Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 689: Chapter 689: Turnaround Situation

”Grandmaster Ancestor Huomei, you truly are formidable! Just look at the situation now. Does Ye Qingchen even stand a chance of fighting back?” The Third Elder stood on the platform, happily gazing at the scene, as if their Wuji Immortal Palace’s Saint Heir had already become invincible. The Great Elder standing beside him wore the exact same expression.

”With Grandmaster Ancestor Huomei’s help, even if our Saint Heir is a bit dull, he can still defeat Ye Qingchen!”

Both were supremely confident. Only the Second Elder wore a worried expression.

”Oh no, Ye Qingchen, you can’t lose! I’ve wagered who knows how many treasures on you!”

Huomei glanced at their expressions and let out a cold snort. With his help, Wu Chang had indeed made tremendous progress. At the moment, it certainly looked like Ye Qingchen was no match for him. But Huomei refused to believe this was the extent of Ye Qingchen’s abilities.

These people... they’re celebrating far too early!

”Ah, Grandmaster Ancestor Huomei, what’s with that expression?” the Third Elder asked as he turned and saw Huomei’s faint, unreadable smile.

Huomei slowly rose to his feet. ”Third Elder, do you notice anything different about Wu Chang now?”

The Third Elder looked toward the stage in confusion. ”What’s different? Grandmaster Ancestor, what do you mean? Isn’t our Saint Heir just stronger than before?”

The Third Elder truly couldn’t figure it out. But if there was nothing amiss, Grandmaster Ancestor Huomei wouldn’t have asked such a question!

”Then let me ask you, how long can our Saint Heir typically fight?” Huomei inquired indifferently.

The Third Elder immediately replied with confidence, ”Grandmaster Ancestor, it’s no boast, but our Saint Heir can usually fight for four hours straight! Without any breaks!”

Huomei pointed toward the stage. ”Then why is it that after only an hour, I can feel he’s already used up most of his Energy?”

As soon as Huomei said this, the three elders all snapped their gazes back to the stage.

”No way! What’s happening? This can’t be right! This should be the period when the Saint Heir is at his strongest!” The Third Elder could sense that the Energy within Wu Chang’s body was rapidly draining away.

”Grandmaster Ancestor Huomei, didn’t you say your method had no side effects?!” the Great Elder exclaimed, turning to look at Huomei in disbelief as a terrible thought occurred to him.

Huomei waved his hand dismissively. ”You call this a side effect?”

His matter-of-fact tone almost made them cough up blood in frustration.

”Hah, look how worked up you all are! If his foundation were solid, there would never be such a strong side effect. At most, his fighting time would be slightly shorter than usual. But now, it’s clear his fundamentals are incredibly weak!” Huomei’s tone was thick with disdain. ”Great Elder, I’d like to ask you, who exactly was supervising the Saint Heir when he was learning his Cultivation Technique?”

The Great Elder instantly broke out in a cold sweat. ”Grandmaster Ancestor, it... it was I who oversaw the Saint Heir’s training back then.”

The matter of his fundamentals was indeed my responsibility all those years ago. So many years have passed, yet the Grandmaster Ancestor is bringing it up now! If Wu Chang really loses this time, judging by the Grandmaster Ancestor’s attitude, he has no intention of letting me off the hook!

Having realized this, the Great Elder wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. ”Grandmaster Ancestor, the match is only halfway through. It’s still uncertain who will win or lose!”

Though the Great Elder said this, his confidence was rapidly evaporating. How could we not feel the change coming over Wu Chang in the arena?

Huomei settled back into his seat. ”Great Elder, you’re right. The outcome is still uncertain. Let’s hope that, in the end, it will be favorable for Wuji Immortal Palace.”

Their conversation ended, and they refocused their attention on the match.

At that moment, Wu Chang had yet to realize the severity of the situation. Watching Ye Qingchen being forced back, his face was overflowing with smug satisfaction.

”Ye Qingchen, aren’t you supposed to be so tough? Keep it up! Didn’t you want to kill me? Go on, then! I’m standing right here, come and kill me!”

Ye Qingchen snorted coldly, ignoring Wu Chang completely. Seeing Ye Qingchen’s lack of response, the smugness in Wu Chang’s eyes intensified. He took a step toward Ye Qingchen, his hands forming seals once more.

Endless waves of water surged toward Ye Qingchen.

Ye Qingchen saw the waves, his brow furrowing slightly. Water Element attacks were even more overbearing than those of other elements. The element’s forte was mastery over water itself; if he was so much as touched by these waves, his entire body could be injured.

He glanced around, noticing that the Water Element was growing denser. The water had already submerged his ankles. He was trapped. If he were delayed by even another second, not even an immortal could leave this place alive.

”Ye Qingchen, how about it? Scared now? HAHA...” Wu Chang roared, looking at Ye Qingchen with wild arrogance.

Ye Qingchen looked at the water, his eyes flashing. Suddenly, sprouts of Teng Man erupted from the depths.

”Wu Chang, haven’t you noticed that the Energy in your body is nearly gone?” Ye Qingchen asked with a slight smile.

In the next second, the Teng Man beneath the water grew rapidly, and the Water Element surrounding Ye Qingchen began to dwindle.

Wu Chang was about to scoff when he saw that the water he had conjured around Ye Qingchen was vanishing.

”Damn it! You wretched bastard, you’re using the Teng Man to absorb my Energy!” Wu Chang’s eyes widened in disbelief.

How could he not have felt his Energy draining away? The only reason he hadn’t cared was his confidence that he could kill Ye Qingchen long before his own reserves were depleted. But now, everything he knew was being overturned. How could Ye Qingchen’s wood element possibly absorb the Energy of his Water Element?

While he was stunned, Ye Qingchen finished the absorption. Now, a massive Teng Man soared and thrashed, an incredibly sinister sight.

”Wu Chang, you still don’t recognize the reality of your situation!” Ye Qingchen declared, stepping forward confidently. The massive Teng Man mirrored his advance. The next second, countless tendrils of the Teng Man enshrouded Wu Chang.

”Damn it! Ye Qingchen, what kind of sorcery is this? Stop it! STOP!” Wu Chang yelled, his eyes filled with raw terror.

He had planned to use another technique to obliterate Ye Qingchen, but now he was ensnared by the vines, completely unable to use any of his skills.

Ye Qingchen ignored Wu Chang’s pleas and continued his steady approach.

Wu Chang watched helplessly as Ye Qingchen drew closer and closer. Just as he was about to reach him, Wu Chang let out a great shout.

”Get away from me!”

He shoved at Ye Qingchen with all his might, but his power couldn’t budge him in the slightest.

Right! It’s these Teng Man! It’s all because of these cursed Teng Man!

Wu Chang roared with all his might, but his energy was nearly exhausted. He reached out, gathering every last bit of Water Element to try and break through the Teng Man.

However, it was all in vain.

The situation on the stage had reversed in an instant, and the entire crowd below was too stunned to react.

”Huh? Are my eyes deceiving me? Our Saint Heir... he can’t move?”

”No way! It can’t be! That’s impossible!”
