One-Eyed Monster

Lord Bern’s residence is not grand, just a two-story building with a medium-sized garden.

You would never think that this small building is Lord Bern’s mansion, the residence of a merchant as wealthy as a nation!

Lord Bern’s modesty is baffling; no one can say where he hides all his gold coins. This small two-story building is so small that you can see its boundaries at a glance, and it probably can’t hold many gold coins. Some say Lord Bern has left all his gold coins to his children. His children have large mansions all over the Kayne Empire, but they rarely interfere with Lord Bern’s business. It seems that the one managing this business empire is still Lord Bern himself.

Lord Bern is now almost ninety years old, yet he is still full of energy and doesn’t need a cane to walk.

He has always stayed in Bistal, always in this two-story building.

Now, Lord Bern leans on his recliner, absent-minded, even though the various flowers planted in the garden are in full bloom, competing in colors and elegance, Lord Bern is not in the mood to appreciate them.

Lord Bern hasn’t been in a good mood lately, even in a slow-paced place like Bistal, he cannot calm his heart.

He is old, but he doesn’t want to end his life this way.

He feels his life can be described as successful, although he didn’t fulfill his wish to enter the hall of the Politicians, he at least became as wealthy as a nation.

His children were also quite competent, not squandering all the wealth he accumulated. Of course, even if his children squandered all the wealth he gave them, he wouldn’t worry, because things like gold coins come to him easily. He still has enough energy to earn more gold coins.

His ideal is not about these gold coins, nor is it to become a Politician. Those things are ephemeral, you can’t take them with you when you die. Oh, death is the most taboo topic for him.

Lord Bern fears death; he wants to continue living in this world.

He desires immortality.

When he saw that the lifespan of the Adventurers with Class was slightly longer than that of normal humans, he was tempted. He always wanted to become an Adventurer with Class, but unfortunately, he didn’t have the qualifications.

Even though he was very wealthy at the time, he finally felt the powerlessness of money; he couldn’t purchase the qualifications to become an Adventurer with Class with it.

This is his greatest regret.

Lord Bern lay on the rocking chair, and his heart felt a bit tired. This kind of fatigue appeared for the first time.

Is this a sign of death? Lord Bern touched his heart, which was beating fiercely.

Why did all the bad things come at once? Didn’t things go well before? Why did the situation develop like this?

The absent-minded Lord Bern’s thoughts were like a tide, not knowing why his heart couldn’t calm down.

This feeling had been absent for a long time, especially in the slow-paced Bistal.

Several hurried footsteps came from the door, making Lord Bern even more annoyed.

”My Lord! My Lord, oh!”

No one had yet entered the garden when a wailing voice started outside, sounding like people screaming sharply after being beaten.

This sound didn’t match Bistal’s entire ancient deep tone, like a mottled mangy dog suddenly falling into a serene shining pond...

Bern knew who owned this voice; it was Edmirs from the Sun Circus.

Ever since the Circus executor Clown disappeared, this Edmirs naturally became the Circus leader.

But this leader was nothing compared to Clown.

Bern never understood what happened with the Circus recently; why couldn’t they deal with two teenagers?

Lord Bern, of course, was fully aware of Igor and Kadi’s whereabouts.

Although his intelligence network wasn’t as tight as Black Crow’s, gold coins could accomplish many things, and these gold coins brought him a lot of information.

However, Lord Bern didn’t expect that the key information about these two teenagers was absent in the information.

It wasn’t that the intelligence-gathering Crows weren’t competent, but these two teenagers had nothing to dig up.

Throughout the Empire, these two teenagers were like blank pages, with nothing on them.

One was a wandering savage from Guru Mountain, the other the son of a woodcutter from Yonder Travel Academy, without backgrounds, without any peculiarities...

Yet, it was these two guys who managed to make the Star Circus fall apart and made the Circus executor Clown disappear.

There were even reports that these two teenagers fought with the Circus Puppet Master and the Smoke Organization accompanying him, which ended up disappearing after confronting them...

The only word that emerged from all the information was ’mystery.’

Whenever Lord Bern saw the Mail Bird, he would feel troubled for a long time; he hadn’t faced failure for a long time.

”Panicked and flustered, what a sight!” As Edmirs had just stepped into the garden, Lord Bern spoke up. For an elderly nearly ninety, his speech was still strong, which was somewhat surprising.

But Edmirs seemed already used to it. He calmed his emotions: ”My Lord, they have arrived!”

”What’s meant to come will come, you useless fools couldn’t stop anything. It all still relies on this old man to solve!”

”Lord, we are all counting on you!” Edmirs pleaded, feeling his only wish was to maintain the status quo and not ask for too much more.

”I’m not even an Adventurer with Class, and you guys still rely on me, what a joke!” Lord Bern sighed.

”But the power you control is stronger than us. As long as you persuade them, everything will be solved; this is what you’re best at!”

Lord Bern himself had no absolute confidence. His current feelings were very chaotic. That faint old unease finally found him, he hadn’t trembled like this for many years.

The seclusion of Bistal allowed him to do many unseen things. He dispersed his children just for secrecy.

He wants immortality; this pursuit is his ultimate goal.

No matter who, cannot stop this goal of his.

So no matter how powerful a person he faces, he will try.

Immortality is waiting for him ahead, he must grasp every opportunity.

”Let them come, I’ve prepared. All you useless fools, get as far away as you can from me!” Lord Bern was obviously very angry, he was very dissatisfied with his subordinates!
