Chapter 1551: Chapter 17: Unexpected

Holy Healing City, city center.

A carriage passed through the street, kicking up dust, and stopped beside Su Xiao. Several men and women jumped off the carriage, their attire varied, and their weapons were bizarre. Some carried hook locks, crossbows, and even someone with an anchor-shaped weapon strapped to their back.

These men and women walked towards a grand building, which was the headquarters of the Holy Healing Church. Though grand, it appeared somewhat old, with parts of the exterior wall starting to weather.

The first floor of the Holy Healing Church was open to the public, while areas above the first floor were only accessible to internal personnel. It was evening, so as Su Xiao entered the hall of the Holy Healing Church, it was an empty vastness.

On one side of the hall was a large wooden board embedded in the wall, with wanted orders of varying ages tacked onto it, some of which had paper that had already yellowed.

The hall, although hundreds of square meters in size, was simply furnished. The staircase to the second floor was at the inner side face, while to the left was the announcement board, and to the right was the commission office, which was responsible for receiving information and bounty intel provided by the civilians.

Behind the window at the commission office, a blonde girl sat, constantly smiling. But from the way she occasionally glanced at the spring clock, it seemed she was about to get off work.

Su Xiao approached the window, and the blonde girl stood up politely.

”Hello, is there anything you need?”

The girl’s voice was clear and courteous, evidently professionally trained.

”I want to join the Holy Healing Church.”

”Is that so? Please wait a moment.”

The girl picked up a wooden placard, painted black with graffiti. Paper in this world was considered valuable, so when accepting civilian commissions, these reusable writing boards were used.

”You need to first provide identification, then wait for the monthly Sanctuary Day. As long as you are devout enough, you are sure to join the Holy Healing Church.”

The girl’s tone was gentle, as she would repeat these kinds of phrases a dozen times a day.

”With this, I should be able to become a Witch Hunter, right?”

Su Xiao tossed a small parcel into the window, and the girl sighed inwardly with helplessness. She encountered such situations many times a week, as not everyone could become a Witch Hunter.

”Sir, if you want to become a Witch Hunter, you need to have received relevant training since at least the age of six...”

Out of courtesy, the girl opened the cloth package while speaking, and a few steaming orange-red crystal fragments fell out.

”This is...”

The smile faded from the girl’s face as she lightly touched the orange-red crystal fragments with her fingers.

”The carrier after the avatar’s manifestation?”

The girl, being a civil servant + receptionist + customer service for the Holy Healing Church, certainly recognized these crystals, which could only be obtained after shattering the avatar of an Elemental series, and only if done while the witch was still alive.

”Where did you get this?”

”Slaughtered a witch, and this is what was left after her avatar shattered.”

Su Xiao had no identification, but he had killed two witches, one of which happened in a public place.

”Please wait a moment.”

The girl stood up with the cloth package and walked through the wooden door at the back. Su Xiao waited for about 10 minutes before the blonde girl came down from the second floor with an old man.

This old man was dressed in a white robe, holding a metal cane. Su Xiao could discern that it was a weapon.

”Senator, this is the gentleman...”

”I understand.”

The white-robed old man had a severe stoop, supporting himself with the cane as he approached Su Xiao.

”So, such monsters really exist in this world.”

The old man sized up Su Xiao, clicking his tongue in wonder.

”Are you of the Alien Races?”

The old man grinned, revealing that only two front teeth were intact, while the others were either broken to the root or half gone.

”No, I hail from the North Border.”

”Oh, I see, is that ’bear’ from the North Border still alive?”

The ”bear” the old man mentioned referred to the King of Winter from the North Border.

”Bear?”

Although Su Xiao understood what the old man was asking, he did not show it.

”Haha, never mind if you don’t know, you want to be a Witch Hunter?”

”Yes.”

”Good, then you are a Witch Hunter now.”

The white-robed old man laughed again. Similar beings can detect one another, and his previous reference to Su Xiao as a monster was due to him being a similar existence.

”Shirley, help him with the procedures.”

”Senator, this...”

”Do as I say.”

”Understood.”

Shirley nodded obediently, unable to comprehend the Senator’s intentions. It could be said that this Senator’s way of handling things was very shrewd. At first glance, he had sensed the blood energy around Su Xiao and the danger he emanated.

To old man Carmen, regardless of what purpose Su Xiao had, he was prepared to let him join the Holy Healing Church first. If he came with sincerity, he was welcome, and if not, having a threat in sight was much better than letting a threat lurk in the shadows.

”I am Carmen, your guide.”

The white-robed old man extended his withered hand, and Su Xiao reached out his hand, while Bubu Wang, behind him, raised a brow, implying: ”Sir, hello, I am Ka Vision, and I have a little brother, he’s called Ka Positioning (A Mu).”

”Little fellow, you’re quite good too.”

Carmen turned to smile at Bubu Wang, those cloudy old eyes seemingly having discovered something.

Carmen soon left, and Su Xiao followed Shirley to complete the Witch Hunter-related procedures, which were much simpler than imagined. A document of approval, and a ring inlaid with white gemstones.

...

Joining the Holy Healing Church and becoming a Witch Hunter was much simpler than expected, or it could be said that the Holy Healing Church was in great need of people. As long as one had extraordinary abilities, the Holy Healing Church would not reject such talent.

The three levels of Witch Hunters were straightforward and crude. The White level was called rabbits by witches, appearing as harmless as a little white rabbit. The Black level was called Night Hounds, akin to hunting hounds in the night, unstoppable for witches.

As for the Red level, it was terrifying, with witches referring to hunters of this level as Blood Hunters, each having killed over 20 witches, experts in witch hunting.
