Chapter 919: Chapter 163: That Day Will Come

After going through numerous procedures, Ouyang Jie retrieved Uncle Jin’s belongings from the bank’s safe deposit box but didn’t open it immediately.

Before departing, Zhong Luoyue arranged a comfortable hotel suite for Ouyang Jie locally, though such an action seemed somewhat meaningless to the one left behind, but it was better than nothing.

Additionally, although the hotel was nice, it was naturally not comparable to those under the Song Dynasty’s chain. However, considering the relationship between Song Ying and Zhong Luoyue, Ouyang Jie had no complaints.

Ironically named for “rest.”

It was a vacation home-style hotel near the seaside.

Ouyang Jie drew all the curtains in the room, then carefully opened the items Uncle Jin left in the bank’s safe deposit box: a box.

But there’s no key; it’s a combination lock box — staring at the array of numbers on the lock, Ouyang Jie found himself at a loss… This box appears specially made, seemingly not easily opened with brute force.

It’s likely that if forcibly opened from the outside, the items inside might be damaged.

Ouyang Jie unconsciously bit his finger — these things were left to him by Uncle Jin, but Uncle Jin never gave him any hints about a password.

This meant the password might be something Ouyang Jie inherently knew, or something connected between him and Uncle Jin.

Feeling a sudden inspiration, Ouyang Jie quickly input a series of numbers — it was the date when he was rescued by Uncle Jin after leaving the orphanage, and coincidentally, the numbers matched the required number of digits for the lock.

“YES!”

Accompanied by the click of the lock opening, Ouyang Jie instinctively clenched his fist. He exhaled, beginning to carefully open the box.

Inside there weren’t many items, just a few: a CD, a voice recorder, a sealed test tube about twenty centimeters long, and a Jade Lock carved with the word “Ouyang.”

Moreover, at the bottom of the box were several documents. Ouyang Jie took a look, discovering they were proof of all Uncle Jin’s assets and property records, as well as contracts transferring all assets under his name to Ouyang Jie.

Being taught by the legendary “God of Gamblers” Tu Shenyi, Ouyang Jie’s mental calculation skills were naturally outstanding. After a rough estimate, he discovered the inheritance left by Uncle Jin was surprisingly extensive.

Among these inheritance transfer documents, Ouyang Jie also found a birth certificate.

No father’s name, only the mother’s name recorded as “Ouyang” — the birth certificate was in Hua Country’s script… Ouyang Jie rubbed his brow, instinctively picking up the Jade Lock from the box. The “Ouyang” carved on it seemed linked to his own origins.

But, as far as Ouyang Jie remembered, he’d never seen such a thing — yet this was left to him by Uncle Jin… So where did Uncle Jin obtain this Jade Lock?

“Uncle Jin… what exactly are you hiding from me?” Ouyang Jie took a deep breath, picking up the voice recorder and pressing the play button.

Uncle Jin’s voice.

“A Jie, if you’re hearing this recording, it means I’ve encountered an accident. I’m primarily telling you a few things here, you can decide how to proceed.”

Ouyang Jie placed the recorder on the table, sitting upright.

“First, regarding the matter that, without a doubt, you’re my biological son. I placed you in the orphanage, and later, when you fled from there, I had no choice but to bring you to my side. Tu Shenyi agreed to take you in as a disciple as a favor to me.”

At this moment, Ouyang Jie’s mind went blank, instinctively pausing the recording, as he needed time to digest what Uncle Jin had just revealed.

Father… Uncle Jin was his biological father?

All these years, his father had been beside him? Overwhelmed by a desire to know more, Ouyang Jie pressed play again.

“…I don’t expect you to forgive me, I’m merely sharing a piece of the past. As ‘Gambling Demon’ Jin Wucheng, I was ruthless, having numerous enemies, and your birth was an accident. I didn’t want your existence to become a liability, so I abandoned you. ‘Ouyang’ is your mother’s surname; the Jade Lock in the box was left by your mother for you. As for your mother, honestly, I didn’t know her background either. From our meeting to parting, it was just a matter of days, yet a year later, someone brought you to me.”

“I mentioned, without doubt, you’re my child; this was confirmed through tests… I’m sorry for shattering your previous fantasy of your biological parents.”

Hearing this, Ouyang Jie couldn’t help but smile wryly… he felt little resentment towards Uncle Jin, just struggling to accept the truth immediately.

