Chapter 1559: Chapter 25: Battle on the Train

On the sunlit plains, a train billowing black smoke sped past, startling the birds resting in the grass.

An old-fashioned train, verdant meadows, mountains of varying heights in the distance—the whole scenery was picturesque. In this era, trains were powered by coal alone. If admired at night, sparks could be seen shooting from the train’s chimney, akin to movie special effects.

Su Xiao leapt onto the last carriage. After observation, this train had a total of 15 carriages; excluding the cockpit and coal room at the front, only 13 were for the passengers. The witch named Mira was inside these 13 carriages, though which specific one remained unknown for now.

Su Xiao couldn’t rashly trace the witch’s whereabouts now. He was in the dark, the enemy in the light. Such a good opportunity couldn’t be wasted.

With this thought, Su Xiao jumped down from the top of the carriage. D·Assassin appeared in his hand, which he then tucked into his waist and concealed under his garment. He pushed open the rear door of the last carriage and stepped inside.

The train carriage was about three meters wide. The last carriage was empty, without seats. On both sides were wooden boxes of various sizes, with a walkway in the middle.

No sooner did Su Xiao enter than a shotgun was aimed at him by the guard within the carriage.

Although train travel was convenient and fast, given the poor communication of this era, train robbery was definitely a viable trade. Over time, the train crew was replaced with burly fellows, each armed with a gun.

The shotgun was lowered just as it was aimed at Su Xiao because the burly man saw the ring in Su Xiao’s hand—a symbol recognized by few, representing the Witch Hunter.

”Shh~”

Su Xiao held his index finger to his lips, and the bearded crew member hurriedly nodded.

”Do you need me to do anything?”

The Big Beard swallowed hard. The appearance of a Witch Hunter in such a manner basically meant the train had a witch aboard.

”Diamond?”

Su Xiao glanced at the shotgun in the Big Beard’s hand.

”Iron sand...”

”Then guard the rear door of the next carriage. If anyone jumps off during this, bang.”

”Understood.”

As Big Beard began taking off his coat, Su Xiao understood his intention—to disguise himself as crew.

”Must kill the witch on the train.”

As Big Beard spoke, his jaw muscles protruded. It was evident he might have lost family to a witch.

After hesitating a moment, Su Xiao took off his ring, put on Big Beard’s coat, and also took his shotgun, replacing the iron sand inside with diamond.

”Have you been outside during this time?”

”Never been out, I’m responsible for guarding the cargo here. They’re all copper mines.”

”Very good.”

Su Xiao patted Big Beard’s shoulder. As he was about to step towards the next carriage, Big Beard suddenly called out to him in a low voice.

”The front carriage also has cargo. The guard inside is called Matt, and the carriage is filled with gunpowder. Carriages 3 to 14 are for passengers.”

”Hmm.”

Su Xiao stepped up to the front of the 14th carriage and directly knocked on the iron door at the rear.

With a swish, the viewing port on the iron door was pulled open. Big Beard leaned in and said something to the guard inside the 14th carriage. Guard Matt slowly came to the front of the carriage, observed for a moment, then returned to open the door at the rear.

”Is there a witch?”

Matt’s voice was very low, his hands trembling uncontrollably.

”Don’t make a fuss.”

Big Beard cooperatively began whispering something to Matt, while discreetly gesturing to Su Xiao to indicate that Matt was left to him.

Su Xiao came to the front of the 14th carriage. Because the cargo was gunpowder, a hazardous material, the 14th carriage was nearly sealed.

Opening the iron door of the 14th carriage, Su Xiao, with the shotgun slung over his shoulder, entered the 13th carriage. Starting from here, the carriages were for passengers. Seats lined both sides, each able to accommodate two, with four facing each other—meaning two people would have their backs to Su Xiao.

The train roared as it traveled on the tracks. Upon boarding, the noise was apparent, but after a moment, one grew accustomed to the sound, even finding it pleasant as it accompanied the journey, preventing loneliness.

From the 13th carriage onward, no iron doors existed between the front and back, continuing all the way to the 3rd carriage. As for the 2nd carriage’s coal room, anyone daring to climb up there would face the driver’s shotgun without a chance for explanation.

As soon as Su Xiao entered the 13th carriage, passengers in the seats looked over. Seeing Su Xiao’s attire, they stopped paying attention to him. Some even presented their tickets.

On this train, seating was freely chosen irrespective of ticket type, allowing passengers to sit anywhere once a ticket was purchased.

Su Xiao slowly moved to the front of the 13th carriage, where he lit a cigarette. Guarding flammable and explosive materials, stepping out for a smoke seemed normal.

Although appearing ’lazy’, Su Xiao was actually using peripheral vision to observe suspicious people. He had fully withdrawn his Perception Force, preventing his aura from being detected by the enemy.

Passengers remained silent, some resting, others reading newspapers. Papers from the Holy Healing Church, not typically affordable for commoners, were read by those of extravagant wealth.

After observing for a while, Su Xiao found no one suspicious. He moved forward to the 12th carriage, and after some inspection, saw nothing unusual there either.

Carriages 11, 10, 9, and 8—Su Xiao checked each one, automatically overlooking males, which greatly reduced the difficulty of finding the witch.

Upon reaching the 7th carriage, Su Xiao found it unusually noisy, with several passengers gambling with a few copper coins, though the exact rules were unknown.

Su Xiao watched their antics for a while, sulking as he lost a few silver coins, before sullenly heading toward the 6th carriage. When it came to acting, Su Xiao was never outdone, even against the likes of Aizen and Qing Ye.

Upon entering the 6th carriage, its quietness halted Su Xiao’s steps. It was eerily silent, with most passengers in a deep slumber. Such an odd situation warranted action from Su Xiao as a crew member.

”Wake up.”

Su Xiao nudged a middle-aged man, who slowly opened his sleepy eyes, staring at Su Xiao in confusion.

”What’s the matter?”

Annoyed at having his dream interrupted, the middle-aged man slapped a ticket on the table before him, indicating: ’I bought a ticket.’

”My apologies.”

Su Xiao ’sighed in relief’, stepped forward—passing by a young lady dressed in a black and red gown, her skin fair, delicate at a touch.

Su Xiao merely glanced at the Sleeping Beauty, continuing to move forward. After a few meters, his fingers twitched. The next moment, he gripped the shotgun’s handle, breaking the belt.

The dark muzzle aimed at the young lady. At that moment, she suddenly opened her eyes.

Bam!

Gunpowder ignited, white smoke burst from the shotgun’s barrel, mingled with numerous shards of yellow crystal.
