Triple X System

The thermal currents grew colder as Kyle, Yua, and Elara ascended toward the upper shelf of the Iron Shallows. Here, the deep violet glow of the abyssal sanctuary faded into a vast, murky grey twilight. Sunlight from the surface world struggled to penetrate these depths, filtering down through thousands of feet of ocean as faint, ghostly ribbons of pale blue light.

The terrain shifted from smooth basalt canyons to sharp, jagged limestone ridges covered in dead coral and black sea sponges. Huge fissures cut through the seabed, occasionally spewing plumes of mineral-rich silt that obscured visibility.

Kyle led the way, his new gauntlet—the *Shadow Stitcher’s Gauntlet*—humming softly against his right forearm. The cold liquid metal felt seamlessly integrated into his nervous system, giving him a constant, passive awareness of every scrap of shade within a hundred-yard radius.

’Snow, map out the terrain,’ Kyle commanded internally, keeping his pace steady as his dark coat drifted in the current.

[Scanning environment,] Snow’s voice chimed smoothly. [Terrain: Upper Iron Shelf. Ambient light level: 12%. Temperature dropping. Three surface transport vessels positioned directly above at depth coordinate 120. Scouting probes detected at three hundred meters ahead.]

”How many probes?” Kyle asked mentally.

[Four medium-range mana-scanners. They are operating on high-frequency light arrays, sweeping the ocean floor in a grid formation.]

”They’re thorough,” Yua noted quietly beside him. She was moving with light, feline agility, hopping from one coral outcrop to another without making a sound. Her crimson eyes reflected the pale surface light. ”They aren’t just searching for Vane’s corpse. They’re dropping surveillance anchors to map the entire upper ridge.”

”Because they know Vane failed,” Elara added, her hand resting on the pommel of her left aquatic dagger. ”The Clover Council doesn’t abandon a sector after a single defeat. They send scouts to collect data, analyze the threat, and calculate the exact force needed to wipe it out.”

Kyle stopped behind a towering ridge of dead coral, peering over the top.

Three hundred yards ahead, floating twenty feet above the seabed, were four spherical metallic devices. Each probe was roughly the size of a carriage, constructed from polished bronze and silver plates stamped with the crest of the surface Spire. From the base of each probe, a thick beam of intense, golden light cut through the murky water, sweeping back and forth like a lighthouse beam searching for ships in a storm.

Whenever the golden light touched the sea floor, the silt sizzled, emitting tiny white bubbles of steam.

’Those aren’t just scanners,’ Kyle thought, his pupils slitting as his *Eyes Of Truth* activated passively. ’They’re loaded with high-density solar charges. If one of those probes detects a demon energy signature, it’s programmed to detonate like a landmine.’

[Analysis correct,] Snow confirmed. [Solar Payload Probes. Detection radius: forty meters. Detonation yield: equivalent to Level 40 Light Strike. Recommend silent neutralisation before advancing.]

”Yua, take the two on the left,” Kyle instructed softly, pointing toward the sweeping light beams. ”Elara, cover the right side if any signal attempts to transmit upward. I’ll take the center two.”

”Understood,” Yua whispered, a predatory glint entering her crimson eyes.

”Be careful,” Elara murmured, her indigo eyes scanning the dark water above the probes. ”The surface mages might be watching through live scrying mirrors attached to those cores.”

”Let them watch,” Kyle said quietly.

He raised his right forearm. The glowing violet runes along the *Shadow Stitcher’s Gauntlet* flared with dark energy as he activated his enhanced shadow skills.

’Shadow Bind.’

[Consuming 80 Shadow Energy. Enhanced by Shadow Stitcher’s Gauntlet: +20% durability.]

From the dark shadow cast by the coral ridge behind them, four pitch-black, ink-like tendrils erupted into the cold water. Enhanced by the gauntlet, the shadow strings were thicker and denser than before, moving through the water with terrifying speed and complete silence.

The black tendrils crossed the three-hundred-yard gap in less than a second, wrapping tightly around the central two probes. The ink-like shadow wrapped directly over the golden lenses at the base of the devices, smothering the light beams before they could complete their sweep.

*Click-click!*

The internal gears of the probes whirred frantically as their sensors registered the sudden blockage, but before the mechanical alarms could signal the surface transports, Kyle tightened his grip.

*CRUNCH!*

The shadow strings constricted violently. The heavy bronze frames of the two central probes buckled and crushed like thin aluminum cans under the crushing pressure. Internal mana crystals shattered silently, their golden light leaking out for half a second before being completely devoured by the surrounding shadows.

Simultaneously, Yua flickered forward like a blood-red phantom. She closed the distance to the leftmost probe in the blink of an eye, her sharp claws coated in dark aura as she struck the main power core from behind.

*SLASH!*

The probe split clean in half, its internal mechanics shredded before it could even register her presence.

The fourth probe tried to tilt upward, its upper dish glowing bright blue as it attempted to broadcast an emergency distress signal to the transport ships above.

”Not so fast,” Elara called out softly.

She lunged from the shadow of a basalt boulder, her twin daggers flashing in a double arc. The water rippled violently as her aquatic mana formed a pressurized blade of water that sheared straight through the probe’s transmission antenna. A split second later, she slammed her boot into the mechanical casing, shattering the main circuit board and sending the wreckage tumbling uselessly into the sand below.