As someone engaged in the gambling world himself, Ouyang Jie was keenly aware of the dangers inherent in the industry — he was also someone hesitant yet longing for connection.

“That’s all regarding your origins. Next, I’ll address why I’ve spent over a decade alongside Tu Shenyi.”

“Tu Shenyi, the ‘God of Gamblers’ we often speak of, the man who took a finger from me, is different from us. He’s not human, but a blood-drinking devil; he’s the legendary bloodsucker.”

Ouyang Jie’s hand trembled.

Afraid he misheard, he rewound the recording and listened again.

“…he’s not human, but a blood-drinking devil; he’s the legendary bloodsucker.”

Once more.

“…he’s not human, but a blood-drinking devil; he’s the legendary bloodsucker.”

Again.

“…he’s not human, but a blood-drinking devil; he’s the legendary bloodsucker.”

Finally, Ouyang Jie stopped rewinding, recalling the hospital incident — the government and military’s lockdown, the silent overnight disposal of deceased patients, and Zhong Luoyue’s avoidance discussing the matter, all revealing to Ouyang Jie that what he encountered wasn’t mere ‘Zombie Bath Salts’ victims, but real zombies.

Given the existence of such unnatural beings like zombies, then the possibility of bloodsuckers… could be real too?

Ouyang Jie picked up the test tube from the box.

“…During that period, I extracted this blood from Tu Shenyi. In fact, I’ve drawn quite a bit of his blood for research, yet to this day, I’ve been unable to decode the components of a bloodsucker’s blood. If you’re interested, explore it yourself. I’ve set up a lab in Los Angeles, part of the assets I’ve left for you.”

The latter part contained extensive details about Uncle Jin’s years of research into bloodsuckers — weaknesses he discovered, feeding habits, numerous insights… but these weren’t what Ouyang Jie truly wanted to hear.

What he yearned for had already been overshadowed by Uncle Jin’s initial words in this recording… such a heartless man.

Yet, the memories of time spent with Uncle Jin at the Vineyard Castle, the bits and pieces, surfaced at this moment, and Ouyang Jie’s eyes began to glisten with tears.

It was unknown how long it took before Ouyang Jie calmed down a bit… and suddenly, he remembered a question.

He remembered that he was indeed bitten by a zombie, but when he had a check-up at the hospital, there were no abnormalities. No matter what kind of examination, he passed safely; otherwise, even the pressure from the U.S. Embassy wouldn’t have been enough to release him so easily.

“Why am I… okay?”

He couldn’t figure it out and had to bury the question in his heart for now.

Later, it took Ouyang Jie quite some time to calm himself down. After that, he used the hotel’s equipment to open the last thing in the box that he hadn’t examined yet: the disc.

However, the moment Ouyang Jie saw the contents of the disc, his previously calm state was instantly shattered — he was shocked, terrified, and even felt cold as he watched the video content on the disc frame by frame.

It was actually a cruel video of vampires hunting humans — in the video, there was an elderly woman who, after feeding, became beautiful. It was someone Ouyang Jie knew, Lady Eve, a friend of his mentor Tu Shenyi, who came to the castle for vacations every year.

And then there were the leech-like monsters — transforming from human appearance to monster form and then back to human again.

At this moment, Ouyang Jie felt as if life was a nightmare, with all the bad things following one after another so relentlessly.

On this day, Ouyang Jie didn’t leave the room of this vacation hotel at all.

…

…

The scenery on the highway was flying past.

This was Song Ying’s beloved car, an ultra sports car that could definitely catch eyes on the road — there were only two people in the car at this time, Song Ying and Luo Qiu.

It was the early hours of the morning, and Luo Qiu was dragged out of the room by Song Ying with the excuse of finding someone to race on the highway. Because of his emphasis on keeping a consistent sleep schedule, Luo Qiu initially suggested Song Haoran, who seemed to enjoy nightlife.

But Song Ying said she couldn’t find Song Haoran and didn’t know where he went.

So Luo Qiu kept recommending others — the final outcome was that he was personally selected by Song Ying. Later, Luo Qiu realized that his strategy of refusal was wrong from the start; he should have agreed initially, then Song Ying might have decided to stand him up because of his quick agreement.

“You say no no, but I’ll still want you want… something like that.”

“Miss Ying, you’re speeding. This is dangerous, please slow down.”

Though the car only held Song Ying and Luo Qiu, there wasn’t just one sports car on the highway — there was also a white Alfa Romeo tightly following them, driven by Gan Hong.

