One-Eyed Monster

Igor listened quietly to the descriptions from these Spirit Books. For the moment he no longer felt this was a waste of time, because everything the Spirit Books were describing now was something he had never encountered before.

”We’re also really curious—what exactly have you been through to know so much about the Spirit World? You have to understand, Lord Soron only opened that passageway and communicated with the Spirits in his old age.”

”For someone as young as you to open the passage, it really is a miracle.”

The Spirit Books suddenly started lavishing praise on Igor again. Their words left Kadi, standing off to the side, completely baffled. What they were saying was already abstruse enough, and now they’d suddenly begun inexplicably praising Igor on top of that—what, was he just invisible now?

What Kadi found most infuriating was that this whole thing had clearly started because of him, so why had everything suddenly shifted to revolve around Igor instead!

No way, no way, he couldn’t just let himself be ignored like this. Weren’t these Spirit Books still afraid of him? How could he let them ignore the very existence of fear like this!

Kadi cleared his throat and then spoke in a very serious tone: ”What are you all talking about? Did you forget I exist?!”

”No!” The Spirit Books instantly became alert. Faced with this embodiment of fear, they naturally didn’t dare be careless.

”Then what are you discussing!” Kadi shouted loudly.

”Uh… we were talking about the maker of Spirit Entities…” Faced with fear, the Spirit Books still couldn’t withstand it and blurted out the answer.

This was an unfamiliar term. Its appearance made Igor furrow his brows and left Kadi dumbfounded.

”So this is the regret Lord Soron had on his path of exploration?” Igor thought for a moment and asked.

”Y-yes, that’s the regret Lord Soron had on his path of exploration. From beginning to end he never found the maker of the Spirit Entities.”

”So that means, a long time ago, people on the Yowein Continent had already explored that world of Spirits and even communicated with those Spirits!” Igor was very surprised.

”That’s how it is. And a lot of things were buried underground, never to see the light of day.”

”Why would it be like that!” Igor didn’t understand.

”What on earth are you all talking about!” Kadi once again manifested his fear, trying to刷 a sense of his own presence.

”Kadi, don’t be like that yet, we’re discussing something here!” Igor stepped in to cut Kadi off. Right now he felt Kadi was just stirring things up.

”Don’t be like what? Get the situation straight, okay? They were summoned to clear up my doubts. Now you guys start chatting away, leaving me more and more confused, and you still tell me not to be like this—tell me, how is that reasonable?” Kadi’s temper flared all at once; it seemed his mood hadn’t been very good for quite some time.

This burst of anger left Igor frozen on the spot. It was true, he had overlooked Kadi’s feelings. As for those Spirit Books, they’d long since been so terrified by Kadi’s presence that they couldn’t even utter a single word.

”Alright, it’s my fault!” Igor apologized to Kadi. ”I got carried away by what the Spirit Books were saying and wandered further and further off, but you have to know, these things are important!”

”I know, but my feelings are important too. I don’t want to keep living in a fog of confusion.” Kadi said.

Igor looked at Kadi again. This time he felt that keeping things from Kadi all this time had been wrong.

”You know why I left Guru Mountain? I just wanted to know where I came from. Honestly, of the two questions that used to torment me, I’ve already found an answer to one. I don’t have to struggle anymore over where I should go, because Guru Mountain is my home. But the question of where I came from has always been haunting me!”

Kadi’s emotions also found some release in that moment. The things he’d been bottling up for so long finally spilled out thanks to this opportunity.

”I’m sorry, I didn’t consider your feelings!” Igor realized his mistake and hurried to apologize to Kadi.

”I’m not like you all. I was born a monster. In your world, I even have to wear a mask. And now, even a few Spirit Books are afraid of me. I really want to know—why is that!”

Kadi’s words left Igor silent. He finally understood that the more he hid, the worse the impact on Kadi became. Doing this wouldn’t protect Kadi; it would only deepen the doubts in Kadi’s heart, making his confusion thicker and thicker. That thick, deep unknown would only push Kadi into a dead end—and if things went wrong, it could cause Kadi to completely explode!

Kadi needed to vent. He needed to understand everything. They couldn’t keep his eyes covered.

”Kadi, do you still remember that Agent of Destruction I mentioned before?” Igor decided that in this moment he would open up to Kadi and tell him all his worries.

”I remember. That’s what the Soul Devourers talked about—the Destroyer who came to this world after the passage was opened, whose power could open the entire passageway!”

”Then you should remember how we discussed your special nature back then, because you are that Agent of Destruction!”

”I don’t care. I’m not some Agent of Destruction at all!” Kadi dismissed Igor’s words.

”I don’t think you are either, but the shared perception in the Border Realm doesn’t make mistakes. That blue guy Sol ran into is very likely you.”

”So what if it is me.”

”You have Devouring Power in you!”

”Huh?”

”Your absorption of Spirit Power surpasses anyone’s. Your battle with the Clown also revealed your Devouring Power!”

”And what if it did?”

”That means you might actually be the true Agent of Destruction. That’s what worries me most.” Igor finally spoke his mind.

”Why does that worry you? Even if I am some Agent of Destruction, I’m not going to destroy this place. I’ve said that ages ago.” Kadi didn’t take Igor’s concern seriously.

”That unknown power in you—are you sure you can control it? That’s exactly what these Spirit Books fear about you. The unknown—who can say for sure what it is.”

”Uh, that… I really haven’t thought about it. Honestly, I have no idea what unknown stuff I’ve got in me.” Kadi scratched his head; this time, Igor had managed to persuade him.

”Can we… cut in for a moment?”

The Spirit Books asked cautiously, afraid that what Igor had just said might enrage Kadi and drag them down with him.

”What are you going to say? If you drag the topic off again, don’t blame me!” Kadi glared at the few Spirit Books.

The Spirit Books rustled noisily, the sound caused by their fear making the whole books tremble and flip pages uncontrollably.

”What we want to say is… the Devouring Power in you seems to be exactly what Lord Soron was pursuing all the way to the very end…”
