I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 329: Chapter 219: The Nouveau Riche Fish with a Gold Brick

He woke up just after eleven in the morning. At twenty-five years old, he could pull an all-nighter and recover by sleeping in for a morning—and that was without mentioning the game-like cheat he possessed, which made his recovery even faster.

He washed his face, brushed his teeth, and headed to the shop, full of energy and with the gold bar in tow.

Yi Chen was just starting to prepare lunch, so when she saw him arrive, she decided to make a little extra.

”Chenchen, come, come! I want to show you my big baby!” Gu Nan said, about to pull out the gold bar.

Yi Chen’s face turned red, and she chided, ”Who wants to see your ’big baby’ in broad daylight? You know perfectly well I’m on my period.”

Gu Nan froze, a look of exasperation on his face. ”I wasn’t talking about the ’big baby’ you’re thinking of. Where did your mind even go?”

With that, he pulled the gold bar out from his clothes.

Yi Chen had been feeling embarrassed and annoyed at her misunderstanding, but the moment she saw the gleaming gold bar, she gasped and covered her mouth with her hand.

Her eyes went wide as she looked back and forth between Gu Nan and the gold bar, an expression of utter disbelief on her face.

”Where did you get this?”

”You probably won’t believe me, but I went for a little dive last night and happened to find this huge gold bar in the crevice of a reef.”

Gu Nan had already prepared this story before he arrived. Yi Chen knew about their fishing boat debt, and since he wanted to use the gold bar to offset part of it, he naturally had to tell her.

’If he hadn’t pulled the gold bar from the mouth of a king salmon, he wouldn’t have even needed to invent an excuse.’

Besides, the surface of the gold bar did indeed have traces of algae and coral that Gu Nan couldn’t have removed with a simple wash, so Yi Chen didn’t doubt his story.

She drew in a sharp breath. ”Shouldn’t we... turn this in?” She was surprised Gu Nan had been so lucky, but then another thought made her frown.

”Are you crazy? Turn it in for what? A certificate of commendation and five hundred yuan? Just so some official can line their own pockets with this gold bar?” Gu Nan retorted, poking the silly girl on the forehead.

’If he had found an ancient shipwreck or something similar in the country’s territorial waters, he would have reported it.’

’But this gold bar was a lucky find from the game. Why the hell should he turn it in?’

’Even if he had found a bar like this in the real world, he would have secretly found a way to dispose of it.’

’A small find like this could be handled privately without any problems. A larger one would be more than a single person could manage. Gu Nan naturally understood the difference.’

Yi Chen gave a silly giggle. She was just talking; if they actually turned it in, she was sure the regret would keep her up for days.

”So, are you planning to keep it or sell it?”

”I’m thinking of contacting Brother Wang. If it’s possible, I want to use this gold bar to directly pay off part of our debt for the fishing boat.”

’Selling it on the open market was out of the question. Besides the risk, he probably wouldn’t even get a good price for it.’

’If he gave the gold bar directly to the shipyard owner to settle the debt, the owner might even value it generously.’

’It was perfectly normal for rich people like them to keep some gold on hand.’

’The main reason for asking Wang Junhe was to use his connections to get the bar’s quality and price appraised. That way, he’d have a better idea of what it was worth.’

Yi Chen nodded, fully agreeing with his plan.

The debt was like a mountain pressing down on them. For ordinary people, gold itself wasn’t very useful; only when it was spent did it have real value.

After lunch, Gu Nan learned that Wang Junhe was at his club, so he decided to take Yi Chen and head over.

He gave the gold bar directly to Wang Junhe, who said he would have a professional appraise it.

Wang Junhe wasn’t overly impressed by the gold bar itself; he just thought Gu Nan was incredibly lucky.

”Brother Wang, the surprise will arrive tomorrow evening or the day after tomorrow at noon. I’ll have it delivered to the club and let you know.”

”Great! I’ve been talking about this surprise for two days. It’s finally almost here.”

Wang Junhe nodded happily. Then, remembering that Gu Nan had asked him about fishing spots for large yellow croaker, he added, ”Oh, right. When are you planning to go fishing for large yellow croaker? Let me know in advance so we can go together.”

”How about the day after tomorrow? We should sort out the gold bar first, and you probably won’t be free right after you get your surprise. The day after tomorrow should work,” Gu Nan said after a moment of thought.

’He was happy to have more people along to fish for large yellow croaker. Going out to sea alone was too boring; it was much better with company.’

After they agreed on a time, Gu Nan and Yi Chen went to the pool to practice spearfishing. He was mostly just accompanying his girlfriend, as his own marksmanship didn’t need any more practice. What he needed now was constant, real-world experience.
