Chapter 945: Chapter 189: Uncertain Fate

The old Nun’s emergency treatment went smoothly, and at the same time, Mr. Isam’s child in the village had also recovered from the high fever.

This was delightful news.

However, the old Nun hadn’t woken up yet due to the medication, but Charlotte’s expression had eased a lot, clearly relieved.

“Charlotte, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back first.” Mr. Isam walked into the ward, “I’ll come to pick up the old Nun once she’s discharged.”

“Thank you for your trouble, Mr. Isam.” Charlotte said gratefully.

This Mr. Isam laughed heartily, “It’s no trouble at all… By the way, if you have any difficulties regarding expenses, do let me know, and I’ll find a way to help.”

Charlotte smiled and said, “No need to worry about the expenses. I’ve already contacted the church here. The main cathedral will cover the old Nun’s treatment costs.”

“Oh… that’s really great.” Mr. Isam nodded and said with emotion, “I guess having faith pays off.”

Charlotte smiled, “If mutual aid between people disappeared, we would probably have vanished long ago too.”

“That’s true.” Mr. Isam nodded.

Charlotte stood up, placing her palm on Mr. Isam’s forehead, offering him a blessing—not like Bucky’s visible blessing, but just a simple ceremony.

Or rather, a blessing of the soul.

Before leaving, Mr. Isam suddenly said, “Oh, that child is still outside… Do you need me to take her back? She seems a bit strange, maybe I should help take care of her for a few days?”

Charlotte had no choice but to say, “That child can’t be too far from me and the old Nun… It’s fine, I’ll go find her in a bit.”

Not understanding the true meaning of not being able to leave too far, Mr. Isam thought it simply meant the child would throw a tantrum if she didn’t see people—after all, she was already quite troublesome at the village clinic.

“Alright then, if you need anything, just give me a call.” Mr. Isam nodded, “I’ll come right away.”

A very good person.

Charlotte watched Mr. Isam’s departing figure, thinking silently to herself.

Good people will receive good things in return… The old Nun always said this.

…

Smoking was not allowed inside the hospital, but obviously, Mr. Isam was someone with the habit, so after leaving the main hall, he went to the parking lot and lit a cigarette.

He exhaled a long stream of smoke and looked at the sky… By the time he got back to the village, it would probably be very late. With the child’s condition improved and the old Nun returning, Mr. Isam suddenly felt immensely satisfied.

He suddenly craved his wife’s thick stew.

He walked towards his car, but after only a few steps, he saw Lucifer sitting on a bench in the parking lot.

Had this child been sitting here without moving from the start?

Mr. Isam frowned, subconsciously approaching the child—he remembered the things this child said at the village clinic, feeling they didn’t sound like things a little girl could say… so cold and driving people to a mental dead end.

Suddenly, Lucifer slowly raised her head… Half-lifted, her eyes just visible, with a strange smile on her face.

Mr. Isam suddenly felt a chill, an eerie sensation… A child’s smile, which should be innocent and pure, seemed terrifying on her.

“What is going on with this child…”

He even had to shiver, his hand shook, and the cigarette he was holding slipped and fell to the ground… Mr. Isam came back to his senses, secretly wondering how he got scared by such a little child.

Mr. Isam shook his head, chuckled at himself, then bent over to pick up the cigarette butt, but at that moment, he felt a stabbing pain in his back.

Once, and then again—two successive sharp pains!

Mr. Isam’s pupils instantly dilated, and he screamed in agony, but his strong body allowed him to barely hold on. Mr. Isam swung his hand backward fiercely, seemingly hitting something.

In pain, he clutched his lower back, standing unsteadily—his back was clearly stabbed by someone with a knife, not once but twice… Blood was gushing out.

And Mr. Isam then saw who the attacker was!

A man with a twisted expression, haggard, filled with despair, fear, and panic, wearing patient clothing… He looked about twenty-five or six years old.

In his hand, there was a small knife—the blade already stained with bright red blood.

“What do you want! Why did you attack me!” Mr. Isam roared angrily at the man, the pain forcing him to kneel to the ground, cold sweat pouring out.

“I don’t want to die… I don’t want to die… I don’t want to die…”

However, the young patient seemed deaf to Mr. Isam’s angry curses. At this moment, he was just shivering, lowering his head and murmuring to himself, “I don’t want to die… I’m so young… why… why… why…”

“You bastard…” Mr. Isam painfully furrowed his brows. At this moment, he needed help from others; he needed to stop the bleeding, and he needed someone to restrain this mentally unstable male patient. “Anyone, please help! Help!!”

