Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1109: Section 1110 Komodo

Shapes slowly emerged from the vortex of light and shadow.

Angel’s pupils constricted—what did he see?

The silhouette of a great Demon?!

He was really hit by what Fafnir had predicted! Under such a terrifying attack, the great Demon hadn’t died? Angel’s face was filled with shock, and as the light and shadow took form, the silhouette became clearer and clearer.

Angel quietly watched the dark vortex. When the light and shadow completely stepped out of the vortex, he finally saw the true situation inside—

Barfiment appeared before the wizards.

“It’s actually still alive!” Angel felt a sudden turmoil of emotions. Under the devastating force of this level, Barfiment was still alive…

No, that’s not right! Angel’s expression froze for a moment. He noticed that although Barfiment had stepped out of the dark vortex, its eyes were dull and desperate, with not a trace of spirit in them.

It didn’t at all resemble a living creature!

As Angel watched, puzzled, he saw a faint black mist enveloping Barfiment’s body, the mist continuously eroding it, large patches of skin falling away to reveal the muscles and flesh beneath. This flesh, like scorched clay, turned into a thick paste, constantly dripping from its body.

Flesh, organs, even bones, all melted together, spilling from the sky.

The crimson stench, the black filth, the pale decay.

In the end, Barfiment completely turned into a blood fog and exploded with a bang.

As all the filth dissipated, Barfiment’s spirit was also erased from the world.

However, it wasn’t over yet.

Angel heard the sound of “dingling dingling” bells. Only Urdixinos wore bells as a demon!

Indeed, after the blood fog cleared, shapes appeared behind it, and not just one. Urdixinos and Minotaur revealed themselves simultaneously!

They were actually hiding behind Barfiment? So they managed to survive by sheer luck?! No, more precisely, at the moment the puppet show’s stage was shattered, they had hijacked Barfiment, using it as a shield in front of themselves!

Yet even so, they looked terrible.

They too were being eroded by the black fog, and like Barfiment, their skin was falling off and their flesh turning into a muddy mess. However, Angel could clearly see that there was still emotion in their eyes—darkness, resentment, hatred… Regardless, at least from their eyes, they seemed to be not yet dead.

Sure enough, when their bones were almost entirely consumed, half of Urdixinos’s body was melted away, and Minotaur’s condition was even worse—almost two-thirds had turned to nothingness. But, regardless, they were still alive, and the flesh at their wounds was churning and bubbling, as if about to be restored.

“They are still alive?!” Atop the floating ice, a wizard shouted incredulously.

The Chaos Mana Cannon, when it strikes, can penetrate the Void, even affecting a vast amount of different spaces behind the current spatial coordinates to different extents.

This superconductive mechanical Magic Instrument, they actually managed to dodge it?

“How can they still be alive after such an attack?” The speaking wizard muttered to himself, his expression gradually shifting from shock to despair. Were the great Demons’ bodies really this formidable?

“Shut up, instead of talking, we’d better take care of these two great Demons. They’re like candles in the wind now, the perfect time to finish them off!” Maher forced himself up and then looked towards Monty: “Lord Monty, right now…”

“As you say, now is the best moment to kill them,” Monty turned to look at everyone else. “They have not fully recovered yet. Kill them, and all the spoils will be yours.”

As it turned out, any impassioned rallying cry was less effective than tangible incentives.

Earlier, Barfiment had turned into mush, but its weapons were still firmly in Minotaur’s hands, while Urdixinos had seized Barfiment’s Fearful Wicked Breath. Along with the value of the two Demons themselves, it instantly made everyone’s eyes turn red with greed.

Ordinary Demons might not be as valuable as Magical Creatures, but great Demons are different… Their Bloodline is worth a fortune, often priceless, whether for sale or personal use, it’s always an excellent choice.

Despite the lure of profit, the wizards atop the floating ice knew their limits. The opponents were, after all, great Demons. Even crippled to the extreme, they were not easily killed, so even though everyone was tempted, no one dared to step forward immediately.

This was also a continuation of the psychological shock delivered to everyone when the Chaos Mana Cannon failed to kill these two great Demons.

While all the wizards hesitated, a dark-skinned man wreathed in the shadow of a Black Dragon rose into the air from behind the floating ice.

“Black Dragon” Issac! Yet another True Knowledge Wizard of the Frostmoon Alliance!

Issac’s strength was no less than Samantha’s. With him leading, even if they were to face a counterattack from the great Demons, he would be the first to take the damage. When some wizards considered this, they also flew up from the floating ice, landing behind Issac.

More and more wizards took to the skies.

Issac gazed into the distance, where two great Demons stood motionless before the dark vortex, appearing statue-like, but the flesh squirming from their wounds made it clear they were in a race against time to heal.

Just as Monty had said, they must be slain before their wounds were healed, or else the repercussions would be endless!

