Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1133: Section 1134 The End Is Nigh

When the master switch was pressed,

at first glance, there was no change. However, on a deeper level, the change had already begun to spread.

Yadasai, who had been smashed against the wall, was finally able to move after being immobile for a long time.

But it was too late.

Closing its eyes, within its spiritual sense, the surrounding patterns of light danced frantically; everything had already reached the point of no return.

Yadasai walked out of the pit in the wall, its eyes filled with helplessness and rage. It was all too aware that the act of pressing the master switch was an irreversible operation, and what was to come would be a nightmare spreading throughout all of Lassudral.

What made it feel most powerless was that in this moment, which would decide the survival or destruction of Lassudral, it could only act as a spectator, unable to participate or turn the tide.

After all, was this not a gambit of the Demon Gods, far beyond its control?

Rustling sounds began as pebbles started to fall from above.

The aftermath of pressing the master switch had begun to manifest.

At this moment, Yadasai was less than twenty meters away from Popota, watching from a distance the alien creature whose race was still indiscernible, fury barely concealed in its eyes, along with deep-seated resentment and heartache.

Popota, seemingly sensing this almost tangible hatred, turned his head and looked back at Yadasai from afar.

Their gazes met at that moment.

Popota’s appearance at that time was ugly and terrifying; his purplish skin with a tinge of crimson looked fierce. He raised his bulging, veiny brows and glared with bloodshot eyes as if provoking Yadasai.

Yadasai, on the other hand, silently observed Popota, its mind whirling with thoughts, the intention to exterminate this root cause of disaster rising countless times.

But in the end, Yadasai only sighed internally, turned its head, and walked slowly towards the outside.

Now, no matter what harsh words were uttered or actions taken, none of it meant anything. Even if it killed Popota, it could not stop the course of events. Killing Popota might also disrupt the deeper plans of the Void Tower’s master—why bother?

Given the circumstances, irreversible as they were, the only choice was to accept. Making the most of one’s own interests before Lassudral’s destruction was now the best option.

With each step, Yadasai distanced itself from the underground hall. Behind it lay the continuously falling debris and Popota, who suddenly burst into manic laughter amidst the rain of stones.

…

Angel was still completely unaware of everything.

“Nitotipu has left the Shadow Mist Area!”

After being treated with potions, the damage to Angel’s Spirit Sea had greatly improved, and so he pleaded with Fafnir to start the live broadcast again. However, this time he dared not probe into the Shadow Mist Area, instead wandering just on its periphery.

Thus, when Nitotipu left the Shadow Mist Area, Angel spotted it immediately.

Angel projected Nitotipu’s figure in the yard.

From the details in the illusion, it was clear that Nitotipu was in bad shape; several of its tentacles were severed, and the splendid robe it wore showed significant signs of bloodstains and damage, indicating that Nitotipu was seriously injured.

“It seems to have been through a fierce fight,” Angel murmured softly. “It looks like the situation inside the Shadow Mist Area is quite extraordinary.”

Even one of the seven great Demons in control of the Void Tower had been expelled.

Angel turned around to hear what Fafnir thought, but when he looked at Fafnir, he realized that the other was not paying attention to this side but was deep in thought with eyes closed and brows tightly furrowed.

On the other side, Canaan suddenly stood up, taking deep breaths with a hand over his chest.

“Canaan, are you alright?” Angel asked with a concerned look.

Canaan simply waved his hand and said to Angel, “I’m fine. It’s just that the pervasive sense of sorrow that surrounded me has suddenly vanished, making me feel somewhat uneasy.”

“Uneasy? Shouldn’t you be happy that Lassudral has stopped its wailing?”

Canaan’s expression was grave as he looked off into the distance with a puzzled gaze: “That’s what I thought too. But for some reason, that heavy feeling has grown even more profound.”

Angel followed Canaan’s gaze.

He did not know what Canaan saw, but he saw the rolling dark clouds in the sky, the howling winds, the scattering embers borne by the wind, and the silent and profound Void Tower standing tall at the edge of his vision.

Angel looked away, back to the illusion of Nitotipu in the courtyard.

Nitotipu was injured, Lassudral had undergone a drastic change, and the Night Innkeeper had taken the final step… a series of events were all unfolding at the same moment.

Angel too felt something odd, but as an Apprentice of little strength, no matter how puzzled he was or how swiftly things changed outside, all he could do at present was to quietly watch them happen, change, and reach their conclusion.

The silence in the courtyard didn’t last long before Angel broke it himself, “Eh, it seems like the dark light outside the Void Tower has disappeared?”