Ugh—!

Suddenly, the male patient dropped his head, holding a knife in both hands, and charged at Mr. Isam again—this time, directly stabbing into Mr. Isam’s abdomen.

Mr. Isam’s eyes widened in shock, as wide as they could go.

The male patient withdrew the knife and then stabbed it back in, then withdrew it again—his face twisted with despair and riotous laughter, “Why me! Why me… why did I get AIDS, why! I don’t want to die… all of you go and die! Hahaha… hahahahaha… hahahahahahaha!! Die, die, die, die, die!!”

Tears streamed down his face as he laughed, “Die, die, die!!”

Mr. Isam eventually fell into a pool of blood, and someone in the parking lot let out a scream. Then, several people rushed over and pinned the mad male patient to the ground.

At that moment, Isam now only felt his body turn cold, his vision blurred, he seemed to see Charlotte emerging from the entrance of the parking lot.

Charlotte covered her mouth, with eyes widened, and quickly ran towards him… He then instinctively looked at the child sitting on the bench.

He found the child still showed him an irregular smile. Suddenly, Mr. Isam understood what this smile meant.

Despair.

“Mr. Isam! Mr. Isam! Sir!! Help, someone… anyone, help!”

Charlotte rushed over, holding the blood-soaked Mr. Isam, crying bitterly.

At this time, Isam’s lips moved, as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately he could not utter a single word and then directly passed out.

…

The sky had completely turned black, the parking lot appeared cool and Lucifer still sat here alone, looking up at the stars in the sky, seeming in a good mood.

Suddenly, Charlotte slowly walked over, her right hand tightly gripping her left elbow, and came in front of Lucifer.

Charlotte’s face was pale, “The doctor said Mr. Isam’s heart was stabbed many times… treatment was ineffective.”

“Oh, is that so?” Lucifer replied indifferently: “Well, that’s truly a pity, he was such a good man. A righteous and kind heart, what a pity, a pity. But the moment that glow vanished before us, it’s really quite joyful.”

Charlotte looked at Lucifer, her eyes never blinking, her voice low: “The murderer is said to be an AIDS patient who has been receiving treatment for a long time, but it was ineffective, eventually leading to mental instability and thoughts of revenge against society.”

“Such things aren’t uncommon, nothing remarkable about it.” Lucifer shrugged.

“It’s you, isn’t it…” Charlotte suddenly asked.

Lucifer said nothing, just looked up at Charlotte.

At this moment, Charlotte seemed triggered, suddenly rushed up, grabbed Lucifer’s collar, screaming: “It’s you, isn’t it! It’s you! You’re the one behind this, aren’t you!! It’s you who did this!! It’s you!!!!”

The tightened collar caused the skin on Lucifer’s neck to contract, but still, she looked at Charlotte expressionlessly, coldly saying: “I ask, did you see it yourself.”

“It was you!! At the village clinic, you almost drove the doctor insane with your words… it was you!! You devil!!!”

“I am the Devil.” Lucifer coldly smirked: “Always have been, didn’t you already know… Furthermore, answer me, did you see me do anything with your own eyes?”

“Except for you!!” Charlotte cried out in pain.

“Except for me then…” Lucifer said indifferently: “Sure, except for me. Alright then, just take me as the real culprit. After all, humanity isn’t already used to setting a target for itself to release all its sadness, pain, and anger? And it so happens that target is me… a devil, quite fitting, isn’t it. But…”

Lucifer suddenly squinted mockingly: “Your God, does he allow you to do this… to vent your anger.”

Charlotte suddenly raised her hand.

“Oh, violence too, is it,” Lucifer said indifferently.

Charlotte’s body suddenly shuddered, her arm froze, trembling. She bit her lip, looking at Lucifer’s childlike innocent yet cold and merciless eyes, suddenly knelt on the ground.

“Tell me…” Charlotte once again gripped Lucifer’s collar, burying her head in it. “Tell me… why! Why exactly… Mr. Isam was clearly… clearly such a good person… why, why!”

“Who can… tell me!!”

“Who told you good people wouldn’t die.” Lucifer whispered to her: “This is the human mainland, not the church you always stayed in with Holy Light and Maria… this is reality.”

Charlotte weakly released her hands, then collapsed sitting on the ground.
