One-Eyed Monster

Kuyi Tulan climbed the steps and, after stepping through the palace gates, slowly made his way to the depths of the palace.

The place he was heading to was neither the council hall nor the king’s retreat; it was the king’s reading room.

Inside the reading room were several Spirit Books, and the Basic Spirit Book was also something he needed this time.

His Majesty the King would not summon him for anything else, and every meeting took place in the reading room.

Only in the king’s reading room would sounds be masked; the spells laid by the scholars and politicians within the palace would be interfered with here and would have no effect.

This interference effect was precisely brought about by these Spirit Books.

In his discussions with the king, he did not want others to hear, which is why he chose to be here.

Kuyi Tulan pushed the door open; after being named Hand of the King, he no longer needed to knock on any doors in the palace.

King Kayne was sitting properly in the reading room, his eyes vacant, with no trace of color as if he hadn’t had a full sleep in days.

Upon seeing Kuyi Tulan’s arrival, King Kayne suddenly stood up from his chair.

”You’re finally here!” The king seemed to have been waiting for Kuyi Tulan, his tone was filled with urgency.

”Hmm!” Kuyi Tulan nodded, completely disregarding the etiquette between a sovereign and a subject, as casual as facing an alchemy apprentice.

”Did you bring it? Give it to me quickly!” King Kayne impatiently asked Kuyi Tulan for the item.

”I brought it.” Kuyi Tulan said calmly, appearing to be a blank sheet of paper, a bowl of cold water, devoid of any emotional color in the face of the king’s urgency.

”Quickly! Quickly!” King Kayne urgently stretched out his hand, his facial expression twisted to a certain extent, almost grimacing.

”I really don’t understand how you’ve managed up to now.” Kuyi Tulan took out a small glass bottle from his person, within it, a pale yellow pit spinning.

”Bring it here!” King Kayne snatched the glass bottle with one hand, urgently pulling out the stopper and swallowing the pale yellow pit in one gulp.

In an instant, King Kayne’s previously disoriented eyes became sharp, emitting a faint blue light, and soon after, his entire body began to tremble as if he was having a seizure...

”Pathetic, pitiful...” Kuyi Tulan quietly remarked from the side.

King Kayne slowly calmed down, his gaze returning to that unfocused state, his entire body rising and falling uncontrollably with deep breaths.

”Don’t lament over me like that, aren’t you the same? What’s so pitiful or pathetic?” said the calm King Kayne to Kuyi Tulan, evidently still very conscious of Kuyi Tulan’s earlier remark.

”Without the Spirit Core, you’re nothing. Isn’t that pathetic?” Kuyi Tulan smirked disdainfully, as though the one standing across was not King Kayne.

”Kuyi Tulan, do you know who you’re speaking to? You’re facing the King of Kayne!”

”Humph, if you truly were King Kayne, perhaps I wouldn’t say this, but alas, you are not. You are merely someone occupying Kayne’s body, without the Spirit Core, you’re nothing, you can’t even maintain your own coherent thoughts.”

”You!” King Kayne was clearly angry, but he had no temper with Kuyi Tulan.

”I could let you rot here, but I haven’t done so!” Kuyi Tulan moved towards the Basic Spirit Book, ”After all, you still need to continue playing the part of King Kayne.”

”Alright, I won’t talk about it with you.” The imposter King Kayne appeared a bit impatient with Kuyi Tulan’s arrogance; he had never felt this way before, today Kuyi Tulan seemed to have changed completely.

”I did not plan to engage with you extensively.” Kuyi Tulan took the three Spirit Books from the shelf.

”Hmph, when will you finally replace everyone in this palace, even those servants? It’s so hard to deal with their pretentiousness every day, when can I truly be at ease.”

”Hmph, you’re occupying the body of King Kayne, unable to be satisfied as a king, perhaps you should return to your origin and slumber!” Kuyi Tulan said disdainfully.

”Bah, do you know how strong this one’s willpower is? If it weren’t for your Spirit Core, I couldn’t resist him at all, thankfully he’s just an ordinary adventurer with class, if he achieved enlightenment and understood energy, I would stand no chance against him!”

”Haha, that’s your own weakness.” Kuyi Tulan remained scornful.

”Kuyi Tulan, your temper is getting worse, or have you been devoured? Why doesn’t it seem like you anymore?” The imposter King Kayne voiced his internal doubts.

”You can’t see it? No wonder you’re just a puppet, a pawn to be manipulated.”

”Who do you think you’re talking to?”

”I have always been this way, unrelenting against weaklings like you.”

The imposter King Kayne began to hold a grudge against Kuyi Tulan; within the entire Soul Devourer team, his status had always been high, how could he be looked down upon by such a junior!

”Don’t speak to me like this, I am still considered your superior!”

”A superior relying on subordinates to provide Spirit Cores for survival?” Kuyi Tulan’s smile grew even brighter.

”You!”

”Let me tell you, now you’re nothing more than a dog, a dog I can crush at any moment, so sit tight and wait for your bones, don’t make me angry, or I’ll stop providing Spirit Cores for you!”

”Kuyi Tulan, how dare you, who gave you the authority! I’ll report you, just you wait!”

”Report me?” Kuyi Tulan’s laughter grew louder.

”What are you laughing at?” The imposter King Kayne was utterly baffled, this was the first time seeing Kuyi Tulan so brazenly; could it be that this guy was really devoured by others and was now toying with him?

”Who will you report me to? To Willem, or maybe to the one behind Willem?” Kuyi Tulan’s expression turned sinister, lacking any playfulness.

”You!” The imposter King Kayne couldn’t believe the person before him was Kuyi Tulan, but as he expanded his abilities, he found that it was indeed Kuyi Tulan.

”Rest assured, you’ll soon be able to report me, but before that, stay put in the palace, I will regularly provide you with the required Spirit Cores!” Kuyi Tulan’s tone was heavy, his face somber.

”Hmph!” The imposter King Kayne was not at all intimidated by Kuyi Tulan’s threat.

”Now is not the time for your clamor, hmph, hahahaha!”

Kuyi Tulan’s laugh sent chills down spines, but no one could stop his unruly behavior now. The imposter King Kayne couldn’t, nor could the League Guards outside. The imposter King Kayne was very uneasy now, as he felt that the worst he feared was happening with Kuyi Tulan.
