Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 664: Chapter 664 Misty Forest

The small boat traveled for some distance, and soon, the place they came from was out of sight.

”Ahem, Ye Qingchen, I seem to have mentioned earlier that it’s possible for some minor accidents to occur in this stage,” Wu Chang said smugly, giving Ye Qingchen a preemptive warning.

Ye Qingchen smiled and replied in kind, ”Indeed, Saint Heir. It is possible for minor accidents to happen in this stage.”

”You’d best be careful, Saint Heir! You may know this place like the back of your hand, but as the saying goes, ’walk by the river long enough, and your shoes are bound to get wet.’”

Wu Chang clearly didn’t understand what Ye Qingchen meant, still wearing the same smug look of a petty man who had gotten his way.

Beneath the calm surface of the sea, dense swarms of Monster Beasts gathered beneath their boat.

Hiss... ”Elder, are we really going to attack the person up there?” an ugly-looking Monster Beast asked, swimming up to a massive one at the front.

The massive Monster Beast grunted. ”Of course! The Saint Heir specifically instructed us. Although the Saint Heir is on the boat, he has already made preparations. You lot don’t need to worry about accidentally injuring him.”

The ugly-looking Monster Beast scratched its head, still confused. ”But, Elder, why do I feel like our target is Saint Heir Wu Chang?”

The large Monster Beast squinted its small eyes, peering up carefully through the dim sea. Wu Chang and Ye Qingchen had similar builds and wore clothes of the same color. In the blurry view, it was impossible to tell them apart.

”Tsk! Are you stupid? The Saint Heir specifically left us that guy’s aura! How could we possibly attack the wrong person!” The large Monster Beast shifted its body impatiently. ”Alright, that’s enough. There’s absolutely no way we can mess this up. The person we’re aiming for is the one the Saint Heir despises.”

”When I count down from three, we’ll all attack together!”

The rest of the smaller Monster Beasts had no objections and aimed their weapons at the small boat above.

”Three, two, one... Go!”

As soon as the command was given, countless hideous Monster Beasts burst from the sea. In an instant, Ye Qingchen’s small boat rocked violently, like a leaf tossed on the waves.

The Saint Heir watched this unfold with a smile, silently activating the defensive shield he had prepared in advance.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

However, his joy was short-lived, as he saw an overwhelming wave of Monster Beasts diving down toward him.

”Oh my! Saint Heir! What’s happening? These Monster Beasts... they seem to be attacking you specifically!” Ye Qingchen exclaimed, feigning surprise.

Wu Chang’s face instantly darkened. Before he could say anything, the Monster Beasts were already upon him, forcing him to hastily strengthen his defenses.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Because Wu Chang had given the order himself, these Monster Beasts were now charging him with all their might. Wielding spears and greatswords, they stabbed fiercely at his defensive shield.

In less than two minutes, Wu Chang’s shield was already covered in a spiderweb of cracks. He had been so certain the Monster Beasts would only target Ye Qingchen that he hadn’t taken his own defense seriously. He had only prepared a small shield to keep the sea spray off himself, so he was completely unable to react in time.

Soon, the Monster Beasts broke through his defense, and one after another, their attacks slammed into Wu Chang.

”Argh! Ah!” Wu Chang gritted his teeth and dodged with all his might.

Hearing the commotion, Xiao Xiao and Elder Yang, who were in the boat ahead, looked back in confusion. They saw Wu Chang screaming as he dodged the Monster Beasts’ attacks.

”Elder Yang, what’s going on? Are the Monster Beasts of the Wuji Immortal Palace attacking their own Saint Heir?” Xiao Xiao asked, completely baffled.

Still, thank goodness they aren’t attacking my Young Master. Otherwise, I would be panicking right now.

Elder Yang seemed to have figured out what was happening. He just shook his head without a word. ”Let’s go on ahead,” he said. ”They’ll probably be delayed for a while.”

With that, Elder Yang’s small boat sped up.

RUMBLE! RUMBLE!

The Monster Beasts’ assault continued for a full half-hour. Although Wu Chang had reached the Martial Emperor Realm, he couldn’t withstand the relentless attacks of so many Monster Beasts, and he was injured in several places. While the wounds looked serious, they hadn’t actually caused any major damage.

These were, after all, the Monster Beasts with the lowest cultivation from the seabed. If they had been the ones from the deepest trenches, Wu Chang would probably be dead by now.

”Damn it! These creatures!” Wu Chang gasped, clutching his wound as he sat on the boat.

Ye Qingchen, who had watched the whole show, feigned concern. ”Saint Heir, are you alright? But aren’t these the Monster Beasts from your Wuji Immortal Palace? Maybe they haven’t seen you in a long time and just wanted to play around a little.”

The sight of Ye Qingchen’s smile was particularly grating to Wu Chang. ”You have the nerve to smile! These Monster Beasts were supposed to deal with...” In his anger, Wu Chang almost blurted out his entire plan.

”Oh? Deal with whom?” Ye Qingchen’s eyes widened with curiosity.

”Hmph! This was just a mishap. Let’s see how long you can stay so pleased with yourself!” Unable to contain his rage, Wu Chang could only curse inwardly.

”Saint Heir, if you’re alright, we should get a move on. Xiao Xiao and the others have probably reached the other side by now,” Ye Qingchen said, turning around, unable to suppress the smile on his face.

On the opposite shore, Xiao Xiao and Elder Yang had been waiting for some time. When she saw Ye Qingchen get off the boat, Xiao Xiao hurried over. ”Young Master! Young Master! I saw things crawling out of the sea just now! Are you alright?”

She approached Ye Qingchen with concern, not sparing Wu Chang a single glance.

Clutching his wound, Wu Chang felt his resentment fester. ”Little Girl Xiaoxiao, with me here, you have nothing to fear!” he declared, forcing himself to appear suave and composed.

But Xiao Xiao looked at him with disgust. ”Um, Saint Heir Wu Chang, maybe you should wipe that blood off yourself first?”

”That’s enough. Let’s not waste any more time here,” Elder Yang interjected. The group continued on their way.

「The Second Stage: The Misty Forest」

This forest required an expert guide; without one, it would be very difficult to navigate. Furthermore, it was filled with numerous poisonous Monster Beasts and plants, all of which were extremely deadly.

”Ahem, everyone stick close to me once we’re inside,” Wu Chang said, casting a sidelong glance at Ye Qingchen. ”The things in here don’t play favorites. If you don’t keep up and accidentally get hurt, I won’t be held responsible.”

The incident at sea was a pure accident. For some reason, those creatures suddenly lost control. He’d settle the score with them when this is all over. But this stage is different! This one contains not only Monster Beasts but also extremely vicious plants! As the Saint Heir, he can control these plants with ease, and Xiao Xiao and the others will never notice. It’s the perfect crime scene!

Having made up his mind, Wu Chang strode to the front of the group.

Seeing the ill intent in Wu Chang’s eyes, Ye Qingchen naturally knew what the man was planning and silently raised his guard.
