Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 676: Chapter 676: Time to Fight

”Saint Heir! Saint Heir! Something terrible has happened!”

Inside the Holy Son’s Palace, the servant Wu Chang had left behind came running back, tripping and stumbling.

Wu Chang frowned. ”Didn’t I tell you to bring Hedgehog Head over? Why don’t I see him?”

Wu Chang hadn’t realized what had happened and was still annoyed at the servant’s rashness.

The servant wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. ”Saint Heir, it’s not that! Hedgehog Head... he and his men were defeated by Ye Qingchen!”

Upon hearing this, Wu Chang lurched up from his chair. ”What did you say? Hedgehog Head and his group were defeated? How is that possible! You must be lying to me!”

Everything had been going smoothly when he left. He had just gotten back, and now he was being told they were defeated? Are they playing with me?!

”Saint Heir, I wouldn’t dare lie to you about something like this! You don’t know, but the Third Elder went as well in the end. But even with him there, that Ye Qingchen fellow is still alive and well!”

The servant felt a chill as he recalled the scene he had witnessed. He had never seen a foreigner with such incredible strength. Perhaps only our Saint Heir can contend with him!

After calming down, Wu Chang listened quietly to the servant’s account. ”How could he possibly be that powerful?” Wu Chang muttered to himself. ”With the Third Elder’s strength... it shouldn’t have been possible!”

The servant continued, ”Oh, right. In the end, Elder Chen arrived and stopped the conflict. But rest assured, Saint Heir, they didn’t reveal your involvement.”

Wu Chang nodded. ”Heh, in that case, it seems not many people in the Wuji Immortal Palace can handle him,” he said. ”By the way, how long is that guy staying here?”

”Saint Heir, I’ve already inquired about that for you,” the servant replied without hesitation. ”They will be here for at least half a month. You’ll have plenty of time to make your move.”

Wu Chang stood up thoughtfully and paced with his hands clasped behind his back. ”If I remember correctly, the Wuji Immortal Palace’s arena tournament is in three days.”

The servant nodded quickly. ”Yes, Saint Heir. Everyone from the Wuji Immortal Palace will be there to watch the tournament. But... last time, didn’t you say it wasn’t interesting enough to watch?”

Wu Chang couldn’t help but roll his eyes. ”That tournament *wasn’t* interesting, but things are different now! I can use this opportunity to issue a formal challenge to that Ye Qingchen fellow! Aren’t the rules of the arena that once a challenge is issued, the person challenged must appear?”

The servant scratched his head, thinking for a moment before saying slowly, ”But, Saint Heir, that rule only applies to people from our Wuji Immortal Palace. Ye Qingchen is just a foreigner. What if he doesn’t show up?”

It seems our Saint Heir will have to take matters into his own hands. If that Ye Qingchen dares to show up, he’ll be utterly defeated. Then, with the entire Wuji Immortal Palace watching, he will become the laughingstock of this place.

Wu Chang seemed to have realized this problem as well, but a slight smile touched the corners of his lips as he said slowly, ”So what if he’s a foreigner? If I go directly to Elder Chen about this, he definitely won’t interfere. Forced by the pressure, that guy will have no choice but to accept my challenge!”

The servant immediately fawned, ”You are brilliant, Saint Heir! As long as he dares to come, we’ll make sure he never leaves!”

It was well known that the arena tournament was different from an ordinary match. Once on the stage, life and death were out of one’s own hands, as the Wuji Immortal Palace wouldn’t care if those who entered the arena lived or died. That was why not many people signed up each year, and why Wu Chang usually found it so uninteresting.

”Right,” Wu Chang ordered. ”Spread this news. Make sure everyone in the Wuji Immortal Palace hears about it!”

The servant scurried off to do his bidding.

「Meanwhile.」

Ye Qingchen followed Elder Chen back. Seeing his state, Elder Chen immediately took out an Elixir and stuffed it into Ye Qingchen’s mouth.

”My goodness, I’ve only been gone for two days, and you’ve already gotten into trouble with the Third Elder?” Elder Chen asked, curiously watching Ye Qingchen’s reaction.

Ye Qingchen swallowed the Elixir. ”Elder Chen, you’ve really got me wrong,” he said helplessly. ”You have no idea. Those people came looking for trouble right in my room!”

Elder Chen sighed. ”Ah, I know. The Saint Heir has it in for you, and I’m afraid this whole incident was his doing. However, lad, I’ve watched the Saint Heir grow up since he was a boy, and I know his temperament all too well. Since he couldn’t get the better of you this time, he absolutely won’t let this go. You must be careful.”

Ye Qingchen nodded silently. He had originally thought Elder Chen would side with the Saint Heir, but to his surprise, the man still had some conscience.

”This matter is also my fault,” Elder Chen continued. ”But Wu Chang is the Saint Heir of the Wuji Immortal Palace, after all, and I’m just an alchemist. I can’t do much to him. However, if you’re hurt or need my help, I certainly won’t be stingy.”

Elder Chen’s words greatly improved Ye Qingchen’s impression of him.

”Don’t worry, Elder Chen,” Ye Qingchen said with a grateful smile.

”By the way,” Elder Chen added, ”that Elixir I just gave you is something I’ve been refining for the past two days. It can dissolve some of the Corpse Refining Technique in your body, but it also has some side effects.”

Elder Chen stroked his chin with a serious expression.

Puzzled, Ye Qingchen inspected his own body but found nothing amiss.

”You naturally wouldn’t feel anything wrong. That’s because the Elixir’s effects haven’t kicked in yet. Once they do, you’ll have to exert yourself to the fullest just to feel a bit better.”

Elder Chen’s ambiguous words left Ye Qingchen confused. ”’Exert myself to the fullest?’ Elder Chen, what do you mean by that?”

Elder Chen explained, ”Simply put, it means you need to fight someone and vigorously use the Energy in your body. However, this can’t be an ordinary fight. You must find someone of equal or greater strength than yourself. Otherwise, you won’t be able to release the Energy inside you.”

”Ye Qingchen, I know your strength is extraordinary. An ordinary person in the Wuji Immortal Palace is no match for you,” Elder Chen said meaningfully.

His meaningful words made Ye Qingchen smile. ”I understand, Elder Chen. In fact, I already have someone in mind.”

If that’s the case, why not seek out the Saint Heir, Wu Chang? After all, that guy can’t stand the sight of me and is quite powerful. He’d make a perfect sparring partner! But... how should I go about starting a fight with him?

”Ye Qingchen, you’ll have to figure that out on your own. I’m going back to refine the next Elixir you’ll need.”

After a few more words of instruction, Elder Chen turned and walked away.

As Ye Qingchen walked, he pondered his next move.

”Young Master, Young Master! You’re finally back!” Xiao Xiao ran over excitedly as soon as Ye Qingchen returned to his room. ”I saw something was wrong over at the banquet, so I rushed to find Elder Chen!”