With that thought, Issac hesitated not, transforming into the afterimage of a Black Dragon and charging toward the great Demons. The Wizards following him showed off their magical prowess, and in an instant, the sky blazing with flames became dazzlingly brilliant—

Yadasai remained entangled with Nereus and was thus unable to provide support.

As the afterimage of the Black Dragon was about to collide with the battered great Demon, a harsh, grating laugh suddenly emerged out of thin air.

With a flicker of a Phantom Shadow, a fire-robed Demon with a head resembling that of a Salamander appeared before the Black Dragon, conjuring a fire shield that blocked the attack.

“Barfiment’s spirit has vanished? Good, the seven seats of the Void Tower are too many anyway, plus I loathe its foul, fishy stink…”

The fire shield effortlessly kept Issac at bay, and even the other Wizards’ attacks from behind failed to breach this seemingly ordinary shield.

This feat alone was more terrifying than any great Demon they had faced previously!

“The Monarch of Fire shall soon descend, any insult to fire is a provocation to the throne,” the fire-robed Demon sneered with a mouth full of sharp fangs, “Under the majesty of fire, defeating me is impossible.”

…

On the ground, Canaan observed the great Demon with the Salamander head within the Illusionary Realm, a trace of wariness flashing in his eyes.

“It’s Komodo, the only Fire System great Demon among the seven seats of the Void Tower,” stated Canaan, himself a Water System Half-Blood Demon. Confronted by Komodo, he couldn’t help but display a color of fear, even though he knew the figure before him was but an illusion.

Komodo’s presence didn’t surprise Angel. He had previously surmised that the seven great Demons of the Void Tower would one by one head skyward to intercept the floating ice.

Now, with Minotaur and Urdixinos in critical stages of recovery, it was only normal for a great Demon to come to their aid. If even Komodo proved insufficient, probably Nitotipu would also make a move.

What truly surprised Angel, aside from the fact that the Chaos Mana Cannon hadn’t killed the great Demons, was Sanders’ earlier lip-reading. It seemed that Sanders had spotted him? Unfortunately, Angel couldn’t control that strand of wind, otherwise, he could have used its trajectory to communicate the humans’ extermination plan to Sanders.

Angel glanced covertly at Fafnir, pondering whether there was a way to borrow control of that strand of wind from her, even for just a moment.

However, when Angel looked at Fafnir, he noticed an uncommon look of surprise on her face.

Not just Fafnir, Canaan too appeared astonished.

But the source of surprise, including Angel among them, varied for each of the three. Canaan’s surprise laid in his repeated exclamation, “Barfiment actually died like that?”

Up to this point, Canaan had not recovered from the news of Barfiment’s death. To him, a great Demon of Barfiment’s stature was beyond reach, yet such a being was killed by humans? This was unbelievable to him.

What stunned Fafnir, on the other hand, was Issac. The Black Dragon’s afterimage on him made her look particularly grim.

“Who is he?” Fafnir pointed at Issac, asking Angel.

Angel had been contemplating how to convince Fafnir to hand over control of the wind to him, but Fafnir asked first.

Angel scrutinized the afterimage of the Black Dragon within the Illusionary Realm, which he had simulated, and shook his head, “I haven’t seen him before, but by the emblem on his clothes, and that Black Dragon afterimage… he might be Issac of the Frostmoon Alliance.”

Before Apprentices venture out on their own, all Witcher Organizations present them with images of powerful figures from the Wizards’ Realm for them to recognize, lest they offend such figures unwittingly.

Angel had gone through a similar procedure. However, the appearance of these top figures in the Wizards’ Realm often changed, so Sanders had not pressured Angel to memorize the images, instead emphasizing the importance of remembering their distinguishing features.

Issac’s feature was quite distinctive—the afterimage of the Black Dragon was unique to him.

It was rumored that Issac’s Bloodline had fused with that of an Abyssal Dragon… Angel thought of this, and then suddenly paused, his eyes slowly shifting to Fafnir.

Issac had merged with the blood of an Abyssal Dragon? And Fafnir, in her true form, was also an Abyssal Dragon, with a hue tending toward black…

Could it be such a coincidence? Could the bloodline merged into Issac possibly belong to Fafnir’s kin?

“What nonsense are you thinking about?” Fafnir glared angrily at Angel, and although he had said nothing, his expression spoke volumes.

“This person… Issac, right? He indeed has the blood of an Abyssal Dragon in him, but of one that fell into corruption. You know, Binaqionse once mentioned that hundreds of years ago, an Abyssal Dragon fell into corruption and became a Dark Dragon. At that time, the Abyssal Dragon clan hunted it down, but in the end, it still escaped. What is odd, though, is that despite escaping, there were no further signs of it afterward.”

So what Fafnir implied was that the bloodline Issac had merged with belonged to that fallen Dark Dragon?

“It’s possible,” Fafnir nodded, with a hint of gloom flickering in her eyes, “Although a fallen Abyssal Dragon is a betrayer. Even as betrayers, they must be punished by our own hands, not be killed by the despicable humans.”
