One-Eyed Monster

Igor was also bewildered. After communicating with the Spirit Books for so long, he still hadn’t gained anything.

If there was any gain at all, it was that the things these Spirit Books talked about were all sorts of nonsense, and they could only describe a surface level, with nothing substantive.

”We’ve said all we should say!”

This response from the Spirit Books made Igor not know whether to laugh or cry. What did they mean by saying all they should say? Clearly, they hadn’t said anything useful!

Indeed, these Spirit Books had said a lot, even more than they’d said in all the previous days combined. But among all this talking, not a single sentence was relevant, nothing even remotely related to what Igor cared about.

In fact, amidst all this nonsense, there wasn’t even a surface description. This made it impossible for Igor to summarize anything.

”I mean, can’t you focus on the main points?” Igor tried to prompt the Spirit Books.

”What we’ve said are the main points!” the Spirit Books rebutted indifferently.

”This... sigh, forget it, I can’t communicate clearly with you. I should find another method to solve the problem.” Igor essentially gave up on direct communication with these Spirit Books. Their minds seemed too inflexible to understand what Igor was saying, so he had to rephrase things more clearly for them.

”Alright then, we’ll use your method of me asking, and you answering. That’s clearer, right?”

”Hmm, that’s somewhat fine,” the Spirit Books agreed with Igor’s suggestion. They were familiar with this method, so there was no need for an adjustment phase.

Doing something familiar was always easier, and Igor hoped this would help the Spirit Books understand his meaning better without veering off-topic.

”Then let’s begin. Hopefully, after this, we can conclude this matter and never bring it up again.” Igor candidly expressed his wish.

The Spirit Books also hoped such matters could be resolved satisfactorily. After all, they’d been active for long enough this time, and they were a bit tired too.

”Alright, let’s start!” The Spirit Books felt they were ready.

”Alright, can you describe an appearance?”

”That shouldn’t be a problem, right? We are Spirit Books—a book’s role is to describe all kinds of things to people. This should be our basic ability! If we can’t even do this, then we don’t need to be books anymore,” the Spirit Books said self-deprecatingly, still confident about this.

”Okay then, could you depict the Devouring Power for me? I’ve always been curious about this power, and I want to know what it really looks like. Though it’s now impossible to know exactly what kind of power this is, I still want to understand what it appears like.”

This was currently Igor’s most pressing concern. After all, Kadi also held this power, yet Igor, who had been working with Kadi for so long, had never detected any Devouring Power in him. However, these Spirit Books insisted that Kadi had it, which made Igor feel he needed a method to discern this power.

By having the Spirit Books describe this appearance, it was only hoped they could find a way to identify this unique power.

Once a method to identify Devouring Power was mastered, when encountering a Soul Devourer, Igor could judge the opponent’s identity in advance...

Therefore, this matter was very important to Igor, which is why he asked about it first.

The Spirit Books began discussing it seriously this time, as they wanted to bring this issue to a satisfying conclusion.

”Devouring Power is very hidden and generally hard to detect. Describing what power looks like is a difficult task, but we’ll do our best.” The Spirit Books honestly admitted their shortcomings. After all, power isn’t something tangible and can’t be intuitively described.

As it turns out, you can’t describe what color this power is, nor can you describe its shape. Power is abstract; presenting it vividly is indeed very challenging.

”You go ahead, I have my own understanding ability. I can use my imagination.” Igor was confident in himself as well.

To be honest, Igor’s level of imagination really wasn’t something to be praised.

Based on Igor’s imagination, it’s unbelievable anyone could visualize the concept of power concretely.

The Spirit Books couldn’t shrug their shoulders, but if they could, they surely would have shrugged at this moment.

”The Devouring Power is different from typical power. Some power gives people a sense of oppression; some feels like the slow heating of a frog in warm water. However, Devouring Power is selective. When it faces specific targets like us, there’s an intense pressure, like scorching flames roasting us. But towards other targets, this power exists like air.”

”So you mean, this Devouring Power feels like the oppressive sensation of fire?” Igor’s imagination was indeed limited to continuing along the imagery described by the Spirit Books, without generating any new imagery—this was really a rudimentary level of imagination.

Nevertheless, Igor felt confident, thinking he understood these new descriptions well.

”You could say that, yes. There is a sense of being burnt. This Devouring Power feels like a burning sensation!”

Igor helped the Spirit Books refine this description further. They just needed to align this power closer to fire.

Igor, not particularly imaginative, was reminded of something else at this moment—a certain firepower Kadi possessed, which was crucial in defeating Clown Quinn before.

Kadi’s Blue Flame!

Could that blue flame really be the Devouring Power?

Igor couldn’t help but ponder deeply. The Blue Flame was evidently a mysterious force, and now it conveniently linked to the Devouring Power the Spirit Books spoke of.

”Is that flame blue?” Igor directly asked the Spirit Books. After getting so far, he might as well get to the bottom of it.

”It seems... to be blue!” The Spirit Books gave Igor a somewhat ambiguous answer.

Although vague, this answer assured Igor distinctively.
