can disclose one thing to you, the will of the Cruel Scholar once descended in the underground hall.”

At this point, Yadasai’s voice came to an abrupt halt, not saying another word.

But the information he revealed made Komodo’s heart shudder. He had previously thought the intruder, while destroying the nexus, had not attracted the attention of the Cruel Scholar. However, Yadasai’s words now clearly indicated one thing:

The Cruel Scholar had not only noticed the changes in the Void Tower but even let his will descend!

Yet even so, the nexuses of inscriptions were still destroyed!

Considering the Cruel Scholar’s tremendous power, it was impossible for him not to stop the destruction of the nexus, so there was only one possibility left, that the Cruel Scholar did not prevent it, and might even have deliberately avoided it! And for a being that could make even the Great Demon God step aside, it indicated that the intruder’s identity was most certainly not simple!

Putting two and two together, especially since Yadasai mentioned that even the top-level portal had been destroyed, it showed that the intruder even disregarded the deterrence of “Abyssal Demon Eye,” The Unparalleled Great Demon God.

So the answer was quite clear: The opponent must also possess strength not far off from that of the Abyssal Demon Eye.

—It couldn’t be The Unparalleled Great Demon God in person, but it was highly likely one of his favored followers.

With this thought, the rage in Komodo gradually extinguished as if doused by a bucket of ice water from head to toe. Not only did his body feel cold, but a chill also rose in his heart.

No matter who the intruder was, Komodo clearly understood that it was temporarily impossible to lay a hand on him.

This was bad enough for Komodo, but what was worse—

Komodo raised his head to look at Fafnir opposite him. Previously, Fafnir had seriously considered whether to make a deal with Komodo, but now, her cold expression had made her decision clear.

“Are you sure you want to fight me?” Komodo’s eyes were dark and solemn.

“The terms of the trade you propose are just empty talk. Why should I accept this farce of a trade? Also, that sentence should be mine to say,” Fafnir scoffed coldly, “Are you sure you want to fight me at all costs?”

The same words indeed made Komodo hesitate.

His previous confidence was based on being a recognized authority holder by the Void Tower, which could lead Fafnir to the top level. But now, with the top-level portal destroyed, that confidence was gone.

So if he wanted Fafnir to agree to his demands, he would have to resort to other means, such as force.

But he himself did not want to initiate a battle; a fight with Fafnir would inevitably be a prolonged war of attrition. Such a war would hurt the enemy but, in turn, would also wound oneself.

His energy would continue to deplete, so how would he compete with Aoluxiya for the Primeval Flame when the time came?

The situation reversed in an instant, and when the information in hand was not advantageous, their own threats were used by the opponent.

Komodo looked at Fafnir, and although Fafnir’s expression remained unchanged, it clearly saw the mockery in Fafnir’s eyes. It knew that Fafnir had guessed its inner thoughts.

If it desired the Primeval Flame, it could not battle here—it would have to abandon Angel.

If it wanted to seize Angel, it would have to be prepared for a drawn-out conflict, and ultimately, it definitely would not be able to snatch the Primeval Flame.

Komodo then became entangled in this dilemma, glaring fiercely at Fafnir while weighing the pros and cons in its heart. Komodo could be sure that whether obtaining the Primeval Flame or undergoing an awakening, either would solve its dilemma, but the Primeval Flame was certain to appear, whereas whether Angel could trigger its awakening was uncertain.

Moreover, the current backdrop was also quite unique. If it engaged with Fafnir in combat, not only would it end up depleting its own energy, but it might also fall prey to the humans lurking nearby, waiting to reap the benefits.

Reason told it that the best choice would be to temporarily retreat.

Both Fafnir and the Wizard watching from the sky believed that Komodo would choose to avoid the conflict.

But, to their surprise, Komodo did not choose to retreat in the end. Instead, its eyes suddenly turned blood-red, and with a sinister chuckle, flames engulfed its body as it chose to initiate the battle!

This was an unforeseen variable that the onlookers had not considered. Komodo did indeed wish to retreat, but having just devoured the Blood Cocoon of Urdixinos and Minotaur, it had not yet fully dissipated their malevolent energies, which influenced its behavior and thought processes.

Both great demons were Battle Maniacs, especially Minotaur. When it left the Void Tower, it did not engage in any scheming but directly sought out humans for battle, which was quite telling.

Under the influence of the Blood Cocoon’s battle will, Komodo’s thinking experienced a momentary short circuit. By the time it realized what was happening, it had already engaged Fafnir in combat.

Now that the battle was underway, Komodo gritted its teeth and did not choose to withdraw at this point.

Komodo knew that neither it nor Fafnir wanted this battle to occur, so what it hoped for now was that Fafnir would take a step back on its own initiative.

But Fafnir seemed to have been ignited as well, and would not budge an inch.

For a moment, the two were locked in a stalemate.

The only consolation was that their clash was still in the nature of probing each other and did not yet employ earth-shattering tactics. Nevertheless, it still caused extensive destruction to Lassudral.

This destruction, to a certain extent, also accelerated the demise of Lassudral.

Gaping holes appeared in the ground, rocks and Dust filled the sky, and the dispersing energies created void-like patches all around. Angel, although starting in the Domain of Wind, could foresee that before long, even the Domain of Wind would not withstand this torrent of energy.

Angel had not expected things to develop to this extent. Now, he was directly beneath the battleground of Fafnir and Komodo, surrounded by wild energies, with no chance of escape.

Angel could only watch helplessly as the surrounding land sank into ruin, with the Domain of Wind amidst the devastation, like an isolated island.

Could it be that he had been forgotten by them? Angel looked up at the sky.

Unfortunately, the air was thick with Dust, making it impossible to see anything clearly.

Without effective information, Angel could only think of the worst-case scenario. If their battle did not stop and Fafnir also failed to notice this place, staying within the Domain of Wind would be tantamount to waiting for death.

Angel could not place all his hopes on the off chance that someone would “accidentally remember.”

Given the circumstances, his best option was to find an appropriate opportunity to leave the center of the battlefield.

He had the Gravity Meridian, so as long as the timing was right, he could instantaneously distance himself from the area. But with chaotic energies all around, choosing the most suitable moment was the focal point of Angel’s attention.

Angel forcefully suppressed his restless thoughts, closing his eyes and continuously recalling the sensation of being transported to that strange world through the power of the Eye of the Sky…

When he opened his eyes again, they were dark and as cold as an ice-cold abyss.

Setting aside the emotional module, Angel projected himself into the state of absolute reason that he had in the strange world after his arrival.

Although it was merely a simulation, and many situations could not achieve the feeling of the strange world, it was enough.

Under this unimaginably rational state, Angel analyzed the energy disturbances around him, waiting for the perfect moment to arrive—