As Angel’s words fell, Fafnir finally opened her eyes, looking towards the distant Void Tower with an expression more grave than ever before.

Angel was startled by this gravity, and he also felt some confusion. Wasn’t the disappearance of the Shadow Mist Area a good thing? Why would Fafnir show such an expression?

After a long while, Fafnir sighed deeply, “I didn’t expect it to really come to this.”

Come to what? Angel looked at Fafnir with suspicion, waiting for her explanation, but unexpectedly, Fafnir suddenly dropped a bombshell—

“Lassudral has reached its end times.”

At first, Angel didn’t understand what Fafnir meant. Only after he pondered the statement again did he suddenly realize that Fafnir seemed to be saying: The apocalypse has arrived?

“Lady Fafnir, you mean…” Angel asked in a tone of disbelief.

“It’s exactly what you’re thinking.” Fafnir’s heterochromatic eyes rarely showed solemnity as she spoke with an urgent tone, “The end times are upon us, so, it’s time to prepare to leave.”

Lassudral is about to end? How is that possible?

Not just Angel, but even Canaan beside him was startled. It turned its head to look around. Everything seemed so normal… There might have been some anomalies in the sky, like dark clouds, fierce winds, and sparks, but surely it wasn’t enough to affect the entirety of Lassudral, right?

With a light snap of her fingers, Fafnir made the previously surrounding Domain of Wind vanish.

Specks of sparks flew in from outside.

“What the eyes see may not be the truth,” Fafnir said, standing among the drifting sparks as she turned to look back at Angel and Canaan, who were still in a daze.

What the eyes see may not be reality. Angel actually agreed with this; as an Illusion Series wizard, he was very clear that the most basic Illusion Technique was to deceive the eyes.

But, what did this have to do with the current situation?

“You can see a creature’s outward wholeness but find it hard to see the disease within its body, and even harder to see the deep corruption of its spirit. Similarly, you see the calmness of this city but fail to see that the foundation maintaining this calm has already begun to crumble,” Fafnir said indifferently.

If every rule of Lassudral were likened to a string, then they were all in chaos or even broken at this moment.

Fafnir didn’t know why this disaster had happened, but she understood that when all these strings had problems, Lassudral was already finished.

Seeing that Angel and Canaan were still looking confused, Fafnir created a breeze anew, taking Angel’s newly separated consciousness to the outskirts of Lassudral.

When he saw the situation here, Angel’s pupils had already constricted to a slit!

This was the very edge of Lassudral, one step forward led to the Void, one step backward to solid ground. This fringe area had always been very stable, but now, massive cracks had appeared.

Through these cracks, countless rocks and foundations were falling from the fringes.

All plummeting into the deep Void.

In just a few minutes, the outermost areas had already shrunk by a circle, and this shrinkage was still accelerating at a visible rate.

It was foreseeable that if this continued, it wouldn’t be long before Lassudral would completely collapse and fall into the boundless Void.

“The end times of Lassudral are even earlier than you imagined. The current collapse is only the outer ring, but once the collapse proceeds normally, it will be a large-scale, widespread caving in,” Fafnir explained, making Angel feel even more horrified.

Canaan too saw the changes at the edge, and in its eyes, aside from shock, there was also a hint of relief after understanding the reason. It had always felt a heavy weight in its heart, but now the reason was clear.

“Lady Fafnir, then… if we are to leave, how do we go? Do we take the passage beneath Lassudral to the inner layers?” Canaan asked. Although it was somewhat shocked by Lassudral’s collapse, it wasn’t particularly attached to this place and only felt a bit of regret.

Right now, Canaan was most concerned about the method of departure.

“The Throne is approaching, Lassudral has been sealed from the time flames started floating in the sky, and now it’s not easy to get out. Even if it were possible to break through this seal, but…”

Fafnir had more to say, but Angel and Canaan both grasped her meaning.

Even if Fafnir forcibly broke the seal, she might offend the new sovereign, which was what she left unsaid. Moreover, Fafnir wasn’t entirely sure she could break the seal here.

Angel: “What should we do then? Fly up to the sky and wait?”

Fafnir sneered coldly, “The end of Lassudral isn’t limited to just the ground collapsing.”

Even the sky would be affected, unless one were to break through the seal and fly into the far reaches of the Void.

Fafnir looked up, her gaze directed towards the core area of Lassudral, “Head to the Void Tower. Even in the event of a collapse, that place will surely be the last to fall.”
