The Golem Mage

694: Another Gordons.

694: Another Gordons.

“Pick your next fighter,” the red-haired referee said, turning toward Alec.

Since the Bloodline Academy had chosen the first fighter in the previous round, it was now War God Academy’s turn to send someone up first to the stage.

Meanwhile, among the committee members observing the match, unease began to grow, they had deliberately pushed for this five-versus-five format, hoping to diminish War God Academy’s chances of securing even a single win.

However, after witnessing the first match and how drastically it deviated from their expectations, a sour feeling crept over them.

Arthur had not only dominated but had done so convincingly, many committee members realized that Connor hadn’t even forced Arthur to unsheathe the sword strapped to his back, which they felt was likely his weapon of choice.

This revelation made them question their assumptions about the War God Academy’s mages.

“Brandon, why don’t you take care of this one?

I’ve got a good feeling about it,” Alec said, confidently selecting the next mage to step into the arena.

Brandon rose from his seat without hesitation and walked toward the stage, though many were still surprised by Alec’s unconventional choices, but the rest of the team didn’t voice any complaints.

Instead, they watched silently, placing their faith in Alec’s judgment.

On the other side of the stage, Damien, the Bloodline Academy strategist, frowned as Brandon approached the stage, his irritation grew with every step the War God Academy mage took.

Damien couldn’t tell if Brandon was just a bluff or another wildcard from Alec just like Arthur had turned out to be, this uncertainty gnawed at him.

Damien had meticulously investigated Alec, Beatrice, Lucas, and Pale, believing they were the only mages on the War God Academy team worth worrying about.

In fact, Damien had been so dismissive of War God Academy’s chances that he had assumed they would never pose a real threat.

Still, he had conducted his research as a precaution, following the age-old maxim: Know your enemy, and you might win the battle.

Yet Alec’s choice of Arthur in the first round had shattered his predictions making him confused, as Damien knew nothing about Arthur and had assumed the mage would be an easy target for Connor.

But Connor’s defeat, however, proved him wrong and left him uneasy, now, with Brandon stepping into the spotlight, Damien found himself unsure whether this was another unpredictable move from Alec or a sign of something worse.

Not only had Damien’s prediction been completely wrong, but he was also in a difficult position now, he was struggling to decide who should face Brandon, as he lacked any information or knowledge about Brandon Gordons, making it nearly impossible to make a clear decision.

Damien hadn’t felt this stressed in a long time, and he hated that Alec seemed to have the upper hand in this mental battle they appeared to be engaged in.

Soren Dragonmir was originally supposed to step onto the stage and continue the fight; that was the initial plan he had drafted out.

But now, Damien was having second thoughts, he couldn’t afford to let the War God Mage Academy secure another point, as that would not only put the Bloodline Academy on edge but also give the War God Academy the crowd’s support.

And after witnessing the fanatic behaviour of the War God Academy fans, Damien was determined to prevent them from gaining further momentum.

‘What am I supposed to do in this situation?

I can’t just send Soren, what if this guy is stronger than him?

Should I send Carmilla instead and let her handle it?

He thought.

‘No, I planned for her to fight that Lucas guy, Alec will definitely use him at some point.

Ugh, all this scheming without any real knowledge of my enemy’s true battle power is exhausting.’

Damien reached for his blood flask, gulping it down in an attempt to calm himself.

“Soren, get on the stage!

It’s your turn don’t waste my time!” Dragov’s voice cut through his thoughts.

Dragov seemed irritated, clearly displeased that his team was hesitating to step onto the stage.

Seeing Dragov take charge, Damien leaned back in his chair, trying to calm himself further.

As he weighed their chances, he still believed they had a good shot at victory—even if Soren lost her match.

All they had to do was secure three wins with Carmilla, himself, and Dragov.

He had enough faith in their abilities and he believes they could still come out as the overall winners.

For now, he just needed to settle his nerves and refocus, he had been playing mental games for far too long.

Unaware that he was being drawn into the game himself, the Bloodline Academy fans shouted angrily, expecting Soren to draw blood and avenge the humiliation of their first defeat.

Soren walked onto the stage with a long sword at his waist, moving elegantly with a light smile on his face.

His academy uniform fit him perfectly, accentuating his charm as he carried himself with confidence.

As he reached the stage, he finally got a proper look at Brandon, the opponent wore the black-and-red Tier 4 uniform of the War God Academy team, with his slaughter saber at his waist and the Tranquillity Sword strapped to his back, fully wrapped like a mummified treasure.

“Representing the War God Academy team is none other than Brandon Gordons, the second Gordons to step onto the stage today!

And representing the Bloodline Academy, a descendant of the Dragonmir clan, Soren Dragonmir!” the referee announced, hyping up the crowd for the next fight.

His words helped divert the Bloodline Academy fans’ focus from their earlier loss, reigniting their spirits.

“Seems like you can’t afford scabbards for both your weapons, so you settled for just one,” Soren quipped as he drew his sword and took a stance.

Brandon, however, merely shrugged at the remark, his left hand resting calmly on the long hilt of his Saber.

His silence made Soren feel as though he was being looked down on, but Brandon simply found it pointless to exchange words when they’d soon be clashing swords anyway.

“Begin!”

Bang!

The referee’s call to start ignited the stage, as if two firebombs had exploded where the fighters once stood.

Both mages charged at each other from different angles, matching each other’s speed perfectly.
