Triple X System

The first leap off the ridge took them into a world of suffocating, blinding heat.

Below, the Black River churned like a serpent made of liquid tar, belching thick plumes of dark smoke that hit the outer curve of Elara’s light barrier like heavy grease. The acidic vapors hissed violently against the golden magic, eating away at the boundary and forcing Elara to scream through her gritted teeth as she pushed her remaining mana to its absolute limit to keep the air breathable.

Kyle slammed down onto the first obsidian stone with two children tucked under his left arm and Marcus’s teenage grandson gripped tight in his right hand.

The stone—a jagged slab of volcanic glass no wider than a dining table—was slick with black condensation. The moment his shadow-infused boots hit the wet surface, his feet began to slide toward the boiling black liquid.

[Kyle! Balance to your center!] Snow’s voice rang inside his skull, sharp and perfectly grounded, carrying no panic—only absolute, steady clarity. [The stone is tilting six degrees to the left under the added weight! Shift your demon energy to your right heel now!]

Kyle reacted instantly. He planted his right foot hard, dark shadow-essence flaring from his boot to bite directly into the obsidian glass like iron cleats, stabilizing the platform just as it crested the peak of its twelve-second magnetic cycle.

”Hold on to me!” Kyle shouted to the terrified kids clinging to his neck. Their eyes were wide, tears streaking through the soot on their cheeks, but not a single one let out a scream—they remembered his warning from the forest.

To his left, Yua landed beside him on an adjacent stone with impossible, fluid grace.

Five glowing, crimson threads spun out from her fingertips, wrapping securely around the waists of four women and an elderly man who were levitating just inches behind her in the air, cushioned by her **[Sanguine Veil]**. Her pale skin was flushed bright red as her blood core burned at high output to maintain the levitation weight against the heavy gravity of the riverbed.

”Kyle!” Yua called out over the deafening roar of the acidic river, her dark hair flying in the scalding wind. ”The middle pillar is sinking faster than the outer rocks! The cycle is accelerating!”

[She’s correct!] Snow chimed, her presence warm and fiercely focused in Kyle’s mind. [The planetary heartbeat is speeding up! The next row of obsidian stones will submerge in two seconds instead of four! You must double-leap directly to the center ridge!]

”Elara! Move!” Kyle roared, looking across the fifty-yard gap.

Elara didn’t hesitate. She launched herself forward from the riverbank, her wand held high as the golden air-sphere moved with her, encompassing both Kyle, Yua, and the first group of refugees mid-air. She landed on a massive, stationary pillar of black basalt rising from the center of the river, her knees giving out the moment her boots touched the stone.

She collapsed onto her hands and knees, blood dripping from her nose as the sheer mental strain of maintaining a forty-foot atmospheric bubble in a high-toxin environment began to tear at her spirit core.

”I... I have the anchor!” Elara gasped out, her wand trembling as she pressed her forehead against the hot basalt. ”Bring... bring the rest!”

Yua landed on the central pillar a second later, releasing her crimson blood-tethers and lowering the four women and the old man safely to the ground beside Elara. She turned back instantly toward the shore where the remaining thirty-five refugees were standing in terror, looking across the churning black abyss.

”I’m going back for the next group!” Yua said, her breath coming in short, ragged hitches. Her lips were pale, the immense strain of using high-tier blood magic without recent feeding showing in the faint, dark circles forming under her eyes.

Kyle caught her by the shoulder as she turned to leap. ”Yua, wait! Your core—”

Yua looked back at him, her crimson eyes blazing with a fierce, beautiful intensity that made his breath catch in his throat. She reached up, cupping the side of his face with her cool, blood-stained palm, her thumb pressing softly against his cheek.

”I am a pureblood vampire, Kyle Conner,” she whispered, her voice laced with a mixture of quiet pride and deep, unshakable devotion. ”And I am *yours*. I won’t break over a river of mud. Cover my retreat.”

Before he could argue, she pushed off the central pillar, vanishing into a flash of scentless red mist as she launched herself back across the twenty-five-yard gap toward the shore.

[She is strong, Kyle,] Snow said softly in his head, her voice carrying a quiet sense of admiration. [Trust her. Focus on the riverbed—something is rising from the black liquid behind her trajectory.]

Kyle’s eyes snapped back to the dark current.

Through his **[Kirlin Eyes]**, the black, opaque liquid suddenly revealed distinct, massive shapes moving beneath the surface. They weren’t rocks. They were long, segmented creatures made of dark, skeletal bone, their long ribs acting as oars as they swam rapidly against the current toward the landing stones.

**[Target Identified: Black-Nile Leeches (A-Rank Subterranean Entities)]**

**Quantity:** 8

**Behavior:** Ambusher / Vitality Drain

**Danger Level:** High (Acidic Saliva / Bone Corrosion)

”Elara! Watch the base of the pillar!” Kyle barked, stepping in front of the young children he had just deposited on the central rock.

A massive, bone-plated head erupted from the black sludge five feet below Elara’s ledge. The creature had no eyes—only a gaping, circular maw lined with concentric rings of hollow, needle-like teeth dripping with sizzling black acid. It let out a wet, raspy shriek that rattled the loose gravel on the basalt pillar.

”Get away from her!”

Kyle didn’t draw a breath. He stepped forward, planting his left foot hard into the rock.

**[Transformation]**

[Consuming 400 Demon Energy...]

Dark, glistening demonic scales erupted across Kyle’s skin, hardening his chest and arms as his stats instantly doubled. His right leg elongated, the jagged, void-forged armor of the **[Abyssal Talon Manifest]** wrapping around his boot with a roar of dark shadow-mist.

He lunged downward off the edge of the pillar, driving his right leg straight into the open maw of the rising leech!

*BOOM!*

**[Passive Proc: Soul Rend + 25% Armor Bypass]**

The shadow claw tore straight through the creature’s bone-plated jaws, caving in its hollow skull with horrifying force. Black, acidic blood sprayed across the river, but Kyle’s dark scales deflected the corrosive fluid before it could touch his flesh.

**[Passive Proc: Abyssal Reflex]**

A massive, spectral shadow claw erupted from his talon, slashing downward through the beast’s twenty-foot segmented body, tearing it completely in half before it could even register the strike.

The dying creature collapsed back into the churning river, its black blood dissolving in the current.

Kyle landed back on the basalt pillar in a low, three-point crouch, his eyes glowing with lethal, dark red light as he scanned the water.

Behind him, a flash of red mist signaled Yua’s return. She materialized on the central pillar, carrying six more refugees with her crimson tethers, her forehead drenched in sweat as she dropped to one knee, panting heavily.

”Seven more leaps,” Yua gritted out through her teeth, wiping a bead of blood from her lip as she looked at Kyle. ”We have to do this seven more times.”

Kyle walked over to her, kneeling beside her and taking her hand. He channeled a small pulse of his own demonic vitality through their blood link, feeling her core hungrily absorb the energy to stabilize her breath.

”We do it together,” Kyle said, looking down into her shining red eyes before turning his gaze toward the remaining refugees waiting on the shore. ”Snow, track the leech movements! Elara, hold that ward for five more minutes!”

”I’ll hold it if it kills me!” Elara yelled back through her bleeding nose, her golden eyes blazing with absolute defiance as she drove the butt of her wand deeper into the black stone.

[Heartbeat cycle aligning in four seconds, Kyle!] Snow warned, her voice ringing clear, confident, and alive inside his mind. [Prepare for the next cross-leap! You are breaking through this river!]

Kyle pulled Yua to her feet, their hands locked tight, and together they launched themselves back into the dark wind of Planet Kraken.
