One-Eyed Monster

Kadi’s words left Igor completely stunned.

He never thought Kadi would be so direct; this idea indeed made him feel a bit shocked. However, when he thought about it carefully, Kadi’s idea was also quite natural.

Since you can’t think of a way to cover up everything that’s happening right now, it would be better to face it directly.

Moreover, Igor has always hated this kind of cover-up; he prefers to be more honest.

So Kadi’s proposal immediately halted his internal struggles, awakening his original self.

”What you said seems to make a lot of sense.” Igor scratched his head, momentarily at a loss for words to respond to Kadi and could only stutter his agreement.

”What do you mean ’seems to make sense’? This is clearly the case, isn’t it? Think about it, if Lord Bern could truly control everything, then he’d know what happened here soon enough. So, no matter how you hide it, it would be useless.”

What Kadi said was indeed true. If Lord Bern was powerful enough to control the whole circus, he would definitely soon find out what happened here.

A Puppet Master might not catch Lord Bern’s attention, but if the Executor Clown lost contact, that’s another matter entirely.

The disappearance of the Executor Clown would certainly be quickly reported to Lord Bern, and by then, Lord Bern would use all resources to track the clown. At that point, no matter how Igor wanted to hide it, he wouldn’t be able to.

So, it would be better to admit they did it and face Bern head-on.

At least doing this guarantees they’ll meet Bern, and whether it succeeds or fails, the outcome will certainly begin with their meeting.

Igor thought a bit too much; Kadi’s suggestion was like a bomb, exploding his thoughts wide open.

These thoughts shot out from Igor’s mind, making him instantly excited.

”Alright, let’s go directly to Bern and see what’s going on!” Igor stood up immediately, almost as if he sprouted wings to fly over there right now.

”Eat first, talk about your plan after the meal!” Kruz unceremoniously interrupted Igor’s excitement, scooping a big spoonful of mashed potatoes onto Igor’s plate.

”Oh, sorry, I got too carried away!” Igor hurriedly apologized for his outburst, and when he saw the mashed potatoes on his plate, he couldn’t help but swallow a mouthful of saliva as he realized how hungry he really was.

”Eat, eat, then we’ll discuss how to go about it!” Kruz, in a way, agreed with Kadi’s suggestion as they were going to see Lord Bern next.

Igor gobbled up the mashed potatoes; paired with beef jerky, they really were delicious.

”Should we come up with a plan first?” Kadi proposed again. After experiencing many things, he realized having a plan is quite good, although he had never truly executed any plans he made.

”It’s better not to make plans; I fear they’ll disrupt our steps at the time!” Igor knew Kadi quite well; he wouldn’t risk making a plan…

Kruz shook his head as he looked at them. He couldn’t understand how these two youngsters could come so far; there really are many strange happenings in this world, and these two in front of him could truly be considered one of them.

As a member of the circus, Kruz had traveled many parts for years. He wouldn’t say he was familiar with every corner of the empire, but he knew them quite well, including where Lord Bern resided.

Lord Bern lived inland, situated in central Kayne Empire, north of Luona.

That inland city is Bistal, a place controlled by Lord Popovich. It’s not too hot or cold, seemingly without anything too outstanding, neither luxurious nor decayed.

Bistal is the ancient capital of Kayne Empire. The earlier kings had set their regimes here. In a way, Bistal is an old royal city, containing many ancient powers, families, and professions.

Bistal can be described as a city with intricate powers. While there are many emerging Adventurers with Class, they are all controlled by the ancient families behind the scenes.

The current master of this ancient city, Lord Popovich, is the leading figure of these ancient families. His ancestors once served the first Kayne King, enduring much pressure and pain. The journey of rebellion and endurance, his family has always accompanied the Kayne Royal Family, never wavering. However, when the tenth King Kayne moved the capital to Xinbal, the Popovich family chose to stay behind. This ancient family believed the capital needed protection because it held too many ancient secrets, and only the Popovich family could keep it in check.

Kruz had visited the ancient city before, and his only impression was walking through a fog.

This ancient capital is like a riddle wrapped in mist; nobody could clearly see what it contained within.

Walking the streets of this city, you wouldn’t know what you might encounter. The tiles you step on could very well have been laid by King Kayne himself many years ago. Those daydreaming beside old houses might be masters among Adventurers with Class. And those running across the streets could be the young masters and ladies of ancient families...

Thus, from the moment they entered the ancient capital, Kruz was warned to be cautious in everything, to bow and scrape wherever he went because they were circus performers, actors, the bottom rung, and in this ancient capital, even more bottom of the bottom rung.

In this ancient city, they must remain cautious because they couldn’t possibly afford to offend the powers there. For people like Igor, who do things on impulse, going to that city was indeed a very dangerous matter.

Such matters need to be told to Igor and his companions by Kruz to prevent them from suffering later.

”Well, um, I think I need to tell you guys something.” Kruz said softly, seeming to be cautious even about what he was about to say, because what he had to say might affect the decision Igor and his friends just made.

Igor and Kadi looked at Kruz with curiosity. They didn’t know what Kruz wanted to say, but from Kruz’s serious expression, what he had to say didn’t seem so simple...
