Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 691: Chapter 691 Lacking Some Medicinal Herbs

The Third Elder’s anger surged within him. ”Saint Heir! I was helping you with this! And now you won’t even say a word in my defense. You are truly, truly unworthy of being the Saint Heir!”

The Third Elder was thoroughly infuriated.

Upon hearing this, Wu Chang cautiously glanced at Huo Mei before shouting, ”Third Elder, did I ask for your help? This was all your own doing! What does it have to do with me!”

Wu Chang’s words were utterly ungrateful. Even the Great Elder and the Second Elder couldn’t stand to listen anymore.

”Now, Wu Chang, the Third Elder has put in a great deal of effort, even if he hasn’t earned merit. Isn’t it inappropriate for you to speak like this?” the Second Elder couldn’t help but stand up for the Third Elder.

Yet Wu Chang responded without a change in his expression, ”Second Elder, taking the Soul Lamp was his idea from the start! It had nothing to do with me! I admit I got involved later, but I wasn’t the one who instigated him in the beginning!”

Huo Mei couldn’t help but roll his eyes at Wu Chang’s brazen words. He never expected the Saint Heir of the Wuji Immortal Palace would turn out like this! Setting aside his realm and strength, his character alone made him unfit for the role.

Huo Mei opened his mouth to speak but stopped himself. The Palace Master still hasn’t come out of retreat. When he does, I’ll have to have a serious talk with him about the Saint Heir. Otherwise, the Wuji Immortal Palace will eventually fall into the hands of someone like this!

”Enough. There’s nothing more to be said at this point,” Huo Mei announced the verdict nonchalantly. ”Third Elder, you are relieved of your duties. The Great Elder and the Second Elder will face the wall and reflect. As for Wu Chang, you will be confined to your own palace for six months of arduous cultivation!”

The men hung their heads, not daring to object.

Wu Chang returned to his grand palace. Looking up at the sky outside, he couldn’t help but snort coldly. ”Damn it! That damned Ye Qingchen! Not only have I lost an immense amount of face, but now I can’t even see Xiao Xiao!”

In his rage, Wu Chang violently threw the cup in his hand.

Seeing this, a servant hurried forward to console him. ”Now, Saint Heir, Grandmaster-Uncle must have his reasons for doing this!”

However, Wu Chang burst into mocking laughter. ”What kind of bullshit is that? He has his reasons? I think he never intended to help me at all! He knew the Secret Technique had side effects, yet he didn’t tell me! Besides, if he truly wanted me to win, he could have secretly assisted me without anyone noticing, but he didn’t! This matter concerned the dignity of the Wuji Immortal Palace, yet he just stood by and watched. I don’t think he takes our Wuji Immortal Palace seriously at all!”

Startled by the tirade, the servant rushed forward and covered Wu Chang’s mouth. ”Saint Heir, be careful what you say! With Grandmaster-Uncle’s strength, why would he ever need to deceive you?”

The servant was utterly speechless. The Saint Heir wasn’t looking for fault in himself but was blaming his Grandmaster-Uncle instead. If their Grandmaster-Uncle heard this, the punishment would surely be more than just confinement and arduous cultivation.

After calming down, Wu Chang realized he had misspoken. But, unconcerned, he waved his hand dismissively. ”So what if I blame him? It’s the truth! For now, I can only watch Ye Qingchen strut around the Wuji Immortal Palace with pride. Even after he leaves, I’ll be a laughingstock among the disciples!”

Wu Chang’s fury didn’t subside; it grew even more intense.

”Oh, right! Saint Heir, I heard recently that the Jiang Ancient Clan’s Holy Son is outside our Wuji Immortal Palace,” the servant suddenly mentioned.

Wu Chang snorted coldly. ”What is he here for— Wait, who did you say is outside our Wuji Immortal Palace?”

The servant replied earnestly, ”The Jiang Ancient Clan’s Holy Son! He hasn’t come in, though. I originally thought you had invited him!”

Wu Chang’s eyes widened as his mind raced. Jiang Qi, the Jiang Ancient Clan’s Holy Son. If I remember correctly, Jiang Qi had a huge conflict with Ye Qingchen last time! That means Jiang Qi is also Ye Qingchen’s enemy! The enemy of my enemy is my friend! I can go find Jiang Qi right now! I, Wu Chang, may not have the power to deal with Ye Qingchen, but Jiang Qi does! Didn’t they say last time that Ye Qingchen couldn’t defeat Jiang Qi and was ultimately rescued by someone?

”Hahaha! Heaven is on my side! Truly, heaven is on my side! I refuse to believe I can’t get Ye Qingchen killed!”

Laughing, Wu Chang headed for the exit of the grand hall.

The servant hurriedly followed. ”Saint Heir, Saint Heir, where are you going? Aren’t you grounded?”

However, the only response he received was the sight of Wu Chang’s disappearing back.

「Elsewhere...」

Not long after Ye Qingchen returned, Elder Chen suddenly appeared in his courtyard.

”Who’s there!”

Before she could even get a clear look at the person, Xiao Xiao shot up in agitation.

”Ahem. Xiao Xiao, it’s Elder Chen. You don’t need to be so vigilant.” Ye Qingchen quickly restrained Xiao Xiao’s body, which was about to erupt with power.

Only after being soothed by Ye Qingchen’s words did she come back to her senses.

”Young... Young Master, I’m sorry. I just have this feeling that someone might come to harm you here, so I got a bit tense.” Xiao Xiao didn’t know why, but lately, she always felt on the verge of losing control. It was probably due to the Wuji Immortal Palace.

Elder Chen observed Xiao Xiao with an inexplicable sense of unease. Remembering the purpose of his visit, however, he quickly pulled Ye Qingchen aside. ”Well, Ye Qingchen, it’s good that she’s vigilant. I had planned to spend the next three days refining your elixir, but I’ve run into a problem. I’m short on some of the medicinal herbs I prepared.”

Elder Chen rubbed his hands awkwardly. He could have sworn he still had some of those herbs left. He wasn’t sure if it was because it had been too long since he last used them or what, but when he went to get them today, a large amount was missing!

Ye Qingchen asked, ”Elder Chen, what exactly are you short on?”

”Nothing too special, just some of the Wuji Immortal Palace’s natural treasures. However, finding them will take quite a bit of effort!”

Elder Chen was truly at his wit’s end. The elixir was at its most crucial step! He had already sent people to other parts of the Wuji Immortal Palace to search for the herbs, but it would take them at least a week to return. Such a long delay would mean all his work on the elixir would be wasted. Most importantly, it would affect Ye Qingchen’s condition!

Seeing Elder Chen’s anxious expression, Ye Qingchen mysteriously produced two bags from somewhere.

”Elder Chen, see if there’s anything you need in here.”

Curiously, Elder Chen opened the bags. His eyes widened in shock when he saw the contents!

”Hahaha! Fantastic! Wonderful! Many of these are exactly what I need! This is enough, more than enough! Where did you get so many of the Wuji Immortal Palace’s natural treasures?”

Seeing the pressing issue resolved, Elder Chen felt a great wave of relief.
