Chapter 698: Chapter 698: The Appearance of the Wuji Immortal Palace Master

”No! Great Uncle-Master! What do you mean by this? I told you this has nothing to do with me!”

Wu Chang could feel the threat of death closing in. He hadn’t expected Huo Mei to be so furious. This issue clearly has nothing to do with me! Even if others found out, it would only be the fault of the Jiang Ancient Clan. Our Wuji Immortal Palace couldn’t possibly be damaged because of this!

”Saint Heir, stop making excuses,” the Third Elder stepped forward to accuse him. ”Your little schemes were seen through by the Great Uncle-Master long ago! If you want to live, then quickly admit your mistakes!”

Seeing Wu Chang’s predicament, the Third Elder felt a sense of relief. An ungrateful wretch like him deserves to be taught a proper lesson!

Wu Chang glared at the Third Elder. ”Fine! So that’s how you’re going to be! Just you wait!”

SLAP!

However, before Wu Chang could finish speaking, Huo Mei slapped him across the chest.

SPURT!

Wu Chang felt as though his internal organs had been crushed, and blood streamed unstoppably from the corner of his mouth.

”Great Uncle-Master! You... You actually struck a killing blow!”

Wu Chang had narrowly dodged part of Huo Mei’s attack in the nick of time. Otherwise, he would already be dead.

Seeing Wu Chang was still alive and well, Huo Mei walked up to him with a cold laugh. ”Keeping you around is a liability. The Wuji Immortal Palace has no need for someone with a heart as malicious as yours! Killing you now is my way of taking responsibility for the Wuji Immortal Palace!”

Huo Mei’s words were utterly merciless.

Wu Chang finally understood the true meaning of despair.

”No! No! Great Uncle-Master, please don’t kill me! I’m the Saint Heir! I know I was wrong, and I’ll definitely change my ways! I swear I’ll change! Please, I’m begging you, don’t kill me!” Wu Chang groveled on the ground, desperately clutching Huo Mei’s pant leg, his face a mask of pleading.

However, Huo Mei didn’t even spare him a glance.

Seeing Huo Mei was unmoved, Wu Chang frantically turned his gaze to the Third Elder. ”Third Elder, you were with the Great Uncle-Master, you must know something! Please, say a few words for me!”

The Third Elder looked at Wu Chang’s desperate pleading and couldn’t help but snort coldly. ”Saint Heir, when I begged you to say a word for me before, did you?”

The Third Elder couldn’t feel more elated. Seeing the elder’s resolute expression, Wu Chang felt his heart shatter from anxiety.

Before Huo Mei could make a move, Xiao Xiao couldn’t help but speak up. ”Great Uncle-Master, don’t kill him yet! If you kill him, we won’t know where the Young Master is!”

In her heart, Xiao Xiao wished Huo Mei would kill Wu Chang right then and there. But she couldn’t rest easy until Ye Qingchen was found.

Huo Mei looked up at Xiao Xiao, then down at Wu Chang at her feet. ”Heh, this one is quite the liar! Xiao Xiao, luckily I arrived in time. This scoundrel conspired with Jiang Qi to take Ye Qingchen’s life. I’ve already sent Ye Qingchen to Elder Chen for treatment, so you don’t have to worry,” Huo Mei explained.

Xiao Xiao immediately sagged with relief. ”Thank goodness! Thank goodness the Young Master was saved by you!”

At that moment, a realization seemed to dawn on Wu Chang, his eyes widening in disbelief. ”Great Uncle-Master! You’ve known Ye Qingchen all along?”

Judging by her tone, she seemed to be very familiar with both Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao. Why didn’t they say so earlier?! I actually made a move on Ye Qingchen right under the Great Uncle-Master’s nose. It’d be a miracle if she didn’t want me dead!

”Great Uncle-Master! It’s a misunderstanding!” Wu Chang scrambled to defend himself. ”The Saint Heir of the Jiang Clan made me target him! This has nothing to do with me!”

However, Huo Mei paid him no mind, slightly lifting her hands as countless streams of energy flowed into her palms.

Wu Chang scrambled backward in terror. Such powerful energy... Is she trying to annihilate me? What do I do? What do I do? Am I going to die here? I’m the Saint Heir of the Wuji Immortal Palace! Why do I have to die here?!

His mind had shut down, consumed by his fear of Huo Mei.

Huo Mei’s gaze was sharp as she stared at Wu Chang. Just as she was about to strike, she suddenly felt a surge of energy emanating from the depths of the Wuji Immortal Palace.

”Great Uncle-Master! Please stay your hand!”

A robust and powerful voice echoed from the sky. Hearing it, Huo Mei narrowed her eyes.

”The Palace Master has come out of closed-door cultivation!” The Third Elder also felt this presence and exclaimed in surprise, ”This... Has the Palace Master’s power become so strong?!” The Third Elder could sense that their Palace Master had made a significant breakthrough!

”Great Uncle-Master! Please stay your hand!”

The voice rang out again as a figure flew over from the distance.

Looking at the stern-faced, middle-aged man in the dark long robe before her, Huo Mei snorted coldly. ”You really just abandoned the Wuji Immortal Palace during your closed-door cultivation, didn’t you.”

The man immediately looked guilty. ”Great Uncle-Master, the matter was so abrupt that I failed to make proper arrangements. This is all my fault!”

After speaking, the Palace Master walked slowly to Wu Chang and pulled him up from the ground. ”Great Uncle-Master, I know the Saint Heir has caused a great disaster, but killing him outright like this is... somewhat inappropriate.”

Huo Mei’s anger flared when she saw him defending Wu Chang. ”Hehe, how is it inappropriate? The reputation of our Wuji Immortal Palace has been completely ruined by this cur! His heart is wicked, plotting murder and trying to steal a woman! For someone with such a venomous mind, killing him is letting him off easy!”

The Palace Master frowned at Huo Mei’s fury.

Seeing the Palace Master speaking up for him, Wu Chang fell to his knees, wailing and begging desperately, ”Palace Master, Palace Master, I know I was wrong! It’s all my fault! Punish me however you wish, just please don’t kill me! Palace Master, you must plead my case with the Great Uncle-Master! I’m begging you!”

At this moment, Wu Chang had no other options. If someone could save him, he would agree to anything, even eating shit.

The Palace Master looked at Wu Chang’s pitiful state and couldn’t bear it. ”Great Uncle-Master, this boy... after all, I watched him grow up. For him to do such a thing is partly my fault as well. I failed to educate him properly!”

Hearing this, Huo Mei’s eyes flashed. ”Are you implying I should strike you down as well?”

”Great Uncle-Master, if that is your wish, you absolutely can! But please, I am asking you to spare Wu Chang’s life,” the Palace Master said with the utmost respect.

Wu Chang was overjoyed. Just as I thought! The Palace Master is still on my side! I don’t have to die after all! Once this is all over, I’ll make these people pay! And this Great Uncle-Master... she’s utterly disgusting! She doesn’t even treat me like a member of the Wuji Immortal Palace. If I get the chance, I hope she drops dead!

No one knew what Wu Chang was thinking.

Huo Mei said with a cold face, ”Since that’s the case, then you tell me, Palace Master. How should he be punished?”