“This isn’t even my top speed. Let’s see if you can keep up!” Song Ying immediately turned off the car’s communication device and stepped on the accelerator again.

An even stronger sense of acceleration immediately ensued… For someone who loves racing, Luo Qiu seemed naturally helpless.

He steadied himself and asked, “You seem to have something on your mind?”

“When are you leaving?” Song Ying asked instead of answering, looking at Luo Qiu earnestly and saying, “Last time, you told me you wouldn’t stay long at the Song Family. But did you know, even if you leave now, my grandfather is already reluctant to let you go… His kindness to you exceeded my expectations.”

“So… do you want me to leave?” Luo Qiu asked softly.

Song Ying suddenly slammed on the brakes, and due to inertia, both of their bodies leaned forward. When the entire sports car came to a halt, deep tire marks had already appeared on the road… including those from Gan Hong’s Alfa Romeo.

“No, what I hope is for you not to leave.” After stopping the car, Song Ying turned her head, with her pink and purple long hair covering her left cheek, looking extremely serious.

“Why.” Luo Qiu responded calmly, “Miss Ying seems to never like me. Wouldn’t it be a good thing for you if I left?”

Song Ying stared at Luo Qiu, her eyes unblinking, and said very seriously, “I am me, and Grandpa is Grandpa. Even if I don’t like it, as long as it’s what Grandpa wishes, I’ll do my best to achieve it. You know, I’ve never seen my Grandpa accommodate someone like this, like how he did tonight. You’re the first.”

Luo Qiu thought for a moment, realizing that it was likely due to what Mr. Blind said at the memorial hall, but to Song Ying, it seemed to have taken on a different tone.

He shook his head and said, “Old Master Song’s affection for Miss Ying comes from his heart, and Miss Ying, there’s no need for you.”

Song Ying suddenly said, “I remember telling you that my parents died in a car accident, right? But this accident was a premeditated conspiracy, orchestrated by someone the villagers had disrupted in the past during a mission, a royal family from a small country.”

Song Ying sighed, leaning back in the driver’s seat, holding the steering wheel with both hands… It seemed as if she wanted to hold onto something. You could tell she was exerting herself.

“That was the first and only time I saw my grandpa cry like that.” Song Ying recalled, “I was lying in a hospital bed alone, and the doctors said it was because of the car accident shock. But the truth is, I had already come back to my senses, but I didn’t dare to open my eyes… Later, when I opened my eyes, I saw Grandpa sitting by my side, covering his eyes with his hand… You know? Neither I nor anyone in the village could imagine at that moment that Song Tianyou could be such a helpless person.”

She turned, her face bearing a faint smile, “You probably find it laughable, right? A family founded on warfare, constantly killing, will naturally face a day of being killed themselves… I’ve long since forgotten about my parents and don’t hate anyone. But from the day I saw Grandpa cry in front of me, I secretly vowed to myself. I told myself I must bring the Song family out of this abyss. So what if we made our fortune through warfare? I can invest, I can learn to invest, I can transfer all of Song family’s wealth from darkness to light. I can cleanse the Song family… One day, I’ll make the Song family a white family, not a black one… One day, I want Grandpa to never have to worry about his loved ones dying from vendetta. One day, I want him to enjoy his old age in peace, one day… such a day will come.”

Luo Qiu listened quietly. At this moment, Song Ying was at her most beautiful, just like that day in the Song Dynasty hotel when she warned Luo Qiu after dealing with a cheat at the casino.

That kind of dedication, pouring everything into protecting your loved ones.

“You know? Later, when Uncle Wu told me that Grandpa cried secretly the night he met you and then slept exceptionally well, I was more jealous than ever, but… his happiness was unprecedented.”

Song Ying suddenly grabbed Luo Qiu’s hand seriously and said, “So, I hope you can promise me, not to leave unless absolutely necessary, to stay with the Song family, to stay by my grandfather’s side.”

Luo Qiu slowly released himself from Song Ying’s grasp and shook his head, “Miss Ying, maintaining feelings for loved ones is beautiful. But if you force others because of this, what should be judged?”

“The world is full of people, either living for themselves or for others.” Song Ying resolutely responded, “How can I care about all that!”

“I can’t stay at the Song family for long.” Luo Qiu finally shook his head, “But…”

He did not finish his sentence when Luo Qiu frowned.

On the highway, several black sedans suddenly sped toward them, fierce-looking men got out, surrounding the two sports cars temporarily stopped by the roadside…