In less than ten seconds, all four scouting probes had been turned into silent scrap metal on the ocean floor.

”Clean,” Yua said, landing softly beside the ruined casing of the first probe. She flicked her wrist, clearing her claws of metallic residue. ”No alarms triggered.”

Kyle walked over, stepping past the crushed bronze plates. He looked up toward the pale, foggy ceiling of the ocean, where the dark, massive silhouettes of the three surface transport ships floated quietly like leviathans asleep in the sky.

’Snow, assess the transports,’ Kyle thought.

[Scanning surface hulls...] Snow paused briefly, a unusual wave of static flickering through the system interface before resolving. [Target 1: Heavy Surface Transport. Target 2: Troop Carrier. Target 3: Unknown Command Vessel.]

Kyle frowned slightly. ’Unknown? You can’t read the command vessel’s hull signature?’

[Warning: High interference detected around Command Vessel,] Snow reported, her voice carrying a faint metallic glitch. [Scanning sensors are encountering an unmapped energy frequency. It is not light mana. It is not dark energy. Energy output exceeds standard surface parameters.]

’An unmapped frequency?’ Kyle’s brow furrowed. He felt a faint, cold prickle at the back of his neck—a subtle sensation that had nothing to do with the freezing abyssal water around him.

”Kyle?” Elara asked, noticing his sudden silence. She stepped up beside him, looking at the dark hulls above. ”What is it?”

”Something isn’t right up there,” Kyle said, his dark eyes narrowing as he stared directly at the central transport ship. ”Vane was an Archmage of the Spire, but his energy was straightforward—pure light, divine arrays, solar anchors. Easy to read.”

”And those ships?” Yua asked, her relaxed demeanor instantly vanishing as her muscles coiled tight.

”The central ship... its energy isn’t behaving like standard light mana,” Kyle murmured.

He activated his *Eyes Of Truth*, focusing his vision through the thick layers of deep water toward the belly of the central transport vessel.

Normally, his inspection skills would reveal a clear breakdown of the targets—class, stats, mana reserves, and structural weaknesses. But as his vision locked onto the command ship, the air before his eyes distorted. A strange, iridescent shimmer hovered around the hull—not golden like the light mages, nor white like the solar anchors, but a cold, blinding silver-white that felt eerily weightless, like starlight frozen into solid glass.

[System Notice: Target inspection partially obstructed by foreign field.]

[Entity detected onboard Command Vessel: Designation Unknown.]

[Warning: Entity presence is exerting passive pressure on local spatial coordinates.]

Kyle felt a sudden, sharp sting in his pupils as his *Eyes Of Truth* snapped back automatically, forcing him to blink away a wave of sudden dizziness.

’What the hell was that?’ Kyle thought, his breathing hitching slightly. ’My Will attribute is 245. Eyes Of Truth shouldn’t fail on a basic inspection unless...’

’Unless the entity on that ship has a Will score higher than mine,’ he realized, his mind racing.

”Kyle!” Yua caught his arm, her red eyes wide with sudden concern. ”Your eyes—they flared purple for a second!”

”I’m fine,” Kyle said, shaking his head to clear the faint ringing in his ears. He looked up again, his gaze fixed on the quiet, stationary silhouette of the central ship. ”There’s something on that ship. Something that wasn’t here when we fought Vane yesterday.”

Elara’s face grew pale. She reached into her pouch, pulling out a small, teardrop-shaped pearl that glowed with deep ocean mana—an ancient merfolk sensing artifact used by royal scouts. She held the pearl in her open palm, channeling a tiny thread of her mana into its core.

The moment her mana touched the pearl, the ocean water around them went dead silent.

The soft, ambient background hum of the thermal vents vanished. The drifting sea kelp stopped swaying. Even the small bioluminescent fish darting through the nearby coral crevices froze in mid-water, their fins paralyzed as if time itself had suddenly slowed down to a crawl.

The pearl in Elara’s hand didn’t glow blue.

Instead, the smooth shell cracked down the center, turning into fine, glittering silver dust that slipped through her fingers and dissolved into the cold water.

”It... it shattered,” Elara whispered, her voice trembling slightly for the first time since they had entered the Iron Shallows. ”The ancestral pearl couldn’t even measure the pressure coming from that ship. Kyle... that isn’t a surface archmage.”

”What is it then?” Yua asked, her claws extending fully as her vampiric instincts flared, sensing danger long before her eyes could see it.

”The merfolk ancient texts speak of them,” Elara said softly, her indigo eyes filled with a deep, instinctual dread. ”When the Spire was built thousand years ago, the surface world didn’t just harness light mana. They made contact with something beyond the sky... beings of pure celestial order. Entities that do not belong to this world or its systems.”

Kyle stood silent, his dark coat heavy in the cold current.

He raised his right hand, looking down at his gauntlet. The dark, living metal of the *Shadow Stitcher’s Gauntlet* was shifting restlessly against his skin, its glowing violet runes pulsing at twice their normal speed, as if the ancient shadow relic itself was reacting to a threat it hadn’t encountered in a thousand years.

’A celestial presence,’ Kyle thought, a cold, dangerous thrill rising through the tension in his chest. ’The Clover Council didn’t just send reinforcements. They sent something down from the stars.’

Above them, deep within the shadow of the central transport ship, a single point of cold, silver light flickered into existence, staring down into the dark abyss like an unblinking eye.
